Area 51 Coming Soon...

Area 51 went gold for April 25th so it should be out mid-next week.

Anyone else looking forward to it? I think it will be a great PS2 addition so I don't have to pay for online. Looking forward to duel shotgunning some aliens... :) Think it will deliver?

played the demo and it was quite impressive for ps2 visuals. but then again -> the background sucks! why the hell, did midway choose their worse area51 game to make a remake???

Yeah the PS2 was quite impressive. I didn't get a chance to try the Xbox but I kind of want the free online from PS2 anyways. Ehh, might be a game time decision.

What do you mean the background sucks?

I really enjoyed both of the OXM demos.

I pre-ordered A51 yesterday. They have a pretty sweet deal going on at EB and GS. You get a copy of Midway Arcade Treasures 2 when you pre-order.

I think this game is going to be another sleeper like Psi-Ops. But, having the online multiplayer may give it good word of mouth. The real obsticle for A51 will be the Halo 2 maps that are being released on the same day as it's release.

Midway has been putting out some good stuff lately. I think Area 51 will be money well spent.

Yeah, Psi-ops was a lot of fun, except for the maze part.

Yeah, the multiplayer looks like a cool selling point with this game. Some of the alien guns are going to really change the strategy and the dynamic maps that change sizes are going to be a real nerve-wrecker for a while.

MAT2? Nice, you going for the Mortal Kombat??? :)

Midway Arcade Treasures 2 brings 20 of your all-time favorite classic arcade games back to next-generation consoles, many for the first time, including smash hits like Mortal Kombat II and 3, Spy Hunter 2, Gauntlet 2, NARC, Cyber-Ball 2072, Wizard of Wor, and many more! Get ready for a blast to the past as you enjoy 100's of hours of retro-gaming bliss and full-feature documentary extras on the origins of these interactive pioneers.

How can you go wrong? :D

I also pre-ordered
seems like a good deal when I get a game I wanted with it for free
Midway deserves some trust at this point, they've really pulled through the last year or so and put out some excellent games, at worst we'll have a game on par with psi-ops and that would be pretty nice

Sweet Console versions look awsome but since the PC version is coming out also... I'll be getting that, game looks impressive on consoles, with hi-res and a good video card this game = pure sex :D

Easy now EGM.... :)

Yeah, I saw that IGN review...looking pretty good. I expect that user reviews on like gamespot nad stuff wil be pushing the 9.0 barrier. I am really itching to try the multiplayer and see the way they work in the UFO and other conspiracy stories like the surprise at the end of the demo...heh.

teamxbox posted some impressions of the multiplayer.

Impressions and Video

Dynamically resizing maps depending upon how many players are connected.
12 Skins
5 game types
17 maps right out of the box
Lots of game customization

Sounds like a winner to me :)

from article: "Players will be able to choose between 2-16 players, as well as decide whether or not to enable/disable the gameÂ’s Auto Scale feature. This cool function will automatically adjust the playable area of any of the gameÂ’s maps according to the number of players at any given time. This helps keep a smaller game of 2-4 players from getting lost within a large scale map. This helps to keep all maps accessible for just about any game type. "

Looking forward to it. Thanx for the link. Thats the most in depth I have seen. Really does look like MP will be a hit.

Single player is a blast. Fun little bug hunt. Some nice "jumpy" moments. Fairly linear but well done. There's some nice narrative and cinematic aspects to it.

It has a Metroid Prime lite aspect of scanning certain items and areas. These unlock some information and videos which add to the conspiracy laden story. Some neat little films and files which allude to Illuminati/Alien conspiracies. Fun stuff.

Probably give multiplayer a shot tomorrow. The weapons and enemies are quite cool.

Well, I am psyched to see that they definitely improved from the demos. The game is a lot more fun than I even thought it was going to be (I was afraid to start on the demo level).

So far I have played for about 45 minutes. I have been able to dual-wield shotguns and rifles and blow many-a-aliens away with frag grenades (my personal favorite, well dual shotgun is great to, stops them dead in their tracks).

I can't remember but did they re-do the voice overs for the intro scene? I remember them being less polished nad more comical. Anyways, the cut scenes and story are worked into the game nicely so that it really draws you in.

Well, don't want to give to much away. Heh...anyone have trouble getting to the catwalk though? :)

What kind of enemies? Freakly aliens and monsters?

Republic Commando had lame enemies, giant flies and tin head robots.

after playing doom3 the graphics in this game were a bit of a turnoff for me at first but now im adjusted. pretty good game so far, im at the crane part
and now all my squadmates are dead
.

Woah...top pic, those two guns. Haven't seen those in the demo or the game yet. I want them.

The loads are really covered. I am surprised though that the reviews said the story is hard to follow. Its pretty straight forward to me. I reall ylike Powers Boothe being in it too...

Obviously I played more and I like that they make you crawl through vents nad find your way through rooms on the rafters, nice little addition along the lines of Half Life...

I've found the mutation to be more useful than reviewers give it credit for

when low on ammo you can mutate and blow jerks away, you can get slightly enhanced vision, and in multi it can be really damn fun to mutate and start bashing the shit out of people
