Anyway to hook a PSP up to a mac?

SO I have to pay for either version?

I think both programs have trial versions. And of course, you need a USB cable to connect the Macintosh home computing unit to the PSP.

The Mac recognises the PSP as a drive just by connecting it via the mini-USB cable, so you can copy files manually if you want.

Formatting the memory stick from the PSP's system menu will set-up the directories for you. Video files have to be in the right format and named correctly, but mp3's and photos you should just be able to drag into the relevant directories.

PSP works just fine on the mac without any program, like the poster above me said. If you are looking for something to manage music, movies, game saves, though, I recommend PSPWare.

Did you remember to active the USB port by going to Settings > USB Connection from the Home menu?
