Just got a iPhone and need some recommendations, I want the best app for the following

Video player (play any file type without the need for conversion)
Photo Editor
DJ/audio mixing/producing
Streaming TV shows

I like djay for that purpose.

Oplayer and Djay and great

Anyway does anyone know of a decent YouTube app that is better than the default one. I want to be able to search by date added, I also would like to be able to search a channel (user).

I'm looking for an app that does a specific thing.

I work as a corporate videographer/photographer/general multimedia dude. It's a two-man operation - just me and my boss - and we share the workload pretty evenly.

What we need is a project tracking app that we can both log into and see the progress of a project and tick off progression.

Any ideas?

Does anyone know of some good news apps for general/world news?

I had the 360news app for a while but it crashes too often so I deleted it.
I'd like to find a replacement.

Flipboard and the generic categories or Zite

Did you people know that you can watch live tv on the iphone? I just blew my tiny mind. Viewers in the uk can go to http://www.tvcatchup.com/ to watch live tv through pretty much anything. FilmOn TV is an app that does a similar thing. This is awesome news! Eastenders in the kitchen, newsnight in bed, Big Brother in the bath... love it. I assume there something similar for you yanks.

Stupid question, probably answered a ton:

There's obviously no way to view and edit my MS Office files (.docs, etc) on my iPhone...right? What would be the most efficient/cheapest way to share word processing files across both my phone and say, my MacBook/PC?

I'm reading over everything I can find about Pages, and the wording and specifications are a little unclear. Apparently, I can view Pages docs I create on my Mac on my iPhone (but then, with pdf formats, I could do that with MS .docs too), and there seems to be a version of Pages specifically for iOS that allows me to create/edit files, but it isn't clear if they can be shared/sync'd with my Mac to allow files to move between my phone and Mac easily and effectively.

Ideally, what I'd want is to be able to work with a pool of word processing documents on both my Mac and iPhone that sync/update every time I sync my phone to my mac. I keep a lot of notes on the go in the Notes app on my phone, adding and modifying them all the time, and I have need of being able to access them readily at home now without having to retype them all for hours.

Thanks for any advice!

Second question:

I hope to grab the next iPad whenever it comes out. Assuming things work as they do now, if I were to say, buy Pages now off the app store for my phone, would I be eligible to grab Pages for iPad for free later on? Or are they different apps?

I know that that the iPhone version of Pages is pretty full featured. I have it-want me to test something for you? Like send a word doc to it, edit it, and send back as a word doc?

If you could actually work with Word .docs, that'd be quite something!

I actually just read this press release on apple's own site (who knew, I could just check there, haha) http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2011/05/31Apple-iWork-Now-Available-For-iPhone-iPod-touch-Users.html, and it seems to indicate you can export/import Pages documents to/from your Mac. I just wonder how smoothly it actually works in practice.

I already have MSOffice and don't really want to buy Pages as an app as well as Pages (as part of iWork) for my Mac if I don't have to.

Ok so yeah it worked. I made a word document containing the text of your post.
Emailed that document to my iPhone.
Opened the document up in Pages on my iPhone.

I made an edit, added one sentence at the end...
I saved the document.
Went to "share" it. I chose Email, and it gave me an option to choose what format the shared document would be in.

I chose Word document, and emailed it back to my computer.

I then opened the edited Word Document back on my computer in Microsoft Word-it's none the wiser that a Apple-based document editor worked on the document.

Brilliant.

You sir, are a gentleman and a scholar. Thanks for going through all that work for me. App bought.

Now, my last question is whether or not Pages '09 for Mac would actually support auto-synching with its iOS counterpart so I could skip the e-mailing/sharing step altogether.

Cheers to hopefully never having to use Notes again.

I think when iCloud comes out it will do that. You'll have to enable it on both the computer and iOS, and theoretically you'll make an edit on the iOS device, and iCloud will make that same edit on your computer in the background.

