Anyone seen the "JOEY" show?

I saw a torrent of it last night, but I'm not sure if it has aired in America yet, so if I'm breaking a rule please lock, if not, how is it? I was going to write it off as total garbage destined to fail, but then I read a review that said apparently whichever network is running it ordered more than the standard number of episodes based on the pilot and it's apparently very funny.

Adriana from sopranos is meant to be funny and her boob job is apparently a running gag, the guy from road trip is also ment to be a good offset to Joeys "dumbness".
 
Pot-head from Road Trip is the only redeeming factor for Joey.

Otherwise, the show was pretty bland. The gentle humor was kind of comforting, though.
 
Although I haven't seen it yet (watch TV? it's practically an entertainment wasteland for me), I do know it aired last week. So no rule breaking here as far as I know.

If I get the chance maybe I'll download it.
 
I watched it last Thursday, and I actually enjoyed it, but the music they’re using in the show needs to go.

Joey needs to get hired as a regular on a show, and it should be some serious critical darling that makes Joey out to be some genius.
 
The neighbor from the pilot was so much hotter than the one they ended up actually using.

Yes.

It made me laugh. That's all I'm really after from a comedy.

Oh and is the opening title sequence supposed to be a parody of The Sopranos, because he's Italian-American and things? It's just the first thing I thought when I saw it, bar the music.
 
I actually kind of want it to do well.

I found Joey to be the funniest friend later in the series, him and Ross, because they didn't get all meaningful (well apart from the very end for ross) and their character oddities got quite amusing, Joeys dumbness and Ross' psychotic episodes were funny.

I hope it gets a couple of seasons at least.

Yeah i loved each one for what they were, Joey for his "airhead" nature, Ross for his humor through his misery and Chandler for being just a goof. Scary thing is I'm soooo like Ross it not even funny.

You might not like the show so much then, as I can see Joey getting all meaningful. Not that I've actually heard anything like that, but given that he was the one character in Friends who really didn't grow at all, I think giving him his own series is the chance for the writers to do that.

In fact he was probably the best character to get his own series from that group for that very reason. From the very first Friend's episode to the last (and all in between), he was the loveable stupid guy, who was a bad actor, a loyal friend and dated lots of women.
 
I liked the pilot very much. I thought it was a solid effort to spin off a character who was not that well used in Friends. I think the Exec Prod. from friends Kevin S. Bright is the exec prod on this show, as well as one of the writers. I think it has a chance as long as they introduce characters to counter-act Joey's aloofness.

Here is hoping it works.
 
Yeah, the pilot at least was written by Friends scribes.

The laughter track was annoying though. I hope it's just because it was a pilot and a re-recorded one at that. Better be an audience for the show generally.
 
I watched it last week and thought it was actually pretty good. And i never really did like Friends. Ill probably watch it if i remember but it doesnt seem like a show that i really dont want to miss.
 
It didn't have any laugh out loud moments like Friends yet. It was still pleasant to watch becuase of the familiar character. So far, only Gina stood out. The son and the neighbor were too vanilla. And speaking of vanilla, I hope they're not gonna whitewash LA also.
 
I don't get why they cut ashley out. She may not have played the part PERFECT, but she was shitloads better than the replacement. Plus she was hot and never wore a bra, fuck NBC.
 
People in their focus groups hated Ashely Scott.


It was better than I was expecting. But Survivor starts next week so I'll only get to see one more ep.

I'm assuming you are talking about some production pilot that never made it on the live TV? Now, that reminded me of some kind of pe-pilot episode of Buffy, that I once found on the internet, and that was soooo ridiculously silly looking and undeveloped compared to the 'actual' broadcast pilot. I remember that Willow in that pre-pilot was some fat ugly chick, and most other actors were completely different as well. If that pilot was made in hope to greenlight the show, I think Buffy fans should be happy that whoever was supposed to approve it, was drunk that day.
 
It isn't even a joke. The two actors are like 4 or 5 years apart in real life. It's retarded. This is the kind of TV that morons watch while great shows like Scrubs sit way back in the ratings.

