What's broken about it?

Connection problems
Infinite spinning icon when it's trying to connect/load stuff
Crashes when linking meta contacts
Crashes when sending pictures
Crashes when doing all sorts of other stuff
Favorites lists disappears out of nowhere causing you to have to redo them
Disconnects from servers when you should still be log in
Lack of notification sometimes when you're disconnected so you don't know you are
Delays in messages so you get spammed suddenly when you open the app
Some of their Facebook servers are still down
And more

The current version is an unstable buggy mess and they've been having issues on their server end as well which is slowly getting better but it's not working completely still and is simply unreliable and sometimes even simply unusable.

I'd wait or go with IM+ if you need something now. Beejive may have been awesome in the past, but their 3.0 update is a rushed buggy mess that is sometimes even unusable. Avoid at least till you know they've fixed it.

I like The Weather Channel. It's free and it has hourly forecasts, 36 hour, and 10 day too. Pretty much all I need.

Unless you have a real need for it pulling data straight out of the cloud, you can always just sync iCal to your Google calendar and then have a combined view on the iPhone.

I've tried a few. Short version:

Tweetie
Pros: Simple, clean, quick, intuitive. Local search based on GPS is cool. Really easy to manage multiple accounts. Let's you click to see user's pictures full-screen (the only app in this post that does that for some reason).
Cons: Costs $3. Doesn't notify you about DMs or @replies.
Note: Tweetie is broken at the moment, so you can't do any searches properly. This should be fixed soon.

Pros: Free. Seems to have a lot it can do. Notifies about DMs and @replies.
Cons: Dark, clunky (on the 3G at least). Doesn't seem to do some simple things well, like nearby searches.

Pros: Free (ad supported). Simple interface. Notifys about @replies and DMs.
Cons: Over-notifies you about new tweets.
Note: The pro version is five bucks for no ads, multi account support, and a few more features.

Birdfeed
Pros: Very nice looking interface. Notifies just @s and DMs, not regular tweets.
Cons: Expensive ($5). Buggy (local search not working at the moment).

IMO Tweetie is the frontrunner at the moment if it got notification and the bugs fixed. Birdfeed is a close second but it's too expensive.

Yeah it's only good for this season. Last year they lowered the app price during the playoffs but that may have been to drum up interest. They usually do mid-season price reductions to the TV packages so maybe they'll do the same here.

By the way it's a very cool app, very much worth it.

I know, I should have bought it right away, the only thing really holding me back is the price (because I'd also have to upgrade my touch to 3.0). If the price drops to 4.99$ I'll bite right away.

Do any of the apps have support for the friends feature? Checking queues, ratings, quizzes etc..

None of the Netflix apps I have used had support for friends. You can see the star ratings of the movies, not the ratings with comments. All the apps I used seem pretty bareboned compared with the actual features of the Netflix website. I really wish Netflix would make their own official app with complete functionality of the website.

I only have lag when going to the corner of the screen (connecting to mac). Sent an email to the developers a long time ago but I'm not sure there is anything they can do about it... besides that maybe it's your connection? have you tried creating a network with your computer, connecting directly to that and hen comparing the performance?

Ok, so I thought I'd give a little update. Again, I only have 4 pages of apps, to keep my self a bit selective. Where I can I kind of follow:

Just to add a few interesting apps I've played around with recently.

TouchPad Elite (currently 99c): Made by the developers of Jaadu VNC, supposedly a favourite for remote controlling your computer (they have Jaadu remote computer too, but I don't know how that differs). Touchpad elite is basically a trackpad for your computer. It has a keyboard, offers 2 and four finger gestures (represented by a 3-finger gesture), modifier keys and works pretty well (a bit skittish over the network, but ok overall). The advantage over Air Mouse, in my opinion, is that on the Mac atleast, it requires no additional software - it just works with the screen sharing for Leopard.

MusicIQ (it was free, possibly at 99c now): This is basically a small game that accesses your music library. It will play a clip from a song and you have to guess. It's more a toy than a serious game, but has really good presentation. You can also 'ban' songs so they don't show up in the game. There's not much to it, no guessing artists or anything like that, although I believe the developer has more plans for it.

I dumped SpeakEasy even though it's a better app than Voice Memos, because I don't really want the redundancy and Apple's is adequate.

Dumped Palringo and picked up BeeJive, and I've been happy with that.

I also got rid of PhotoBoard (wasn't playing nice with 3.0), consolidated my speedtest apps to speedtest.net app, and picked up Now Playing (don't know how I lived without this before).

I was messing around with these for the first time today. One key thing for me is being able to use landscape keyboard. Apparently Tweetie and the Pro version of TwitterFon are the only ones capable of this. It's also worth nothing that Tweetdeck runs fast as hell and is very intuitive on my 3GS. I like being able to mark everything read instantly. I also like the columns and being able to slide from @ to DM to friends, etc. If Tweetdeck has landscape keyboard that would be my choice.

I've tried almost every twitter client (except for Birdcage) and I've decided that Twittleator Pro is by and far the best. There is one screen that could use a redesign, but aside from that this program has the most rich feature set.

I came to this conclusion in no small part by the fact that I was just out on a bike ride and recorded a video tweet on my 3GS, saved it as a draft (although I could have sent it immediately), got home and then sent the draft. It worked flawlessly. I also love the interface. Did I mention that this has more features than any other twitter client? Because it does.

