Are you planning on going single console only next-gen?

I don't have the time/money to support two or three consoles next-gen, so I'm going to wait till the dust settles next-gen and own and support only one. Which console that is is still up in the air.

Anyone else planning on going single console only?
 
It's a nice idea, but no. I like a lot of different games and they're all over different systems. There's no rule you have to buy them all at launch for top price.
 
For awhile. I just don't feel like paying full launch markup...

I'm probably going to get the Revolution first, just because it's going to launch at $200.

Fun fact: I have never paid over $200 for a console.
 
I think more people will go multiple-console than ever before, at least those who want to try out the range of products. It's ps3 or 360 for high-end console gaming and then the rev for "something different".

Why the hell would I do that? Though I may not buy each system at launch by the time next generation ends just like this generation and the one before it, and the one before that, etc. I'll own all the consoles.
 
I'm gonna try and go single console only next gen. Not sure if I will succeed in doing that however.
 
Right now I'm planning on the PS3 / Rev combo but I can't say for sure I won't get a 360. I hate limiting my options.

Same on all counts. When PS3 or 360 dip to $200, I'll grab one of them (whichever looks more appealing at the time).

Well that and Sony launch hardware sucks. Seems like MS is following suit with the 360 as well. :(
 
I was GCN only this gen. It was all good until after RE4 came out. There was nothing to play for like 8 months afterwards. The sucked. I want all 3 next gen. 360 for Live Arcade, Rev for Nintendo, and PS3 for MGS4.

2005 made me realize that I can't go single console again.
 
I want a rev because it's something different, yet I can't only hold on to a Rev either. (graphics whore here who also wants his FF, MGS and the rest of the established franchises)

My gaming tastes are too varied to be satisfied by just a single console, eventually, I'll own them all, hopefully.

Indeed, except i'm going to buy a PS2 within a week so PS3 won't be here except when it's <= $150 or so
 
Never been big fan of online gaming and I just really haven't been big on Xbox lineup of FPS and the like. My roommate has one though so I can play stuff like Fight Night 3 when I want and that should suffice.

I will probably pick up PS3 because I lean more towards there lineup of games and RPG's and of course I want me some Blu-ray for my HDTV. It should work out nicely for the both of us for awhile at least being single console owners and sharing.

The jury is still out on Revolution. It has the potential to be a nice secondary console like the Gamecube was.
 
I've only supported one console each gen and never the same maker two gens in a row (NES to Genny to N64 to PS2). I'll start out with either the 360 or PS3 (whichever's cheaper when I'm ready to buy) and follow up with the other (or REV) later down the road.

I hate to waste a ton of money on consoles when the cash can go towards games on the console I already have.
 
The PS3 is a lock for the first console purchase, then Nintendo and Tecmo will decide how soon I will purchase a Revolution and/or 360 pending on the releases of Zelda/Mario and Ninja Gaiden 2.

This is exactly my approach to next-gen. I'll be getting all eventually, but PS3 and 360 are gonna have to wait until they're at least 249.99. And Revolution is likely to launch at that price, so it is ftw and auto purchase likely.
 
no way. I don't want to miss out on 360, Rev or PS3. i'm multi-console all the way.

the only thing to choose is the games and peripherals.
 
PS3 and Rev are gauranteed... and X360 is very likely (by the end of the gen I'm pretty sure I'll have one, maybe after a price cut redesign?).
 
2 console at best. Like this gen, the Xbox or PS2 was exchangeable imo. I'll probably choose between 360 and PS3 and will consider the Rev only as my second console if it's really different.
 
this'll be the the first time i have all three, unless the Rev bombs hard, but my intrests in the Rev controller for games like Golf (standing up and actually swinging the controller) and a drum kit (two controllers with a virtual drum kit) have been peaked.
 
Yes. Also a time/money/interest issue for me. Right now I'm leaning towards Revolution if it hits the $200 or below pricepoint. Only planning on (possibly) getting a PS3/360 much, much later after they have a fully fleshed out library and several price cuts.
 
All three eventually, just like this gen. I don't usually get consoles at their launch, but rather wait around until there are quite a few games I like out already and quite a few ones I like on the horizon.

I got a 360 for free, so I don't have to worry about that one. I'll start to get interested in the PS3 when MGS4 comes out, we'll see what other sort of games are around for that system. Revolution looks cool, but it's wait and see until the games come out.

