So I ordered one of these over a month ago:
http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=10359515&loc=101&sp=1

It ended up getting lost in the mail, confirmed by my local post office which according to the tracking information recieved it, but couldn't find it. Thanks USPS.

So before I can even file a lost claim report, I have to wait "x" amount of days until after the package has shipped, despite the fact that my post office told me they lost it, and to contact the company.

So I wait "x" amount of days, and ask for a replacement. I then realize the price has dropped $4, so why would I want a replacement, I should get a refund, and re-order it for $4 cheaper. So I send an E-Mail, and customer service says it'll be forwarded to claims.

Fast forward two weeks after my claim is submitted, and still nothing.

After much Googling, I find Buy.com's hidden 800 customer service number, and talk to some asshole outsourced in India who I can barely understand. He says he'll escalate my claim level.

The next day my claim is approved... for a replacement.

I call up again, and say I want a refund, not a replacement. They send a cancellation request to the warehouse for my order with a charge of 0.00, which made me weary that I'd be getting credited anyway if they weren't going to charge me when shipping it.

Now, I just got an E-Mail saying my order has shipped today, using the same method as before. They didn't feel like upgrading it to UPS or FedEx ground, despite the USPS losing this same package before.

Fucking retards. I should file a complaint against them too.

The best thing to do with buy.com is to calmly cancel the order you haven't received, or just return whatever it is they sent you that's either damaged, the wrong item, or shorted and ask them to just give you a refund.

They're shady, the lower prices aren't worth it, because you'll most likely have to deal with their customer support, or complete lack thereof. In fact, I'm RMAing something back to them this weekend, because it's just - again - easier than fighting with them over it.

I have only used them once, and had a bad experience with them. I had ordered Princess Mononoke from them, but I had just watched it at a friends house or something so it was a few months before I actually watched the dvd they sent me. Everything was fine, until one of the very last scenes of the movie where it just got really messed up, it was unwatchable. It was the scene where the blind boar is dying, which is a pretty big investment into the movie for such a crap payoff, I haven't used them since.

To be fair, as much bullshit as buy.com is, that's a problem with the DVD, not the company that sent it to you.

that sucks dude, though to be honest, I've ordered from buy.com for probably 5 years or more and I've never had any problems with them that I can remember...

great selection and price IMO...

Been about four years for me, no problems. Only thing that came close was when i ordered some PNY 512MB RAM sticks for $20. An obvious price glitch, but i thought i'd try it and see. i got an order confirmation, but never an email stating it was a price error. Went back to the page and the price was corrected. i'd called them on it, but i had far too many things to do at the time for it to matter. Besides, pricing errors that serious are a pain to resolve with etailers.

Except I'm not pirating things, so I don't need spindles. I need jewel cases so I can write what the backup or video I've taken is.

You need not be a pirate to purchase a spindle (although I imagine it helps go through them quicker). Most media tends to be ALOT cheaper in the long run when purchased through spindles. You can get 50 DVD-Rs for around 30 bucks these days through spindles. If you need the jewel cases, I can understand that, though you can usually load up on jewel cases pretty cheap at various places.