So people who dont share your opinions are morons. Sorry, but it looks like you're the moron here. If people like Joey or Friends or whatever, so be it. Different people like different things.

Who cares what their ages are apart from each other. They get 20 something year olds to play teenagers all the time. Who cares. Its just a TV show. It doesnt matter. It doesnt look that bad, the girl who plays Joeys sister definatly has some age to her face and that kid still looks pretty young. I think its passable.


As for Joey, I kinda liek it. I think they're making him out to be smarter then he should be and then throw in a few boner lines just to keep a bit of the old Joey feel in there. I dunno, I like the show I guess. Ill wait untill after the first season to make a real judgement though.

The second episode had some good laughs, though the pacing was weird. Seemed to end before the episode was really resolved.

As for the ages, I don't see a problem. Drea can totally pass for 34 (a hot 34 I admit) which is what she would be as she had her son when 14, and I know 20 year olds who look like her son.

Drea's got some good comic timing, I'm impressed. You can never be sure how well it's going to work, bringing an actor who's been in such a serious role into a comedy, but she's good.
 
i watched like the first 10 minutes of last nights episode and it was filled with the same dumb, cliched type of jokes that sitcoms have been using for the last 20 years. The guy who plays Joey is a shitty actor too, i can't believe he was deemed likable enough to get his own spinoff. Its a shame people will probably eat this up while shows like Arrested Development that try something fresh for a change struggle to get ratings, but i guess the general public enjoys being fed the same old dumb plots over and over.

You do realize that they put whatever in her bra to make her breasts look bigger right? Her actual breast size is like a third of what they look like on the show.
 
It was pretty good last night, it will get better and it's ok now so i can't wait..plus cameos from the FRIENDS cast will be interesting and i can't wait.

Arrested Development is "fresh?" every time I watch that show I just it's Married with Children with more characters and a slightly better premise...

Joey is cool though- the writers don't seem to be holding onto the "teh drama" button all the time like they did on the latter parts of Friends, and the cast works well off of each other.

And Drea de Matteo is hot in a kind of burnt out homecoming queen kinda way

Hey, I love Arrested Development and Curb Your Enthusiasm and The Office and a hundred other fresh comedies, but that doesn't mean Joey isn't funny. You don't think it is, fine, but obviously lots of people do as you can see from comments in this thread. Do you think we're lying and refusing to see it's not funny or something?

As long as you can get people to watch the shows in the first place (something Arrested Development seems to have struggled with), comedies are one of the easiest things to judge. If people find it funny, they'll keep watching it. If people don't find it funny, they'll stop.

There are plenty of crap comedies out there that I won't watch, Joey isn't one of them.

As for Matt LeBlanc's acting ability, you're in the minority there as well. He's consistently outperformed the rest of the Friend's cast (male) when it comes to Emmy nominations and the like, and I remember reading reviews of Lost In Space from reputable critics who said the only redeeming feature of the film was Matt LeBlanc's performance. Now I'm not exactly a big fan of the Emmys, but that tends to be because they ignore shows completely. When you can actually get them to see a show, they do generally make the right choices in terms of the best actors.
 
Last night's episode was alot better than the first. It's like there's 2 Joey with a young Chandler. :lol except this Chandler is not funny.

i don't think that at all, like i said, people eat the stuff up, so SOME people are obviously watching and enjoying it, i just think for the most part, sitcoms are stale right now. Most shows just recycle the same old plot and story types that date all the way back to shows like Threes COmpany in the 70s. For the most part, you can watch the first 5 minutes of a sitcom these days (like i said, i've only watched like 5 minutes of Joey so im not really taking it into account) and be able to tell EXACTLY what is going to happen.

as for Matt LeBlanc, i guess its not neccesarily his acting, but more of how he plays the character of Joey (which i guess is a lot out of his control). Joey just seems so damn one dimensional and dull to me.
 
:lol Episode 5 was fantastic, its slowly been getting funnier and funnier and this one was a classic. Dont know if its the first one Schwimmer directed but i noticed his name was attached to it.
