Pretty sure that was to give the illusion that it was heavy and sell the fact that it was enough to hold Show down.
It is pretty straight forward...
And no it wouldn't
It didn't stop the count when the fork lift in the past was dropped down on the person and the opponent was standing on it, neither would this.

Truth is, this was as about a good as you could expect it to be. A feud with Show was never going to put Reigns over in any fashion. Maybe they'll move on to Sheamus next.
