Ok so I went and picked up RR:DS today, as the entire board knows. While I was there the manager showed me the new package info for the DS for the rest of the year. Anyone wnating a DS from an EB must purchase the following items:

An NDS w/ a service agreement

2 games w/ a service agreement on each game

a cary case

and I belive a pack of stylus's

Its almost like $260!!! Shoot the website even makes you buy the system and 4 games. This is nuts. Just think what they are gonna do with the PSP and Xbox 2!!!

Anyway, he told me that they had a few the other day and a lady asked about it, after hearing the deal she was like, "No thnks!" and some other lady steped right up and shelled otu the cash!

Welcome to the supply/demand market.

A) Waiting a few months after release when actual games of worth are available and the system corrected of possible defects...

B) Buying it now while being forced to buy filler crap when everybody else has bought out the best games...

April 20th; My handheld Christmas, cuz I do my taxes EARLY GODDAMNIT.

If I went to my local EB, I'd just be like "one NDS please" and they'd sell me the system and the system alone, 'cuz I've been shopping there for years and I'm friendly with the management. :)

because, of course, you're a nintendo rep.

We haven't been forcing customers to buy package deals for the DS, the way the launch periods for the GBA and pretty much every system released since the N64 have gone (2 games + accessory). DS shipments have slowed to a trickle now, with maybe about 3 shipped every few days, which are basically snapped up in (literally) seconds by walk-ins.

Hilarious.
At that point I would just leave the store, and buy it somewhere else. Or just wait. You don't have to put up with that shit, but people do, because they're fucking impatient.

They're only selling PS2 packages from their web site. I believe it impossible to buy a PS2 form them without their designate game. Way to take advantage of the customer.

...For shopping at EB. I used to love that chain so much, but lately (read: The past few years), I've lost my respect for the operation as a whole entirely. Between passing off used games as new, blatantly shafting people on trade-ins, passive-aggressive behavior to customers who want a new title on launch day but didn't pre-order, forced bundles, and management-required hard sells of disc cleaners, magazine subscriptions, and strategy guides when all I want is a freakin' headphone adapter for my GBA make it impossible for me to shop there without leaving a little more pissed off than I was before I made my purchase.

TRU/Best Buy/Circuit City fo' life.

Same goes for GS for me as well. Oh and I'll add Fry's to your "fo' life" list cuz I buy plenty of games on sale there as well as the other stores you mentioned. :)

You guys should also check out GameRush. I don't know about every location but the two around here are like EB used to be, games only and no pushy sales tactics or other nonsense.

This is why you buy your gaming stuff at Circuit City, Best Buy or any store that doesn't just specialize in video games. Fuck Gamestop/EB up the ass

If you cannot find a DS now heed this man's sage advice. It is not worth all the trouble and time trying to find a system now. Just wait until after Christmas to leisurely pick up a system along with a few new games if you wish. IF you happen to spot one off chance or have a friend who can get you one (i.e.: a game store manager) then take the opportunity. A benefit if you decide to wait is that you might be able to get one of the Japanese launch games that are released domestically or other titles and not get stuck with a limited selection (well by then it still might be limited, who knows).

Just be wary as hell of buying a tv or laptop or something. They won't let you out without the Warranty. I only buy that stuff online now.

EB is weird lately, they wig out when I won't buy something because it's not shrinkwrapped in the case...whatever :/
My pre-emptive strike towards this is to ask if they have any "sealed" copies upfront before they even attempt to open the drawer. If I start getting a lecture I simply cut them off with "a simple yes or no will suffice, thank you". I know it's rude and all but so are unwanted lectures aimed at total strangers.

This is because gamers accross the world are wanting to get their hands on Nintendo® DS, an innovative new portable game system that introduces all-new, exciting ways to interact with games, such as a touch screen, two crystal clear backlit screens, microphone for voice control, and advanced wireless features.

OK Jr. I'll just say it once: Stop acting like the nintendo fanboy you are. And if you don't care about us poor GA members having to read your ridiculous advertising posts, at least think about yourself cause if you continue like that you'll definatelly get banned. You and snapty are in my list of the most annoying members in GAF.

From Nintendo's FAQ:

What does "DS" stand for?

To our developers, it stands for "Developers' System," since we believe it gives game creators brand new tools which will lead to more innovative games for the worlds' players.

It can also stand for "Dual Screen."

...

Was that last answer self-serving bullshit?

Yes, probably.

Couldnt agree more. Why people still buy from these types of places is amazing.

I finally grabbed a DS today, I am so happy. I only picked up Mario but I'm already in love with the game all over again. Probably pick up Magic XX/XY later in the month due to GAF reccomendations.

Also seriously give RR a try. Every person that has played it has liked it, whether they use the D-pad or the analog screen.

Sure I might give RR a shot. I'm a huge Ridge Racer fan myself, I don't think I'll buy it but I'll ask the manager to pop it in to see how it's aged.

Are you a mod??? I think its interesting that you are so up in arms against my posts. Other people seem to enjoy them, they get a ton of views and susbisquently a lot of posts (if they aren't about obscure Xbox or PS2 titles) I am trying to bring decent conversation to the boards, if you dont like it then dont read them, it seems pretty easy. I'm not selling anything, you are nuts to even think that, it doesn't make sense. I guess every person going gaga over ridge racers on the PSP must be Sony Reps? Like I said, if you dont like the topic dont read it and start your own about something else.

In the case of Ridge Racer, I think it is a good gmae, all it got was the hell bbashed out of it in the last few weeks, I thought it would be nice for someone to post something fun about it, I even included a video, get over yourself. you seem to be more biased and a trying to pitch against something than I am for something.

Well it IS the original RR for the most part, but it is still fun. you may not think its $30 of fun though. The game is one you might want to rent. Contrary to popular beliefe on the boards here it does take a little to get used to the touch screen control with the thumbstrap but once you do (if you dont mind your thumb cramping a little) it is very sweet to control the car this way.

My EB, Bay City, MI is great. I'm a regular, the management knows it, and get treated like a VIP. I get ALL of my hardware there. Can't beat the warranty.
