Are you planning on going single console only next-gen?

If Nintendo didn't exist, the the answer would be yes, planning on a single console would be easy. But for me I need my Nintendo fix and unfortunately, I can't really rely on Nintendo for all my gaming.

PS3 for sure. I'll either get a Rev or 360 later on. I'm leaning heavily towards the 360, but I'll wait to see what the Rev offers. I was technically single-platform this gen, though I owned both a PS2 and GC. But I only got the GC after the PS2 broke. I just don't have the time for more than one system at a time. PEACE.

Next gen starts in 2007 (for me anyway.) History shows that the games worth buying comes out way after release. I guess mgs4 late 2007. Same with re5. Another thing is all the great games that 2006 brings for this generation (Valkyrie Profile Silmeria, Shadow of the colossus (hey, I live in europe! :)), lots of cool PSP and DS titles, Kingdom Hearts II, Zelds TP, Final Fantasy, and so on...)).

I will buy PS3 and Revolution if the price is right. If 360 get full backing by the Eastern developers, I may buy it ( it will never happend :) )

I need more info on the Rev and ps3 to make this decision. I an surely only getting 2. GRAW and Oblivion make me want a 360 now, but i never buy a console so close to launch, i usually wait a year to let bugs get fixed.

REV
If that controller works great and is fun i'll get a rev, though i'm not too interested in the Nes, Snes and n64 games, i've been playing them via emulation on pc for years. I would like to try some gamecube games i missed. Love that it's wireless ouir of the box. Love that nintendo is always innovative and willing to try new types of games.

360
The 360 looks cool now that GRAw and oblivion are comming. What i don't like is that the 360 is fast becomming a FPS box. All the good games are fps, i see few attempts at originality. All the consoles are going to have tons of fps games, so i need MS to show some original games ASAP. Live arcade games don't interst me much, and i have every old arcade game on my pc already. Plus i'd have to buy the $100 360 wireless adapater or hack a router to get the damn thing online.

PS3
I know little of the ps3. I like that it's wireless out of the box, and it will play the huge backlog of ps2 games, and my collection old psone gems. Blue ray movies won't be a factor for me for years. What makes me optimistic about the system is that it will get all the mutiplatform games, great 1st party stuff, and many innovative games (katamari, SOTC).

360 has the majority of games i'm interested in + killer online + live arcade.
I might get a PS3 down the road much later. I do hope 360 becomes enough of a success that I won't need to though.

Since PS3 & X360 will be competing on the same-level, there is really no reason to buy both since it's most likely you will get the good games on either system. I'd imagine the playstation will have more exclusives than the xbox. This is kinda where the fanboyism take's over IMO.

REV does not seem to be competing directly to their two other counterparts. Alot of the titles are in-house exclusive & marketed to different gaming types than what you will see on the PS3 & X360.

360 is worth it for the online gaming goodness.

Consoles these days are pretty much semi-useless without a good online system. I hope Sony does the PS3 right this gen with a capable online system but until then the 360 will pretty much take care of that. (Also, there's no way I'm missing out on Halo 3.)

The PS3 is worth it for Blu Ray.

Until I can afforda dedicated Blu Ray player it will have to do. I'm sure that in the end it willl still get the majority of developer support but most of the major games will be multiplatform anyway.

Anyhow, one, the other, or both systems will deliver what I wanted this gen: High Definition, online gaming, and MCE features & compatibility.

You all can fight it out. Winner = me. :D

Im an Ntard, so Rev definately.

PS3 will come as well if I think the price is reasonable.

XBOX360... Dont know yet. Lets see what games will be devved for it.

there is always going to be something interesting on all machines, so if you have the cash, then it has to be all three
(X360: Halo 3 / PS3 : take your pick / Rev : pass, but i'm confindent someone will make something worthwhile)

Actually, perhaps for some budget may dictate the choice totally?

Remember Kojima's analogy about the next gen machines being like meals? What if he was making reference not just to quality , but to price and function?

PS3 : Feature ladden orgasm box , but pricey.
X360 : Games Console , mid range
Rev : Family Entertainment system. fun and low range

okay, thats how _i_ think it's going to pad out myself - i feel a disturbance in the force, and it's Sony going for the strategy of "people will pay more, because we're going to offer so much more" - and i don't expect the premium to be that much greater.

Win the battle with brand power + function. Make PS3 a premium product.

We shall see i guess. I'm all for it.

He made those comments around E3 didn't he? What are the chances that even Sony knew what the price would be then?

