Are you planning on going single console only next-gen?

i'll be getting the revolution on the launch day since it's cheap enough to take a chance on.

then a PS3 is a given but i'll wait for the first price cut. the PS2 didnt seem to have too many good games in it's first year so i expect the wait for PS3 to pay off.

"I am thinking that revolution is going to be a gimmick like DS"

i guess having a great lineup of games is considered a gimmick these days.

Nope. I'm gonna get a Rev, obviously for the Nintendo new goodness and VC. PS3, I can also not miss out on, since it's gonna have FF, DQ, MGS and the like. But I will buy it down the road when it's more affordable. Don't know about 360, but I might consider it since there's a few interesting games on it.

I have all three this gen.

My gamecube was a waste of money. Besides Resident Evil, I hardly ever used the thing. In the past four years, I think there were about four games that I turned that machine on for and played longer than 3-4 hours on.

Xbox was a great console, mostly because it had the most HDTV support, which was a big deal for me with multiplatform games. Also Ninja Gaiden was awesome.

PS2 was overall the most played console for me this gen, the only black marks being shitty image quality, especially on an HDTV, and the lack of 2D support since in Japan there are so many awesome shooters and side scrollers.

From what we know so far about next gen, I'm going to drop Nintendo - unless the hardware turns out more powerful than we thought (I'm done with 480 i/p. 720p at LEAST next gen) and the gimmicks result in some actual compelling content, and MS isn't really all that enticing to me either, with the current crap build quality, useless backwards compatibility, and nothing on the radar for the next 3-4 months that really suit my tastes (that I can't run on my PC anyway).

So right now it looks like PS3 only by default, until Sony either drops the ball somewhere (BC gets dropped or sucks, price is too high, shitty build quality) or MS or Nintendo manage to get some killer exclusives that I absolutely must have (first system to have Virtua Fighter 5 gets my money, first system to get Silent Hill next gen gets my money too).

I'll likely own all three at some point. I plan on getting a 360 within the next couple of weeks, if I can find one. Might get a Rev at launch if it has interesting games. The PS3 I will wait a year or two to get.

I plan on buying all three, Not becuase i am mde of cash or becuz i have that much time on my hands (when i reach my squadron i expect 10-12 hour workdays -_-), but becuase i refuse to do what i did this generation, and thats miss out.

I missed out on too TOO much in 2003-2004 cuz i only owned 1 respected console at the time and it sucked big time.

Ive learned from my mistakes and will be making early preperations to not have history repeat itself.

Since I am currently having a grand ol' time in the ONE CONSOLE PRESENT, I will definitely re-up for the ONE CONSOLE FUTURE. :D

I don't have the time/money to support two or three consoles next-gen, so I'm going to wait till the dust settles next-gen and own and support only one. Which console that is is still up in the air.

Anyone else planning on going single console only?

I also find myself with less time/money to support more than one console.

Since I play the Xbox the most now (I own all three) I am pretty much set on only getting a 360. I am just waiting for a price drop and later model systems that are less likely to run into problems.

Maybe, but unlikely....

PS3 definitely. I don't think its a stretch to say its >the< console to own.

Xbox360 I'm still debating getting one soon, heh. I don't know. Might depend on how my PC handles Oblivion. If not, Halo3 will probably sucker me in.

Revolution. Not interested. But that could change after seeing demonstrations.

Well so far I am definitely buying the Rev on launch. PS3 I'll also buy for sure, but not until I can spare some money for it...so that may be about 6 months to a year or so after launch.

And finally for 360 there are certainly games that i'm interested in like GoW, Too Human and Lost Odyssey, but for now getting it is up in the air...it's definitely my least wanted console but i'll no doubt get it when the time is right.

Revo it's a given, there would be too many fantastic games I'd miss otherwise. And I am really curious about the controller.

As a second console, I am leaning towards a PS3. It's going to have more variety in games, expecially japanese ones, and barring any Sony self-inflicted disaster it's going to be THE platform with the most developers'/publishers' support.

I will still keep the PC kicking around for flight sims (and sub sims).

