Anyone Remember Morton Downey Jr?

No, not the guy who plays Iron Guy but the talk show host from the 80s.

He was considered one of the first conservative talk hosts and predates Rush Limbaugh.

They even named a Super Mario enemy from him.

His show was really and he yelled a lot and was known for his "big mouth".

He had a role as a sleazy journalist or talk host in Predator 2 as well.

My dad loved him back in the day and we sat around and watched him.

Gonna tag my irl friend MetalAlien MetalAlien again because I think me and him talked about him before.

Even if you hate Republicans or conservatives, this should wax nostalgia for you.

I remember Rowdy Roddy Piper blasting the guy with a fire extinguisher. That is my only memory or the man.
Yeah I imagine a lot of the Younglings here won't remember him. He was a product of the 80s.

This was one of my dad's favorite shows at the time along with Married With Children.

Is he the one who goes on wacky adventures with his grandfather Rick?

I think i vaguely heard his name somewhere, but he seems to be before my time.
Yeah it was an 80s thing.

He's considered by some as the father of conservative talk. Rush Limbaugh pretty much popularized it but Morty sort of kick started it, I guess you could say.

I think Morton Downey Jr even had a radio show in which Limbaugh replaced him.

You'll probably find a bunch of Youtube videos. Just search for 'morton downey jr show' and check some out.

He even had a whole show with those Krofft puppets.

This is way before my time, but MDJ had a predecessor with a talk show in the 1970s. I can't remember the host's name. I watched a Youtube video of the show, and the audience was screaming at everything the guest said, like a riot was going to break out. MDJ's show or at least audience was well-mannered in comparison

This is way before my time, but MDJ had a protege with a talk show in the 1970s. I can't remember the host's name. I watched a Youtube video of the show, and the audience was screaming at everything the guest said, like a riot was going to break out. MDJ's show or at least audience was well-mannered in comparison
Was it maybe like, I dunno, Joe Pyne or someone else?

I didn't get to see a lot of the show, but I do remember it quite well. Loved watching his part on Pipers Pit at wrestle mania 5 live and all.

I remember him vividly, especially his loudmouth and smoking all the time. Without looking it up, I wanna say his show was on circa 1988-90 around 11:00 pm.

This shows my age. Morton smoked like a chimney and some epic battles against Stern. You definitely knew the dude was going to get cancer due to all the smoking.
RIP

Dating myself here, but yes, I remember watching the stow. I remember him more for appearing and being mentioned on the Howard Stern show, and even got into a fight with Stuttering John. Quite a character, he was.