Have a 360 now, and plan on getting both PS3 and Revolution. Whichever one hits Japan first is what I get first, unless a US launch of either hits before any Japanese launch.

yeah, around E3. sony might have had a ball park figure - but perhaps Kojima was looking at what they were planning and came to the same conclusion as a few others : The price is going to be more than the X360 simply because there more to it.

whether that is misjudgement or not, we shall see.

saying all that, the configuration of the PS3 might well have been different back then too.

There are many ways to read into it, he could've just been referencing the cost of development. THe Rev has been seen as the cheapest to develop for and the PS3 as the most expensive if you're going for the high end of its capabilities. So you'll likely see more that can take advantage of what the Rev was built for compared to with the PS3 because of how expensive and time consuming it'll be to build something to take complete advantage of everything it can do. Most companies just don't have that kind of money. I mean even with it being CG you can look at the Killzone trailer and tell that's going to be an extremely expensive game to develop and will likely turn out to be one of the most expensive games ever produced. But then you ask yourself, how many devs will actually try something like that? Which the answer is not many.

If the 360's media streaming worked with XP i might be quicker to get one, but since i'm not upgrading my OS for a while, i'll wait to see what the ps3 will offer in terms of streaming.

Rev = Greatly dependant on E3 showing
I've gone from likely no to probably yes back to 50/50 either way. Nintendo's E3 showing is going to be a big factor for me, because I want to see where Nintendo wants to take this machine. I'm extremely skeptical about how well the controller will perform with some of my favorite genres sans gimmicks, and the 'FU technology' ideology from Nintendo with the machine is very disappointing. Yet, I've owned every single Nintendo system, and I may not be able to resist a new Mario and Zelda...

I am probably going to regret bringing it up but I found this really really funny.

Graphics power != technology.

I just find it funny that there are some people who think 'technology' is that simple. Pushing new innovative(hopefully) interfaces that have never been done before in the industry isn't 'technology'? Maybe you should clear up your statement so it makes more sense.

Oh but back on topic, I have decided lately that I will be picking up a Revolution on launch day. I previously was in the PS3 camp, but my lack of an HD tv has swayed me towards the revolution.

I plan on getting a PS3 later on, hopefully after I have the money for a decent HD tv.

Oh and I might even get a 360. I am in Japan now, so I am planning on picking one up in the summer right before I return home. The price is probably going to plummet and it is already a ridiculously good deal.

At the end of the generation, I anticipate owning all three consoles, but I will be a late bloomer for sure. The only one I'm not certain about is the 360, but Mistwalker will hopefully see to it that it becomes a must-buy.

Things like FFXII and Phantasy Star Universe should keep me occupied well into 2007 and the first price cuts. If I get a console sooner, it might be the Rev because of pricing and my controller curiosity.

If there's good games, I have time for them, and the console is < $250 and games < $30, I'll buy. I can afford to buy all at launch, with premium price tags, but I'd rather not.

At this stage its going to be PS3 only for me. The 360 may get a look in when Halo 3 is released. Revolution is not on the cards for me.

As much as I believe in the one-system future, I gotta agree that every system has its worth. I went from PS2 to GC, but I regret not getting to play Halo, especially since that was my most anticipated title (not called Gran Turismo) coming into last gen. I also wish I had a DC for Powerstone, IMO one of the best games this gen. But I probably wouldn't have been able to forgive myself for missing Wind Waker and Twilight Princess. PEACE.

Revolution and DS will be my two consoles of choice.

I'm just not interested in paying thousands of dollars with the other two machines.
For my 'cube I have over 50 games, at 50 bucks a pop. That alone is enough to fill me with despair when I really think about it. Next-Gen is going to be even more expensive.

The Rev will have all of my favorite franchises with some new ones, and the DS is on fire and doesn't show any signs of letting up. Not to mention downloadable retro games to fill in the periods of drought that plague all consoles. Also I'm betting my life that the DS and Rev will be able to function together. Oh yeah, there is also the Rev-mote, and other yet unannounced features.

Suffice to say, I think I'll get my moneys worth, without having to break my wallet every time I go to buy a game.

I'm not a hardcore gamer anymore, and once you appreciate the other things that go with life, gaming really isn't important on my agenda. I just don't have the time to invest in many games, especially single-player ones. I think one of the reasons I'm a bit jaded about games is because of all the games I have now (PS2+GC+XB). I'm going 360 only, just because the game I have to play in the future is Halo 3 on Live.

I always go with a single home game system per generation... give me my Mario and Zelda, and I'm a happy man.
