It didn't really make too much of a difference for PC life if it was left on 24/7 or turned off after each use. Now, of course these were, "off-the-shelf, non-overclocked" units. That lab was pretty interesting. Seeing the stress tests they did was pretty cool. I do think that start-up has to be hard on the HD. It sounds rough anyway.
