I'm not fan of Epic nor Apple but I don't know what Epic was expecting. They are suing Apple, this is a pretty normal response to that.
The argument here is not if Apple should be a closed garden or not. They are and have been since the Appstore exists. The created the modern mobile market and they decided to go at it like it is now and people ate it up. It's been sold as an advantage because of the added security it offers. People that didn't like that jumped ship to Android (myself included) to keep the option of side loading apps through alternate stores or just simple apk.
There was a time where you couldn't even put an app that competed with something Apple offered natively like the music app or the keyboards (not sure if it's still the case) and still people ate it up. They created it and they can decide the terms. They decided is 30% and the people selling their goods there can pay up or get out. It's their business model and that's why they have the size they have.
Could Epic just retire from the Appstore and deliver Fortnite trough an installer like regular software without paying up? I think they could, right? I mean, if they weren't pursuing a legal suit.
It's like saying Ebay or Amazon can't say what is being sold on their stores or charge sellers whatever they want. That's how their model works. Sellers and buyers can decide where to sell/buy but that's it.
I don't think this will impact Apple more than it will impact Epic. I'm sorry for all those kids that can't play now because Epic had a change of heart... It is, however, an interesting case for GAAS and how there is no ownership or power over the investments people make on those environments.

Nope, installing apps through the appstore is the only way to install anything on iOS. That's part of what their lawsuit is all about.

but lets say I'm a developer and I publish a f2p game on epic games store.
the game unexpectantly becomes a mega-hit, and I strike the hundreds of millions in microtransactions constantly.

also am sure if you want to read the contract to be on the App Store it will be readable online

Apple won't get sued, since Epic violated their developer agreement Apple is fully within their rights to refund every IAP made on Fortnite. Epic is then on the hook to pay that bill. It really doesn't seem like Epic thought about the full ramifications about going up against Apple......

So without those developer certs, you won't be able to install Fortnite as a standalone app without essentially jailbreaking your Mac.

No i used logic, and where logic dictates is that epic signed an agreement with apple/google and broke the agreement. In terms of suing both google and apple they will of breached both contracts otherwise they wouldnt of been kicked of both store fronts

While this may be true, Epic is not really a small company to lose. Specially if they sort it out with google and left apple all together .
Notice how they ( epic ) didn't do any anti-marketing against google.
If google plays it smart and get in terms with epic, it's apple that gonna lose so badly with this . It won't be even funny to watch as many people will decide to switch ( specially gamers )
this plus xcloud and Facebook gaming to be exclusive to google ? It's almost game over Apple in the gaming department.

You can install anything you want. Gatekeeper just prevents you from opening the app if it's an unverified one. Unverified is pretty much anything you install from outside the App Store. You simply right click the app and "open" from there, then the app opens and macOS remembers the app as "trustworthy".
There are apps that are being completely blocked by gatekeeper, nut they can also be installed by activating "allow applications from" option in system settings. It's pretty much what you have to do on android to side load apps... the only time I've seen gatekeeper blocking something were my own frankensteined VNs I "ported" over to Mac myself.

Not necessary. You do not treat all your clients the same way. Some clients are more privileged or VIP clients . Just like how recently I believe steam changed its policy to different percentage in cut for big publishers

This. While I agree that the 30% cut that everybody takes is likely too high, there is no way I'm ever going to side with Epic here. You knowingly signed terms to be on the App Store with a well established cut being taken on the platform (and every other platform), then you knowingly tried to slip in a update to circumvent that and got banned. Then you (which was probably the plan all along) launch a smear campaign of sorts against the company, and expect them to just reverse the decision and raise your cut? Fuck you.
Do the people that are siding with Epic not realize that they are simply trying to act innocent, and like the good guys because they simply want MORE of your money? Or is this simply because people think it's cool to hate on Apple? They hit it bit with a game, and are now even more money hungry then before. This isn't about getting Apple to open up their ecosystem (don't forget that they are suing Google as well), this is simply about them not wanting to have to give up a cut of the money they make off of you. People will shit on Apple for almost everything they do. Apple doesn't need Fortnite/Epic, and Epic sure as hell needs Apple.
If this somehow ends on Epic's side, then they will go after Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo next.
