Anything wrong with Capcom vs. SNK 2 for PS2?

I recently tracked this down after parting ways with the DC version a long time ago. I had been craving using the SNK cast, and really liked this game on the DC. I just couldn't understand the endings on it.

Are there any glitches on this version at all that anyone knows of?

I think some people prefer this version of the game to others as the closest to the arcade version (roll canceling?), but it's been a while.

I wouldn't mind having the game on PS2 myself, but the U.S. version seems to have disappeared from all the stores around here.

The PS2 version is fine, roll cancelling is still in. Slightly sharper image than DC.

One thing I remember about the PS2 version is that the backgrounds actually seemed a little more zoomed out in comparison to the DC version. Also the flame effects look better on the DC version (the slightly blurrier picture helps) IIRC.

Out of curiosity, how did the GC/Xbox ports fare?

Also.... By all accounts I have read, everyone has advised to stay away from Capcom Fighting Evolution and SNK vs. Capcom : Chaos...

Is this correct?

I'm trying to build a nice backlog of games up so I can avoid buying a new system till PS3 hits. I'm so glad never took the slap in the face of parting ways with my DC and library of 2D fighters on it for the $50 people said they 'might' offer me for it.

yes stay away like plague
i believe the ps2 rc timing is very close to the arcade, some people might argue that the dc one is closer.. if you notice the difference then it shouldn't really matter i guess since you should be able to adjust.
also its nice that the ps2 version can be used with HDLoader :D

Don't bother with them.

Unless of course you're a 2D fighting game fanboy and feel like you must have them in your collection.

Flame effects are bullshit on all versions, it's just more noticable on PS2 with the sharp display. Unless you're talking about the PAL PS2 version which is squashed like an orange. Worst PAL conversion ever.

Oh, and get CFJ/E if you can find it for cheap. It's fairly fun to pit the different game systems against each other, and some of the characters ARE new to 99.9% of the fighting gamer population. The gameplay is solid at least, which is more than you can say about SvC...

That's going to be the case for most people, yes. :) CFE's problem is that it's a complete rehash with ONE new character. Gameplay really isn't bad for what it is, it's just that the game feels so sloppy and thrown together that you end up playing SF3, SFA3, Vampire Savior, etc. instead. CvS2 is MUCH better.

I'm one of the few that likes SvC Chaos, but let me tell you, the game is broken like crazy. I just find it fun to use the cast of characters in the game; you might want to try it out if you can get it cheap and want to try using characters like Zero, Tessa, Evil Ken, Mars People, etc. I still think it's more fun to play than CFE is; the game play might be messed up (but then so is MvC2), but at least it's got some characters never before seen in a fighter, new match-ups, etc.

If you have an Xbox (which I assume you do since SvC Chaos was only released on XBox over here), wait a week for Capcom Fighting Evolution; chances are slim, but it's possible they tweaked some stuff or added a character or two. (very doubtful though). It will have online play.

I picked SvC Chaos up at EB for $14.99 new a couple of weeks back. It's not something I would have recommended at full price, but for $15, I'd say it's worth checking out. :)

Eh? Slightly sharper image? On a regular TV, maybe. On a good tv(480p and up)? Not a chance. I have this game for the Dreamcast, PS2, and Xbox. Out of the 3 versions, I would rate the Xbox version the highest, but only because of the online play. Other than that, the Dreamcast version is the best visually, seeing as how the game originated on the Dreamcast. Other than that, they're all pretty much identical. But as far as image quality goes: 1) Dreamcast 2)Xbox 3)PS2. I've played the Dreamcast version in 480p, and it's slightly sharper than the Xbox version running at the same resolution, and much sharper than the 480i PS2 version.

The load times are slightly longer than DC too. The characters aren't anti-aliased like they are on DC, so they are a bit pixelated (doesn't really look bad though) Aside from some shimmering from the hud, it's a pretty accurate port. Not at all butchered like PS2 MvC2.

EDIT: SvC is down to $15? Might grab it for collector's sake, even though I detest the game.

CvS2 EO for Xbox and GC isn't really comparable to the PS2/DC versions, it's like a different game. No RCs, +5% HP to Kyosuke and some others, +5% damage to the same characters (I believe Eagle gets +5% damage also, good choice there), -5% HP/damage to Sagat, Blanka, and I'm sure a few others, and P-Groove has super cancelling off of special moves.

CvS2 is just as good as the DC version, but it has a game-crashing bug with Yun that you'll probably never come across.