The more research I'm doing, the more it looks like iCloud will only support that kind of sync functionality between iOS devices (your iPhone/Pod/Pad, and not between iOS/Mac OS devices).

That means no buying Pages for my Mac right now. I'd actually have gone for it if it could sync with my iOS Pages (which I'm lovin' so far). But if I'm going to have to e-mail/export and import docs back and forth regardless of whether I'm using Pages or Word on my Mac, I don't see the point in the expense.

whats the best app for doctors in terms of patient charts?
I assume a medical company would be looking for an app that interfaces with some other medical software no? Rather than the other way around?

I'd search out your patient record software options (for computers) first, then see which of those have an iPad/iPhone app that they can interface with.

on a iphone 3G and haven't used the phone for apps much - don't game on it but can you guys recommend apps to make the most of my 4S when I get it? I was looking at some of the stuff i loved on the ipad and hating on the fact that something like 8mm HD is not universal so i'll have to repurchase.

right now:

twitter/integrated
facebook
hipstamatic
four square
instagram

?
I'd like apps that will diversify what phone can do - in the case of the 2 camera apps (instagram/hipsta) photography and the social stuff. Any essentials? Games are also good recommendations but I tend to play on the ipad2.

I've talked with the hospital, they aren't dealing with apps right now, they are making us transfer patient charts to all make it electronic but there is no app version with it

if I were to start tracking patient info from scratch which app should I use?

Por favor, please educate me. How you actually import the e-mailed document in Pages iOS? I don't seem to see a way or option anywhere.

edit - wow, touching the attachment in the e-mail app actually lets you "Open in Pages" - don't know why I assumed the most obvious path wasn't going to work, lol.

I used Documents 2 Go instead of Pages. It's a universal app, and it has easy wireless transfer from computer to device. No need to e-mail yourself anything.

I've been using RunKeeper. Should I switch to Nike+ GPS?

Yes!!! Nike+ is one of my favorite apps. It's really, really well made. Its website with stats, achievements and so forth is quite awesome!

I can't find tracker (the one for tracking shipments) on the App Store, whenever I search for tracker, course I come up with a million options. Anyone got a direct link?

I like Nike+ because the website and the app are really well designed. However, I don't like that there's no api or way to get data out. I also don't like that the website is slow Flash.

Do I want Atomic or Dolphin as my browser?

Safari is the ultimate junk-crap.

I use iCab personally, but I don't like Dolphin because going 'back' is a 2-step process (bring up gestures area, gesture < back) and that kind of annoys me.

Having great problems with my iphone after trying to update it to 5.01.
Something went wrong during the operation and my phone is now stuck with this screen:
kkpd2ytfknudtaf76q2f.jpg

It's not recognized by the computer.
Goes back to the same screen directly if I hard-reset the phone (power+home button)
I have tried to turn on and off the apple device service on computer.

Anybody have any idea what I should do?
I have tried everything that Apple support suggests on their page, except uninstalling everything iTunes.

Using Tune Radio Pro and listening to Streaming Soundtracks. Thing is it never displays the correct album cover... Really bugging me. Is it a bug or does it just display random album cover based on a composer?

I just got an app I've wanted to do for a long time approved! It's in the "retro camera" category, I suppose, but with a "love of pixels and 80s Macintosh"-slant. It's called 1-Bit Camera, and I'm quite proud of it. (:

Heh, you made this? The app has been making its rounds through tech sites/blogs, congrats!

GAF > Internet > GAF, baby!

Congrats man, you're probably going to get a lot of luvin!

Sometimes I get file in e-mail that I have to attach to another e-mail message.
This is not possible if the file format is not supported by iPhone. Or in some cases even if file is supported but vieer does not have "mail this file" option (Excel files for example)

Is there an app that would temporary save any file from e-mail (by "open in..." option) and then allow me to e-mail it?

Anyone have any recommendations for an app that lets you sync grocery lists? So if I add something and my wife adds something we both see it and if she gets it then it comes off of the list or gets a strike through? Also if this app has an android version that syncs would be awesome.
