Who were they bluffing?

If they were bluffing Fujifilm, Apple, HTC, Samsung, they know they aren't going to get a settlement in a week.
Yeah the same Kodak that

Are you guys bored with these "Apple legal battle of the day threads" yet? What new ground are we really breaking here by discussing every single legal situation Apple gets themselves into...either directly by them or pushed on them by others?

Who gives a shit?
New news = new thread. That comes from Evilore

You've been asking for megathreads with the expressed intent to suppress news that is negative of apple for almost 2 years. Give it up.

Cool fact: I've changed my opinion since then. I don't want a megathread. I want a "no thread".

Just stating an opinion. Since you're keeping tabs on me, I'm sure you've noted that my participation in these threads has been lessening over time as well.

...but it seems like you guys still get a kick out of it so it'll stay. I just think it's obvious that the people that create these threads have very little interest in the topic of legal battles involving Apple and have very much interest in negative Apple news. Every single one of these threads might as well be called "I still think Apple is an evil company Part XX".

Edit: To clarify, I'm not saying all negative Apple news isn't news worthy. What I'm saying is that creating a new thread every day for every legal battle Apple gets involved in isn't generating any new conversation. All it does is confirm that the people constantly creating them still don't like Apple...that's it.

You could start doing what the Anti-Apple brigade does and start posting topics for every single instance Samsung, HTC, Microsoft, etc sue somebody or any time there is a news piece about Microsoft's usage of cheap Foxconn labor.

A quick google news search brings up a ton of stories within the last week about Android oem's and Microsoft sueing over patents.

I'm not interested enough, and the act would really just be a petty attempt to prove a point to people who don't listen to reason.

I just foolishly state my opinion that I think these threads are silly from time to time in an attempt to point out how obvious and lame they are to deaf ears or blind eyes.

As someone who lived through the "beleaguered Apple" days, it's quite amusing to see the state of commentary about them lately.

Nor do any other Apple fans, which is why every negative piece of news about them gets posted yet nothing for the Android/MS side of things unless its so huge it's impossible to ignore.

Basically it comes across that the non-Apple fans are just plain bitter and angry about how well Apple is doing so they post it. Apple fans just don't give a shit enough to post every petty negative piece of news about the competition. It's kinda embarrising to watch especially with people like kurtrussell.

Who gives a shit?

To be fair it affects us as consumers. Apple monopolizing on all the patents is not a good thing at all.

Most of them have a decent number of replies. People are clearly happy to talk about it.

It's cool, you can pretend that it's a super interesting topic generating new discussion if you'd like.

I'll be done with this thread at this point, just felt like making a drop-in for no good reason.

Yeah the same Kodak that

.
I don't see how that pertains to the legal department, which has experience with suing nearly every mobile manufacturer in the last 2 years. They know these suits take time. Especially since news reports all discussed these suits in the context of an impending bankruptcy--I doubt the companies even had time to investigate the claims fully, let alone enter into settlement discussions within the 1-9 days from bankruptcy protection settlement.

It's also an entirely different decision process from the camera division deciding they should show their products at CES (every electronics division must be there) and the board of Kodak deciding to shutter the camera business as they need to make decisions on how to restructure under bankruptcy.

So Apple was idiotic and showed off its fancy new camera to Kodak before patenting it and Kodak took the initiative and patented it themselves. You snooze you lose Apple. Dragon's Den is always warning the inventors about this.

I'm willing to bet that people would be singing a different tune if the roles were reversed.

As a pretend doctor, I recommend this:

Lol!

Are people actually suggesting that the only Apple threads allowed be Apple's PR news and |OT| or something?

I mean if it's like that can we also ban all the threads about stuffs happening outside of Europe while we're at it?
I mean since we're on a censoring spree...

Ok. You can continue getting upset your favourite corporation is being picked on on a message board.

It's more that it makes for fucking boring conversation.

OP: "Hey! Look at this bad thing that Apple did!"

*insert 12 posts of random, poorly phrased criticism*

Sensible Poster: "Well, actually, it's a little more complicated than that....(gives explanation)"

*20 more posts of criticism mixed with 5 people trying to draw attention to the facts of the matter*

These topics are all the same. People don't want discussion, they want to validate their hatred of Apple in an echo-chamber.

So you're for the removal of NPD threads too then, right?
I mean it's pretty much all the same at this point...
Oh and ban all e3 threads too, I mean it's always kinda the same meltdowns and all.

To be honest though, Apple has just became "THE BIG BAD CORPORATION" now, filling the role Microsoft had in laste 90s. Just like it was hip to hate on M$ back then it's now becoming hip to hate on Apple. Nothing new, that's just the fate of the biggest targets.

Is it really that hip to hate on Apple right now? Outside of online forums that is.

I have no idea how you find these things analogous. Do people regularly fly in the face of established facts in those threads? Do people ignore the figures in the OP and then comment on what they feel sales should have been?

The problem with these threads is that no matter who is in the wrong, Apple is in the wrong. Even if it can be proved beyond question that Apple aren't in the wrong, Apple are in the wrong. There's no room for discussion. Any attempt to draw attention to the facts instantly marks one out as a 'sheep' or whatever the preferred term is. It's boring.

More that it is a bit hilariously sad how every small piece of negative Apple news gets a topic while all the endless patent related and overseas labor related news stories about Microsoft, Samsung, HTC, etc never get mentioned.

