I recall hearing about plans for this a while ago, but nothing came of it at the time. Hard pass on it for me, either way.

Surface of Me

I'm not an NPC. And neither are we.
Is it weird I already knew the Rock would probably be involved without clicking on the thread?

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
The issue I know will most likely pop up is that a remake or whatever will treat the character of Jack Burton as some super competent bad ass played by the Rock when in fact that character was the comedic relief and a fuck up to the real protagonist Wang. Oh and instead of something as goofy as Egg Chen and Lo Pan having a battle between giant warriors made of light that they are controlling like they're playing street fighter at the arcade we will get some overproduced super "slick" CGI battle.

Just remember what ol' Jack Burton does when the earth quakes, and the poison arrows fall from the sky, and the pillars of Heaven shake. Yeah, Jack Burton just looks that big ol' storm right square in the eye and he says, "Give me your best shot, pal. I can take it."

The Rock is pursuing it, but hopefully it never gets made.

As has been said, he is totally wrong for the character. Completely misses the point. Fuck off, Dwayne.

I don't know why he would want to even remake it. The movie is great, but honestly Rock go do your own thing.

makes good threads.
They really need to get Jason Carpenter involve. Dude hasn't made a film since....

This is just not going to work no matter who plays who. Just stop it Hollywood. You're looking very sad these days.

Here we go again. They cant remake it, Hollywood has no originality, it will be bad.

The movie will come out, be shit and we'll promtley forget it ever existed.

Just like every other remake.

I imagine there is some Hollywood exec super excited because they think this will tap into the huge Chinese market.

I wonder a Big Trouble in Little China remake will pass the Chinese censors with all the mystical/magic stuff that was in the original.

That's not necessarily true. I could easily see The Rock being up for mocking himself.
I don't think he has the chops to pull it off.

Russell was a fucking beast in the 80s.

He is just going to do a shitty Burton impression and nerds are going to have to take to the streets.

Rented this movie a lot as a kid, in the blu ray collection now.

Carpenter was mostly dumped on post-Halloween but his movies are classics. Even The Thing was panned by critics. Love me some carpenter.

Escape from new York has also been in talks of being remade.

There have been others, to be sure. There are always others. But you know, Mr. Burton, the difficulties between men and women. How seldom it works out? Yet we all keep trying, like fools.

Wow, if Kurt Russell, the holiest of holiest is upset, well then... Hollywood is dead.

Russell is a legend dude.

The thing
Overboard
Btilc
Escape from new York
Used cars
Fox and the hound
Death proof
Bone tomahawk
Tombstone

I could go for days.

The last words Walt Disney wrote were, "Kurt Russell"

Look it up.

When Walt gets unfrozen he will finish that sentence

"For president"

Yeah, pretty much every movie he made post-Halloween only got love after the theatrical release.

I'm down as long as they do their own creative take on it and not just repeat what's been done in the original. Hell, they missed their opportunity in the mid to late 90's, early 2000's to remake The Last Dragon with Busta Rhymes as Sho 'Nuff. Tell me that wouldn't have been perfect casting. I think Chris Pratt or Paul Rudd would work better as the Jack Burton character.

My biggest fear with the movie, given the way casting has been going, is an entirely whitewashed cast. I only watched it recently but with how Asian Americans are demanding more representation in media, this movie in the 80s was filled to the brim with actual Asians. (The jade eyed beauty from Peking looked white but was actually Asian or at least half. Also a penthouse model or something )

This movie simply would not work today. Well, it might find a niche audience, but it won't be a success. I think the main question is "Why?"
Hollywood really mining that nostalgia