I actually preferred the layout of 1.0 Darkness, but the new version is useable. What I like over Sol is that it also has moon phases (as well as moon rise and set times, I believe). It also uses the GPS to find you current location and bases times on exactly where you are. The front page of the new one shows the times for all your locations you have saved (and a little graphic with the height of the sun representing the time of day). On top of that, you can select any date and find out sunset/sunrise times for that day. Very nice.

I don't know about hacks - I've never done anything more to my phone than unlocking emoji with a legitimate app.

Another neat photography related app is PhotoBuddy. Has a DOF field calculator, angle of view, lots of reference material (such as colour temp), a location based sunset/sunrise clock and so on.

Definitely agree. Just discovered the advanced search options today. Best App I own. Only thing I wish they'd change is when viewing searched or trending tweets it only gives you a More button instead of a Back button.

I don't actually use them all that often, but I like to have them handy. I liked sol very much because it was the same as the one on my Mac (which I still use). Obviously, if a better one comes along, I will replace it.

While on the desired webpage, tap the "+" and then choose the option that sends a shortcut to the main screen, I don't remember what it says...

You can do that with any webpage, and some of them already have a great icon for the iPhone (gmail, livescore, etc).

I searched a bit and didn't see many that were good that were free or .99c. Most of the good ones are 2.99 ( Photogene. Photofx, Photoforge ) but those may do more then what your looking for.

There is an app called CoolFX thats on sale for 0.99 though that you may want to look into, it has generally positive reviews ( 4 stars out of 66 reviews ). You should probably buy this one :>, lets you crop and also gives you a ton of filters / editing options.

I got some Rewardzone gift certificates to Best Buy so I ended up buying a $25 iTunes card. Bought Tweetie and Weatherbug Elite so far... probably will get CameraBag since I remembered using it on my brother's in the past. I am tempted to also get Photogene for cropping but I'll probably hold off for now.

OmniFocus - GTD (Getting things done) app which I've found to be invaluble. A slightly less expensive app that does much the same thing is Things. I needed something to help me keep track of all the little details I needed to manage my workday/errands/random things I need to do.

MLB At Bat - Worth every penny for tracking games.

Evernote - Seems pretty barebones to me, but people go crazy for it for notetaking. Clearly much better than Apple's notes app.

Mint.com - All my accounts, checking, savings, credit cards, car loans, mortgages, 401k's etc in one place. Lags by a few days but otherwise is great. Only one of my investment accounts isn't available.

Google - I live in Google Reader.

Run Keeper Free (RK_Free) - Keeps track of my running, using the GPS to track my running route, mileage, pace, etc. I don't see a reason to get the paid version.

Lose It! - Keep track of my meals and I put in my runs to see my total caloric intake each day.

Facebook - Duh.

Store - Extend - An App store that keeps track of price drops, favorites, and allows for a bit more searching that the standard app store app. I tried Pandora's box and liked this better, but not by much. I still can't stumble on items in the app store. I'm forced to scour websites to get good app recommendations. I'd love to hear of a better app for this.

iStanford - Stanford University classes, maps, news, events, etc all in one place

Wikipanion - Duh.

SportsTap - Sports scores with push notification.

Google Earth - Duh. Cool, but I don't really use it much.

GPSLite - Has lots of GPS related functions. None of which I really use. But, seems pretty extensive. Default Google Maps works for me fine.

mSecure - Keeps track of my account numbers, web accounts, etc.

AOL DailyFinance - WAYYY better than the standard stocks app.

Weather Channel - WAYY better than the standard weather app.

Skype - Excellent app, but I'd love for it to keep you logged in and have push notification.

Urban Spoon / Yelp - Restaurant / local spot search apps.

Now Playing - Movie times, DVD releases, etc.

i.TV - TV listings. Nice iphone app.

Remote - Control iTunes remotely

Pandora - Streaming Radio

iHeartRadio - CBS Streaming Radio

iDisk - Access Mobile Me iDisk documents (PDF, Word, Excel, etc)

Zillow - Real Estate - Find out how much the houses around you are worth. Did you pay too much or get a steal?

Amazon.com - Used alot.

iRace - Keeps track of races in your area. Misses a ton of races though.

I'm just going to pimp Touchpad Elite (the 99c touchpad app from the Jaadu guy(s)).

Sometimes I'm lying in bed, and I have my MBP sitting on a stool. I want to browse the web, but it is kind of painful to reach up at the computer for an extended period. A wireless touchpad is useful!

There is one main reason I like this one: No need to install software on the Mac - it uses the default Leopard Screen Sharing protocol. Nice.

Added advantages: Tap to click (works better than a separate button for the iPhone as touchpad), 2 finger click, 2-finger scroll (A must!), 3-finger gestures (mapped to 4-finger gestures on mac), keyboard, modifier keys, etc. works great!

you mean for turn by turn or as a companion for trails and stuff?

best turn by turn out now is from navigon. 70 bucks, good integration with the iphone address book and a pleasant female voice plus good navteq maps. it's the best one in the store by far. (g-maps has a shit UI for finding POI (long list, onn alphabetic order) and the sygic app uses its own proprietary keyboard that sucks. it looks and feels like it's on a windows mobile or symbian phone)

as for a more simple gps apps, Motion X GPS is like 3 bucks and has a bunch of options for measuring total distance traveled, setting waypoints, etc. it's always at the top of the navigation sales charts in the app store.
