Are most DS games doomed because due to the DS's nature?

I was looking at the DS release list..

Is the innovative nature of the DS restricting devs from doing certain types of older style games? Nintendo harps on and on about how the DS is innovative and how it will change how handheld games are to be played, so we have come to expect a certain amount of "innovation" or "creative usage of the touchscreen" in the games that are being released for the DS.

This mindset means that developers may only make games which make use of the DS features, by any means necessary. otherwise they may lose sales and suffer low score reviews as their "more classic style" games are seen has "unimaginative" titles that "could have been" done for the GBA instead, therefore selling less than other titles..

Will forced DS-specific features cheapen the DS brand in minds of gamers?

No one is forcing developers to use the DS's features. Nintendo explicitely stated that they want developers to feel free to use whatever features they want for the DS. They can use the mic if they choose, they can use the touch screen, they can use the dual screens, they can use the gamepad.

i think talented developers will want to make real use of the ds's unique functions, and as the ds's unique functions aren't any good, this will cripple many ds games just as you expect. less talented developers will certainly make conventional ds games, but who knows whether they'll make good conventional games. i'd like to see the sorts of games i enjoyed on gba carried over to ds...i like the psp a lot, but it's already very different.

Are you saying they could choose not to use the dual/touch screen? Even if it's a badly done map or retarded steering wheel? I don't believe that. But I guess a developer would be pretty dumb to make that decision on their own anyways as it would draw attention to the small screen or weak 3D or something.
