PS6 Could Be the Only Next-Gen Console Charging for Online Multiplayer
Via its Nintendo Switch Online membership, Nintendo also charges for online multiplayer access, and is required for Switch 2 titles like Mario Kart World.

I mean, when you're literally having PS Plus and NSO subscriptions growing YoY, I don't think people ultimately care about that.I wouldn't be so sure about that. it is becoming very obviously inexcusable as time goes on.
Windows Central's report only made reference to the existence of a Xbox PC, not a Xbox console.that would be a PR disaster btw.
"hey! here are 2 systems, so on this one you can play online for free, and on this one you can't! and on this one GamePass will be much more expensive too because of that! but both of them are Xboxes guys!"
Yes. Because they won't be subsidizing the hardware. You think Microsoft is dropping online paywall if they're actually making a console?

This week, Xbox announced it is actively building its next-generation lineup across console, handheld, PC, cloud, and accessories. As part of this, Xbox unveiled that it has entered into a strategic, multi-year partnership with AMD to co-engineer silicon across a portfolio of devices, including future first-party consoles and cloud.
This work is part of Xbox's commitment to deliver an enduring gaming platform that enables you to play across devices in entirely new ways, with an Xbox experience designed for players – not locked to a single store or tied to one device.
Lisa Su, Chair and Chief Executive Officer of AMD, shares how Xbox and AMD are building on two decades of partnership, innovation, and trust. AMD will extend its console work to design full roadmap of gaming-optimized chips combining the power of Ryzen and Radeon for consoles, handhelds, PCs, and cloud.
Just yesterday, Nadella stated they're about to change the paradigms of PC AND Consoles.
Again, I was specifically referring to WC's reporting there.![]()

They're doing a portfolio of devices. Just yesterday, Nadella stated they're about to change the paradigms of PC AND Consoles.
That doesn't mean that they should be getting rid of one of their core subscription revenue streams that purely exists out of the very fact that it operates on a walled garden ecosystem.Yes. Because they won't be subsidizing the hardware.
They want to make consoles that play both console and PC games, they want to make Xbox PCs that play both console and PC games. Two sides of the same coin, yin and yang, just different form factors.
They are also reportedly getting rid of PC Gamepass tier. And have the 3 tiers of Gamepass as in Essential, Premium, Ultimate be the universal tiers for the entire Xbox ecosystem on various platforms from PC, Console, Cloud, Mobile.
Basically, equalize all sides, every1 pays the same across the ecosystem.
Here's his statement. I don't see anywhere he says that unless you are guessing that is what he means by innovating on the "system side" of consoles and PC.

"We just want to make sure the games are being enjoyed by gamers everywhere; consoles, PC, mobile, cloud, or TV." -

It was Totilo's tweet that mentioned the words console/pc paradigm.
Anyways, there's also this.
He clearly mentions Consoles and PCs as separate form factors.
Jez is clueless in terms of technical information. He is a lot like MLID but much worse, he does have legitimate sources but he interprets stuff wrong or is confused how things work. Like when he said next gen consoles will not use ERA app model, well they have not used that for over five years.Again, I was specifically referring to WC's reporting there.

Be honest, did you even consider the idea of MS dropping the online MP paywall before that WC article came out? Because you seem to miss the simple fact that it's the case due the concept of the next Xbox being literally just a PC.
Jez is clueless in terms of technical information. He is a lot like MLID but much worse, he does have legitimate sources but he interprets stuff wrong or is confused how things work. Like when he said next gen consoles will not use ERA app model, well they have not used that for over five years.
I gave you the words of the President of Xbox Sarah Bond, CEO of AMD Lisa Su, an official Xbox blog post, and the words of the MS CEO Nadella showing they are doing both Xbox PCs and Xbox Consoles.
If the Consoles are an open platform, it isn't a walled garden anymore. MS cannot allow Steam/Epic on the consoles and still be charging online paywall on the Xbox side. That will trigger massive backlash. MS is going full force with Cloud Gaming, online paywall they no longer need or care for. Think of Essential as the base tier of Xbox Cloud.
I have been saying over two years (on reddit) that online paywall should/will go away, soon as reports were incoming regarding Steam/Epic on consoles. I even mentioned it a day before that Jez article came out, just askTopher
I guess all Xbox games will have free multiplayer with this device. That's what I'm assuming anyway. Question becomes whether that is extended to all existing Xbox consoles. Possibly. In which case, T Tobimacoss would have been right about taking down the paywall.
Oh get fucked Push Square.as a console now four months into its lifespan — and will be at least two years old by the time the PS6 launches — the Switch 2 won't be seen as a direct competitor in the next-gen race.
No need for misleading horseshit though.nial its okay. This is one of those times where if you're a PS fan you sit back and let them say it. Loudly, and often.
that would be a PR disaster btw.
"hey! here are 2 systems, so on this one you can play online for free, and on this one you can't! and on this one GamePass will be much more expensive too because of that! but both of them are Xboxes guys!"
Why would a PR disaster stop them from doing that?
They've already upsold and conditioned most people to pay for extra and premium so it will be trivial to drop the paid online portion with little to no subscriber loss. They'll make essential a Humble Bundle Monthly style service where actually own/keep the 3 "free" monthly games. Extra will probably be discontinued to enable a soft price hike forcing most people into Premium.
Could be, could not be. The article is playing within the context of such report, and that's what I'm focusing on.Jez is clueless in terms of technical information. He is a lot like MLID but much worse, he does have legitimate sources but he interprets stuff wrong or is confused how things work.
Playstation is becoming more than arrogant.
It become a tyranny.
Series X has bigger SOC.$100 cheaper than Series X
So arrogant
The article is suggesting the Switch will not be the same generation as the new PlayStation, or a direct competitor..Nintendo gets the pass again
And Xbox will be a PC so
Mine is even more silent and cool, haven't turned it on in over a year. Real premium shit.Series X has bigger SOC.
Runs quiet and cool. Its more premium machine.
