This is what I just did yesterday. The game is optimized really badly, to get playable FPS I have to tamper with graphics settings, launch the no skybox client and use the resolution scaling slider.
I'm not going to play it very much until it gets some proper optimization.
I got a 4790K, 980 ti, 16 GB 1866 Mhz RAM and have the game installed on an SSD.

I turned it down to medium to run on my Titan X.
I get between 30-40 fps at 2560x1440.
Obviously this will improve as they focus more on optimization.
Their first big gpu optimization patch is supposed to drop today.
I'm having a good time with it and I don't really like the survival genre.. at least not the previous games I played in it. (The Forest, 7 Days to Die)

Not happy about the performance "optimisation" turning out to be a bunch of quality sliders to mess around with. Doesn't seem like they actually optimised anything, rather they just gave us new ways to make the game look crappier.
There's something fundamentally wrong with the way this game performs when my 4690K and 970 gets 30fps on the lowest settings and 30-40fps on high settings with a couple of tweaks.
Anyways the game is fun as fuck so I'm not really mad. Just bums me out that they are going the wrong way about the performance.

Here's what I'd do:
- Set resolution, full screen
- Drag resolution render bar to right max
- Uncheck all the check boxes in the bottom left
- Drag sky detail bar to max left
- Drag ground clutter detail to max left (so you can see stones better, little actual performance effect)
Most likely you'll get 30-40fps and from what I've understood that's pretty much all you can expect. You can fiddle around but don't expect miracles.

From the Steam servers list, you should be able to find it. Alternatively, you may be able to search for it from in game now (they added that feature, right?) Just search for NeoGaf.

Still can't find it with 4K servers in my list. typing gaf or neo shows no results (but search doesn't work for me anyways).
Is there an IP I can add?

Hey GAF! Been playing on the Gaf server for a few days now, I've never played a survival game. I absolutely love ARK!!! I'm also playing with the Oculus Rift. As everyone has been saying, the performance is crap, but honestly i dont get sick at all by the judder and find it still very immersive and playable.

Yeah despite the performance it isn't too bad in the Rift but I do have pretty good VR legs under me. The arms seem so small to me though lol

You can try adding "174.34.172.74:15467" to your favorites using the Steam server browser. It might say it isn't responding but try to connect anyways.

Connect connect to random official and unofficial servers just fine..even in russia with 600 ping!
But the one I want to connect to....I can't.
May ask for refund.

ya same here. I've been gaming in VR for 6 months, and Nvidia 3D vision for 5 years before that, so my eyes/brain are use to it and I never ever get headaches or feel sick. ever.
Screenshot dump time! Took some shots flying around. Its awesome how the world feels alive with dinos fighting each other. I watch a pack of raptors chase 2 boars off a waterfall. Land in the pool at the bottom and kill them on the beach. I also saw a spino take on 2 steggos and get wrecked by them.
Our base atm.
It's selling like donuts on a police station lunch break so I doubt it will. But on the other hand I'd wait because the game is only going to be better one week from now.

Doesn't happen at all to me, but you are in Germany right? IIRC anyway. It might have something to do with the euro servers if you are playing on one. You can always try the gaf server and see if it is any better for you.

that shit is terrible. Everyone i have seen rubberbands in the game at times. It sux when the dino's do it. You kill one then the next thing the corpse is across the river. I like when you kill a dino and his corpse just keeps moving like he's still alive, but he's dead. lol
This game was released even for early access about a month to early imo.

They really need to start implementing idle kick for official servers. AFKing to hold your spot is rude to those who want to play. Unless 10+ people with 20+ hour sessions is normal.
I'm curious if this got worse since the last few patches, or is something that gets worse when the server is getting more and more cluttered.
Maybe it's just me, but I didn't experience this at all when I first started playing, but lately it's getting ridiculous.
Probably same issue as DayZ when it was a mod. The server would start to massively lag after a few hours of being live with the loot just piling up and it caused admins to constantly reset servers every four to five hours.

What steam skin are you using to get that browser? Metro?

Did the same, tried for almost the entire 2 hours to get it running acceptably and just couldn't.
Yeah... It's a great concept for a game, but I suspect it will take a year or so for performance to be decent. For the person upthread who said they don't understand why they don't just fix performance - this game likely has many millions of lines of code already. Getting a fully multithreaded, multicore game working is a huge amount of work even for the biggest game studios, let alone early access startup people.

I can safely say this is the worst optimized game I have ever seen.

and when I run it at High settings I get 24 fps.
What a waste of money that was to buy on Summer Sale. The game needs serious work. Cool concept but its broken as hell