Why ignore what every tech company is doing except Apple? Only explanation is that those posting the topics obviously have a strong dislike of Apple and are just looking for anything negative to post about them. If they honestly cared about the patent issues in the tech industry they'd post topics about it when MS, Samsung, etc sue. But shock of all shocks they never post those!

Outside of the computer litterates no one hated MSFT either.

All I'm saying is that if your only argument for closing such threads be that they're always the same you might as well close gaf because to be fair npd threads and all pretty much always follow the same pattern too.

Let's not act like what Apple is doing is ok because other do this too.
for all that's worth I don't even care if the dinosaur Kodak is dead because of this or if they die a painful brankrupt death either.
I don't even give a shit if Apple is doing something good or wrong here.
Heck I could actually make a thread right now about how Apple is killing their historical distributors here for no other reason than being inconsiderate douchebags.
But I'm sure that plenty of people here would that it's ok because it's Apple too ;).

I don't think these threads should be closed, I just think they ought to be ignored by anyone that wants serious discussion in favour of some sort of 'Mobile Patent Ethics' megathread. Of course, that thread would end up full of the same shit.

I don't think that's true, but maybe it is.

The trend seems to be increasing hate. Gets worse and worse each year.

Do you see this in person though? I can't remember the last time I actually met someone who said they hate Apple. I've met people who didn't like the iPhone, or who thought the iPad was a stupid idea but none that hate the company as a whole.

I love their products but this kind of stuff really rubs me the wrong way.

I love their products as well but I'm kind of indifferent to all the patent stuff. It seems like every company is doing it and so far for consumers almost nothing has changed.
Queue the posters with 1000 reasons why Apple has ruined everything

Why ignore what every tech company is doing except Apple?

Because they're the biggest now. Apple used to be an underdog and people are always forgiving underdogs. Once they became the biggest they stopped getting a free pass. It's just image people have, nothing more. Samsung is now the poor underdog that's bullied by the big bad Apple.
What the companies are doing doesn't matter much in those thread. People just percieve everything through their lenses of the image they have of each company.

Comes with being the poster child of an industry.

The people who "care" about patent problems enough to post them only do so to post negative pieces about Apple. Those are the only articles they'd link in such a mega-thread.

Patent lawsuits are just a code word for the irrational anti-Appple brigade to post negative topics about Apple.

They don't care about patents or the issue in the tech industry. If they did they'd post articles about the endless lawsuits brought about by Samsung, Microsoft, etc. But they don't. They ignore those and post only the Apple ones. They only care about patent issues in that it lets them bash Apple, period. If some of them actually started giving articles to when the competition sues over patents it'd be a much different situation. But they never do. And will use any meaningless news story that allows them to do that that they can get.

Comes with being the poster child of an industry.

But they aren't only posting Apple patent stories because Apple is the market leader. That'd actually be understandable if it was the case. They only care about attacking apple and heaping praise on their competiton. If you look at the post history of the regular posters who post these topics the vast majority of all their tech related posts involve trashing Apple. It's done because they don't like Apple, not because they care about the state of patents in the industry.

I am a Apple fan and hold back on posting negative topics about all the lawsuits that Samsung and the rest take part in because it'd be way too fanboyish to do that. The anti-Apple types are more than happy to make the anti-Apple fanboy bait topics such as these

You do realize that by not ignoring such topics as this one you're part of the problem?

I don't think that's true, but maybe it is.

I was computer litterate back then and I've seen them act and I was one of the only guys who had a bone against them at the time.
Outside fo the web, people were mostly "Good for them" more than anything.

Get over yourself, people don't care about Apple as much as you think they do.

Well, just online. If it was in actual reality Apple sales wouldn't keep skyrocketed every quarter.

Nah. As MS' example showed being hated doesn't stop you from achieving record sales. Of course both the haters and fanboys of Apple are in minority, but the majority is silent. It doesn't love or hate Apple, they just buy good popular products and couldn't care less who makes them.

Most GAF threads don't appeal to me, so I don't click them. The Apple Fanboy Brigade can just ignore these threads if they upset and/or bore them.

I thought it was basically a requirement that you have to seek legal action against anyone you may think has violated your copyright otherwise you run the risk of loosing that copyright/trademark

If there was an 'Apple Fanboy Brigade' on GAF, I'd say it was self-evident that they were not only avoiding these threads, they're avoiding flooding the OT with patent topics regarding other manufacturers in retaliation.

Apple Fanboy Brigade, whoever you are, wherever you are, I salute you for rising above these petty squabbles.

I've said it before I'll say it again, I really love your jokes.

Which is why people start these threads every day. To stir up Apple hate. Provoking your hatred towards Apple is their goal.

LOL, what? Did you actually live through the '90s? Apple was mocked mercilessly for being "unpopular" and "irrelevant" back then. Now they're being mocked for being "too popular" and "too powerful".

The company's mere existence has been a sore point for "passionate" computer users ever since they released the Mac, which was derided as a "computer for babies".

I thought it was basically a requirement that you have to seek legal action against anyone you may think has violated your copyright otherwise you run the risk of loosing that copyright/trademark

Trademarks yes; you have to pursue or the term falls into the common vernacular. Patents, on the other hand, have tons of history of people waiting forever to pursue because they their legal team suggests its a better strategy. (Thats why, for example, you often see patent trolls sue small companies to build up funds and take on a big company later down the line...) I'm not aware of any kind of wait being a legal killer for patents apart from waiting until the patent is about to expire, but I'm not a lawyer...