360 now, Rev at launch, PS3... I dunno. I think I want one, but I really need to see more on the thing... hopefully when Sony shows it off in the coming month or two. I can't justify paying around 400-500 dollars just for MGS4 which as of now is the only thing that really interests me on it.

I don't know what I'll do. Money is awfully tight, and I change my mind every other day on how I plan to approch next gen.

The plan right now is to save for a Revolution, and stick with my PS2/XBOX/DS for back-up. But now my XBOX is taking the long slow shit-so I dunno what I'm gonna do. I could buy another one, but thats $150 that could go towards a 360. Of course there's no broadband in my area, so I can't download BC updates.

Maybe I'll just cry :(

Rev + PS3 for me.

but it doesn't mean I will get them at launch right away.
The 360 launch games are verry PC-ish, Xbox 1.5-ish. Whatever happened to killer apps? Don't need HD to play a freakin' game that is available on Xbox and PS2, looks like people are forgetting that next-gen is supposed to be about new games,, not current gen games being upgraded to HD.

Rev having a cheaper retail price makes it easy to say YES to it.

This gen I only had a cube but I lived with fellow students who had a PS2 and Xbox so I didn't miss out. Next gen it will be rev unless it somehow sucks ass, I don't really have time for anything else but maybe a PS3 down the line, definately not a 360 anyway.

P.S. In a house of 7 male students, the others being casuals, the cube was played the most, no joke.

I want to get two consoles (three would give me no time for life), and I imagine I would get the Revolution at or near launch, and as the only xbox360 game I wanted was Oblivion (pre-ordered on PC), I'll likely wait until halfway through 2007-2008 before buying another console. Price drops FTW :D

I owned all current gen consoles at some point, but at the moment i am only planning on getting the Revolution and the PS3. The 360 just doesn't interest me, especially because of the lacklustre support Microsoft gave the orinal xbox, and their basically dropping of any support for the system *far* too early.

Revolution will most likely be my first because of the price. I'll probably give in and buy a PS3 around MGS4's release regardless of how expensive it is. So, no, i will not be going one system only.

Can't live with just one console, though I know now I'll never get enough use from the PS3 and Revolution as I do my 360 but I can live with that.

XBox 360 is my primary console. PS3 for pretty much the SEGA exclusives, same with Nintendo but also add Nintendo franchises to the mix.

yea PS3 only. I am thinking that revolution is going to be a gimmick like DS... I have a DS since Nov 21, 2004 I havn't used it, its going on ebay tomorrow night!

But if revolution does somthing impressive then I might get it. Door is totally closed on 360 though untill very and I mean VERY stable revised hardware is out.

It's hardly the DS' fault you haven't picked up any of the absolutely amazing games that have been out for the DS since March.

Phoenix Wright, Trauma center, Kirby, Electroplankton, Jump Superstars, Bleach DS, Castlevania.

If you haven't used it, it's not because the DS is a gimmick. It's because you haven't bought anything.

Finally getting paid, so no, all three biggies, as close to launch as possible. The system exclusives are invariably the best games anyway, because they don't have to split focus.

I've always been a multi-console gamer so i'm definitely getting them all.
The only question is when I'll buy them. Like for this generation i bought the DC, PS2 and GCN a couple of months after launch, but didn't decide to buy an Xbox until i bought nice cheap games and yet, i still don't own an Xbox cause i'm not paying over $100 (sure ain't buying one used) for one. =\

For next gen I'm buying a Revolution at launch (probably) and a PS3 depending on the price (I want a cheap blu-ray players!). Xbox 360 I'll decide to get whenever they show off the Shadowrun game.

I waited quite a while for XBox last round. Not this time though, Geo Wars is worth $405 + tax on it's own. Pity nothing else is :( Got that Halo-Box feeling at the moment, although I'm sure something will turn up eventually.

