I've just rewatched 2001 A Space Odissey.
This is such a master piece of a film. Unbelievable photography and music. A 60 year old scifi film that aged incredibly well.
Kubrick was really ahead of it's time. Can't imagine people in the 60s go to the movies and watch this.
Unfortunately I never had the chance to watch it on a cinema in a big screen with top notch sound...

Saw someone mention Contact in the thread about Interstellar and decided to give it a go. Absolutely loved it.
I'm shocked you have not seen it all this time. One of my favourite movies of all time. Would like to see more movies focus on space, alien life and our place in the universe but more realisitc take on the topic.
Another one you can try if you haven't already seen it is 'Arrival' starring Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner. The score and cinematography in this one is top drawer stuff.

Since the movie is currently free on Amazon Prime and has reasonably good reviews, I thought I'd check it out.
What I expected was primarily a drama with a bit of mysticism thrown in.
What I got was an absolutely captivating mystery film with elements of horror and drama.
What pleased me the most was that the basic idea was innovative and, as far as I know, has never appeared in this form in any other film yet.
Since the movie is currently free on Amazon Prime and has reasonably good reviews, I thought I'd check it out.

Makoto Shinkai makes some really gorgeous movies.
They're all basically the same movie, but they're gorgeous nontheless.

Just watched Bloody Hell a few days ago and was fantastic. Came out last year I believe. Best movie I've seen in a long while.

Watched the menu - i enjoyed it. Something different. Didnt love how unrealistic it was, but it was still okay.

I watched Rituals (1980s movie similar to Deliverance) and Nomadland. I wouldn't particular recommend either of them but they are ok to have playing in the background.

One of Peter Jacksons earlier movies, part of his infamous trilogy of splatter comedies, consisting of this movie, Bad Taste and Braindead (Dead Alive for you US citizens). Meet the Feebles is probably one of the weirdest and fucked up movie I've ever seen. It's a parody of the Muppets, and it's about as nasty as it gets. Whatever Jackson smoked during this production, pass me that good shit. There isn't a single normal character in this movie. A few examples of the cast is a dirty rodent shooting bdsm porn, a walrus cheating on his girlfriend with a cat, a panty sniffing anteater and a shit eating fly working as a paparazzi. It's just so bizarre and it's even more bizarre that the director of such schlock goes on to direct the Lord of the Rings to great acclaim.

Heavenly Creatures is probably one of his movies that has aged the best, considering it's not that heavy on effects like most of his other features. It relies more on the characters and the strong script. Very good movie.

Did anyone know there is a film called Prey on Netflix? Thinking this was somehow the Predator one, I watched it, the penny dropping about 10 minutes into it. Did end up watching the intended one. I like how Midthunder (what a name) has got street smarts but the ignorance of her tribe seemed a bit too moronic. A giant footprint and nobody bats an eyelid?! Great scenery but some of the shots looked like on a set i.e. couldn't see even one (non CGI) bug or that detritus of an actual forest, or the original for that matter. Did everyone else anticipate the magic phrase haha. Some nice throwbacks to the original and the gun was a nice touch - I mean it felt like it actually made sense to be there. Makes you wonder how the Predator gets it back though... I can also see Billy being a descendant of her Midthunder. Overall thought it was captivating watching how a culture with primitive weapons is going to take down a trained killer.

If you're looking for a great movie, there was a foreign film made in France in the 90's. It's a very dark comedy. It's called Man Bites Dog. It's about a film crew making a documentary on a psychopath/sociopath, who they film and follow. It's amazing.

I saw it a while back. A short doc about kids doing Rubik's cube. It's probably no more than an hour long. Very heartwarming story. It's more about the people than the actual puzzle.

Half of a good movie. Ana Taylor Joy is very charismatic, retro London is cool and it's beautifully rendered, until it isn't.
Totally failed by the script.
Oh brother. I shouldn't have watched this right after The Last Duel. All men in the film minus one—the harmless simp love interest—are cartoonish pervert creeps to the extreme. And the women are straight out of Mean Girls, except this is not a high school teen comedy. It's not entirely a dealbreaker in the first half, since it's full of fun and mesmerizing scenes intertwined between London time periods that carry it, and Ana Taylor Joy has a couple great moments with Matt Smith, but once it decides to be a #metoo horror film it falters under its tonal mismatch and facile storytelling. About an hour straight of the protagonist entering a scene and then running out of the room screaming hysterically, chased by misogynist ghosts. Evil men catcall the protagonist and her alter ego everywhere they go. Evil men approach her at bars and parties with pick up lines like, "my dick just died, can I bury it in your ass?"
It's clearly influenced by stylish horror classics like Suspiria, but comes nowhere near hitting that mark. It's not smart enough and the social commentary is cartoonish and one dimensional.
Then... The protagonist hugs the mass murdering psychopath lady who about 60 seconds ago attempted to murder both the protagonist and her useless boyfriend (who is on the floor in the next room bleeding out from a giant knife to the gut). I don't think even Naruto would offer up a hug in the middle of all that, standing on top of 100 corpses of murdered johns under the floorboards.The protagonist also leaves Terence Stamp to die without a care in the world, which is never followed up on. But it's okay since men are evil.
Still maybe worth a stream for Ana Taylor Joy's romps through London in the '60s. But could've been much more without the warped morality and hollow characterization.

I went to see Smoking Causes Coughing the other day. It's a really fun French absurdist comedy that's a spoof of Power Rangers/Tokusatsu and also turns into a horror anthology for a little bit.
Also, at an hour and twenty minutes it's not here to fuck about with your time.

We watched Best In Show again last night. Easily one of the best comedies of the 2000s. It's just one great scene after another. The cast is great too - Fred Willard, Eugene Levy, Catherine O'Hara, Parker Posey, Michael McKean.

I remember laughing during my first viewing then that laughter fading & switching to shock and sadness.
Definitely not for everyone but a great movie nonetheless.
