Are you happy with Smash Bros 4's graphics?

Tekken 6 wasn't pretty. I still think soul calibur 5 was the best looking 3d fighter last gen.

Yeah I owned TK6 and no bueno :(
Sold it this week actually, but kept the arcade stick.

SCV is very pretty, but its obviously a "smaller" fighting game in visual scope.
DOA is so fucking ugly in terms of artstyle I won't even touch that one. Its like fighting with plastic dolls.

my bad but a lot of your posts in the smash thread come off like that ;d

No, I'm just stating that I prefer the 3DS' visual style, which I will stand by and say looks a lot more pleasing to the eye.

I do complain a lot about lack of 3DS coverage, sure, but as a buyer, I should be allowed to voice that we get say one screenshot every couple of weeks in some instances.

Like I said, I have never called Wii U smash inferior, I'd be lying to myself.

Cant say for the other but Tekken 6 was kinda ugly IMO

The console T6 was inferior to the arcade T6. Tekken 6 was regardless beautiful but you can't really compare that sort of realistic artstyle to the more colorful Smash Bros.

And the same team that made Tekken 6 is helping with Smash Bros. 4, FYI.

Just like when OoT 3D launched and people thought it didn't look much better than the original, I think SSB4 looks al hell of a lot better than Brawl, when you put the two games side by side. You just don't notice it because your memory is flaky.

I'm not sure if it's exactly same team. I heard the team were consists of many different department workers, like tales, Soul Caliber, etc. I would love it if the team were most of Tekken workers since they know what to do.

Can you provide the source for that comment?

graphics look fine, but I don't like the general direction of nintendo's graphic design. every major first party title looks the same: donkey kong, mario 3d world, ssmb, mario kart - there's no real distinction, no original art design for each individual title. It doesn't need to be a whole new style like wind waker for each title, but a bit more variety on a system lacking games anyway would be nice.

I was slightly disappointed with the graphics at the E3 reveal, but after taking a closer look at it with all the screens and trailers we've seen since then, I've changed my mind. I'm very happy with the graphics, especially if it ends up being 1080p/60fps, which it seems it will.

Loving the clean, colourful look it has going.

It looks good, but no better than I'd expect from a good fan made texture pack for Brawl.

MK8 is where it's at.

There's no way it'll be 1080p. Right?

The 3DS version? Barring Donkey Kong, sure.

The Wii U one? I'm mixed. Most of the facial animations are gold and a good percentage of the models/stages look great in general but others I'm not too keen on. Sonic and Link's faces are off, Mario's overalls texture is....blegh, and Skyloft still looks like complete shit.

It's mostly nitpicking, I know, but I can't help but feel uneasy when Sonic's mouth looks like it could be peeled off.

But then you have how fucking incredible Mario Kart 8 looks, which is amazing considering how terrible the previous two console iterations looked on their respective systems. I guess I wish this Smash had the same jump.

Looks great. Especially compared to horrid anime style of Brawl... blech.

?????????????

It's not amazing looking, but any sacrifices are for 1080p/60fps so I don't care in the least. They've made the right decision given the hardware the Wii U hardware.

This isn't really the case anymore with DOA5. All the character models have been overhauled completely and the skin textures actually look quite good. It's probably the best looking 3d-model fighter at the moment (Guilty Gear Xrd excluded).

But yeah, I know what you mean with the older DOA games.

Well, I didn't really say the Tekken team was exclusively helping with Smash. Just that they are helping.

And honestly, I'm very glad Nintendo contracted Namco b/c
1. It ensured that the game would release earlier than it would have.
2. Nintendo needed the help delving into HD development, which Namco has a lot of experience with.
3. Namco is vastly superior to Nintendo as far as online components of a game go and I'm extremely hopeful that Namco is the one working on the Smash netcode.

Nah, that would be SCV.

3DS version looks fantastic. Maybe the best on the system.
Wii U version is already past the point at which I stop caring about graphics, so that's fine too.

DOA have no doll characters anymore. DOA5 models looks really good.

EDIT: Beaten

Everyone looks good to me graphically except Lucario. Its like the left fur off of him and decided to keep him smooth. It throws me off compared to seeing DK all bristled up. But gorgeous still.

I'm actually surprised at how good it looks on the 3DS. I was expecting trash, but the cel-shaded appeal seems to shine brightly alongside the Wii U version.

huh?

I think it looks decent. The character models look pretty good, but some of the stages look pretty bland/average.

For me Tropical Freeze is the Wii U’s best looking game with Super Mario 3D Land coming in a close second....

It's the best looking Smash Bros. game by a wide margin. So I'm pretty happy with its graphics.

All it needs are for TLink's eyebrows to show through his hair.

Skyloft was pulled out directly from skyward sword so if you hated that game's art direction than ofcourse the stage would look bad, It looks fine to me cause it matches the characters and stuff

skyloft looks fine to me.

anyway, the best looking stage has to be

It is 1080p. I posted direct feed screenshots of resolution 1920x1080 which clearly are not upressed. Sakurai said at E3 that it was 1080. What more do people need?

Do we have a direct quote for this? It appears this is an assumption as nobody can bring up proof or quote when asked to.

If you could provide a quote or evidence, then I'm happy and people should be able to move on.

I'll do some hunting, but even without that we have the screenshots. Surely that should be enough?

I don't know why but I'm actually more impressed with the 3DSversion. The art style looks great. Kinda wish it was on Vita though, or at least the 3DS having an OLED screen but that's ok.

Donkey Kong and NSMBU are 720p60, that is the only reason I don't believe Smash Bros will be 1080p60 with 4 characters and crazy shit going on.

Graphics are good though.

And those screens look native, but I'm still not convinced those are rendered on Wii U.

Someone said DK was 1080p before too. I am not sure when some developers say 1080p they mean native 1080p, but post a quote anyway.

Mirror's Edge, DmC and Mortal Kombat 9 share the same engine. What does the engine have to do with anything?

the texturing, colour palette and modelling is done in pretty much the same style across those 4 pictures, nothing to do with the engine but a conscious effort from Nintendo to consolidate a specific, coherent look across the board.

ITT: All colourful games use the same art style!!

yes.