I would love to be able to do that, but it's easier said than done. I have an insatiable gaming appetite. I simply have to play it all. I tried to be Gamecube only last gen at the start. Let's just say it didn't last long. I had thought of being X360 only after investing so much in getting the next ball rolling, but as much as I want to play Oblivion, GRAW, Double Agent, Ninety Nine Nights, Blue Dragon, etc. I just as badly want to play Metal Gear and Devil May Cry. I'm also of course eager to play whatever Nintendo cooks up. I'll end up with all three, bottomline.

i have never ever (well unless you count nes) gone 1 console only, maybe I waited a bit for the others to mature to get one (saturn, xbox, gc) but I always end up owning them all and especially true next gen for at least 2 (I own a 360, will definatly get a revolution and ps3).

Imo next gen is a multiconsole gen for gamers almost by default, ps3/360 for the reg stuff and a cheaper rev for the new type gameplay / and virtual console.

PS3 is a lock for MGS4 alone (but also for many, many other reasons).

Revolution is a lock for the classic Nintendo franchises.

Probably not on 360, but I bought an Xbox late, so it's hard to say at this point.

People who say they were a GC-only owner this gen baffle me. I have really had some great times on my Cube, but by not owning a PS2 you are really missing a large portion of the generation's highly-acclaimed titles.

I owned everything this gen except PSP. Started with Dreamcast, if you want to count that. Then I had a PS2. When my PS2 started to crap out with DRE's, I purchased an Xbox. Then, I bought a DS, which is also a GBA. I purchased a Gamecube 3 weeks ago mainly for RE4, Wind Waker, and Twilight Princess.

I'll probably get a 360 first next gen, then a Revolution when the most insane game comes out for it. Doubt i'll get into PS3, but then again at the beginning of last gen I said i'd never buy another handheld or a Gamecube and look where i'm at now :)

360 now...ps3 soon after launch...rev=no...not buying a last gen console this gen just because it has funky conrollers.

Luckily, I won the X360 in the Pepsi/Doritos contest. So it is currently my main gaming plaform.

I will definitely pick up the Rev if it comes in under $200. But, if there isn't a pretty big lineup of titles for th first 3 months or so, I might hold off.

The PS3 will be purchased when it gets to the $200 price point. By that point they'll almost assuredly have the GH lineup out there, and I can pick up some stuff on the cheap.

$200 or bust, I say.

i wound up getting a 360 so i'm off the ONE CONSOLE FUTURE bandwagon. no wai i'm passing on PS3.

rev? this is a thread about gaming consoles, not underpowered novelty hardware.

No.

PS3 for the best eastern games, Revo for the best Nintendo games and PC for the best western games.

I win :)

No X360? YOU LOSE SUCKA!

Noooooo, what happened to my Banned tag? I'm no longer part of the faux-banned group *sniff*

Will have a 360 as soon as I can find a premium pack on store shelves, PS3 not too sure, prolly a bit after launch... and Rev at launch.

I was single-console this gen and the GBA/DS more than made up for everything.
Which is just what happens, I guess, when 86% of the stuff I like consists of RPGs, adventure games, and 2D platformers.
So, yeah, single-console-only--that being the Rev, which will almost without a doubt see three to four times as many retro game downloads as new game purchases from me.

Yeah, and nearly all of them are in genres I couldn't care less about. Stealth action (MGS), 3D platformers (God of War), linear story-based RPGs (FFX), cheesy spinoff RPGs (FFX-2), realistic racing (Gran Turismo), realistic sports (Madden, etc.), lame non-realistic wrestling (Smackdown), sandbox gaming (GTA), and crazy genre-defying stuff (Katamari Damacy).
And, of course, sequels to games that others liked but I didn't, such as Suikoden 3 or Jak in any format. Literally the only things I feel like I'm missing by not having a PS2 are Dance Dance Revolution games and Star Ocean 3--and not even SO3 so much since I've heard it doesn't live up to SO2 (my second favorite game ever, I might add) and since I've heard the storyline spoiler.

I'm trying not to, but Sony never helps me. With the original Playstation it didn't get down cheap enough until the PS2 was right on the horizon and the SAME EXACT THING is happening with the PS2. Luckily I just got myself a PSone for free and my brother-in-law might be selling me his fat PS2.

So, I'm hoping for this scenario:

Revolution: launch
PS3: First price cut maybe?