I can see myself owning all three.
 
No - I'm going to get a PS3 and Revolution, and I strongly suspect my brother wants a 360, so it's a good bet that I'll wind up with everything again.

Not me. Right now, I'm intrigued by the Revolution the most, followed by the PS3 and X360 in that order. There will undoubtedly be great exclusives on each of these systems, and not being able to play them would be enough to literally eat out the insides of most gamers. :)

That being said, however, I probably won't buy them as early as I used to in generations past. I still don't have an X360, whereas I was there on day one for the DC, PS2, and most others through the years. It's just tough thinking about the money I spent on import/domestic consoles at launch and then seeing their cost a few years into a cycle. It's enough to bring a tear to my eye, Iron Eyes Cody-style.
 
Not a chance.

Each offers something I want, plus there's still mysteries to be had.

360 for (however few) Western/online titles, PS3 for my Jap. centric gaming (MGS4/DMC4 alone sold me on that, not that it was ever in question), and Rev. because I enjoy games, and wish to spite Drinky. But, as bad as it may be, I'd buy a Rev. just because it's so purty, and for the Virtual Console.
 
That's my plan, yes.

I usually buy nearly every damn console available - but given the size of my back catalog, I clearly lack the time to devote to multiple platforms. So I'm picking one - the one with the most games I want to play.

Not ruling out an eventual purchase of the other consoles, though I won't be in the market for a good long while.
 
Probably the same as this gen. Sony then Nintendo, and the buy/sell Microsoft's console about 4 times.
 
My wife and I would both like to think that I could become a single console owner for the next gen, but it just doesn't feel possible.


I've already got my 360 and I love it. I love the controller and Xbox Live and I can't imagine the competition being better in those two areas. I also must have it for exclusives like Halo 3.


The PS3 seems like a must have because of the Blue Ray HD-DVD capabilities. I would love to have an HD-DVD player and this will be my best option for that price. Then you have the actual game console and there are obvious reasons to own one for the games as well. Gran Turismo 5, MGS4, Killzone, etc, etc.


The Revolution seems like a must have for two reasons. First off, it's always gonna be home to the Nintendo exclusives and many of those are must haves for me. Second, being a 20+ year gamer, there is no way i'm gonna pass on the chance to play games with this brilliant all new control technology.



So, no matter how I look at it, there seems to be no way that i'll be happy just owning one of those consoles. Unless our financial situation demanded such restraint, I doubt i'd ever be able to not buy all 3.
 
will definately be getting PS3/Revo and will cave in and get a 360 if Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon turn out to be the second coming of Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest.

but to answer the question more directly I think most people, even the average consumers, will be getting multiple consoles, which is why Nintendo could come out very nicely if Revo is kept at a low price point.
 
I'm pretty much set on just owning a PS3 this gen. Like you said, not everyone has the time and money to support multiple consoles. I'll probably be getting a PS3 in 2007/2008. Buying consoles at launch is for retards. Have fun with your mediocre games!
 
I should stay single console, because I could game on 360 alone the next 5 years.

But I need a PS3 for Blu Ray hi def movies! So I might as well buy some PS3 games, then.
 
I'm pretty much 360 all the way this gen as my main focus is on multiplayer gaming. XBL freaking rocks.

Not planning on getting a PS3. Blu-Ray isn't a factor to me right now as I'm not willing to spend $35 per movie. TV series are going to be fucking ridiculous prices. Revolution is a possibility if the price is right.
 
I'm a cheapass .. so I will probably get an X360 when it drops in price and the Revolution. I never pay over 200 for a console (PSX being the only exception in my life).
 
I'm going to wait and see about getting a PS3, I probably won't be able to afford one until a price cut. If the Revolution is around 200, I will probably buy it at launch. I plan on having PS3/Rev.
 
If time constrictions force that, I may go with only the 360 the entire generation. Otherwise, I plan on waiting for the other console a while, be it the PS3 or the Revolution.
 
Rev/PS3.

As a gamer, what more can you ask for?

You get the fullest experience of "next gen," you get a huge tasting of "retro gen" in the Virtual Console, and you get "generation innovation" from the Rev controller.

That's EVERYTHING you need right there, really.
