In adapting the material to America, the role of Alita could've been cast to anybody and it was down to a White American, Latina American, and a bi-racial Black American before going with the Latina American.

So? That doesnt fix the crux of what was supposed to be the issue with these recent films. It doesn't help looking at the rest of the cast. Why is it that characters always switch from Asian and not the other way around?

The problem is you're still thinking the character is Asian, or more specifically Japanese, however the whole point of the adaptation to America is to make the characters American. So anybody could've played the role.

As far as the rest of the cast. The role of Hugo, Alita's love interest, is being played by Keenan Johnson in what they describe as "ethnically ambiguous". I'm not sure what his full ethnicity is, but he looks part Asian.

Why is it weird? The albums were sold with Alita names in here?

huh, weird, was sure that it was still Gunnm for most of europe! Here in france they kept the original names! If we're the minority they'll probably change it here too for the movie, (it's not a big deal, but i hope they'll still keep the original names like the serie we grew up with)
