A new trailer is up on YouTube for the standalone expansion to ARMA II, the 2009 GOTY and greatest military simulation FPS ever made.

Rock, Paper Shotgun has a nice write-up on the game (or is it a press release?)

http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2010/03/16/straight-true-arma-ii-op-arrowhead/#more-27090

Three years after the conflict in Chernarus, portrayed in the original ARMA 2, a new flashpoint in the Green Sea region heats up and coalition forces led by the US Army are sent to Takistan to quickly restore peace and prevent further civilian casualties.

The video showcases a selection of US Army content featured in ARMA 2: Operation Arrowhead and created in stunning detail. Near future American troops are equipped with the best weapon platforms, including modernized Abrams main battle tanks, AH-64 Apache gunships, fully playable M2A3 Bradley IFV which is a superb modern armored fighting vehicle that can transport troops whilst also offer effective covering fire, the versatile light attack helicopter MH-6 Little Bird as well as the eight wheel armored infantry vehicle Stryker in numerous variations. The video also contains the first official sneak-peek at the very popular and much anticipated modern FLIR system created with Bohemia’s precision to every detail including the full vehicle heating phase.

Soldiers carry an assortment of newly introduced Mk16 and Mk17 assault rifles, fitted with various optics and laser markers. The in-game American hardware is taking the signature ArmA 2 gameplay to new levels by offering the latest military technology: night-vision and most anticipated thermal imaging simulation, threat indication for crews and additional anti-missile countermeasures for aircraft. The player is also capable of controlling much improved UAV drones, including experimental AH-6X remotely controlled reconnaissance helicopter. On top of this, Alliance forces consisting of a brave Czech contingent of paratroopers and special forces (vehicles included) and German Special Force Commandos are ready to protect civilians and ruin the bad guys’ day.

Set in the new, visually attractive environment of hilly central Asia, Operation Arrowhead will offer a realistic combat simulation experience in a modern day setting with unprecedented freedom of movement, actions and tactics. Players will enlist into various roles within the US Army, from basic infantrymen, through special operatives, to pilots and tank crew in this new installment in the award winning line of military simulators for PC from Bohemia Interactive.

Featuring top hi-end military equipment, new units modeled with love and desire for stunning precision and realism ARMA 2: Operation Arrowhead will blur the lines between your comfortable chair and a first line war experience!

ARMA 2: Operation Arrowhead will be available in Q2 2010.

Loved the first game but I sure hope this one is more optimized and has less mission breaking glitches.
Yes, it very unfortunate that the first game had problems with glitches in the SP campaign for some people. I think patching fixed most of it.

Personally, given the highly ambitious nature of the game, I happily forgave them. Nothing else really offers an experience like ARMA II.

This is the EVE of shooters for me, I love watching videos and hearing peoples stories about the game, but I can never see myself actually getting into it.

Honestly, you deserve a kick to the loins if you buy this game for its single-player. Everyone even vaguely familiar with Bohemia Interactive knows, their campaigns and missions have always been a complete mess. Also, most 'bugs' have been present since the first Operation Flashpoint, so veteran players has gotten used to all the minor quirks.

This game is meant to be played online and for offline, you mess around with the editor either making your own scenarios or making missions for the online nights.

And any self-respecting ArmA II player uses ACE2 and GL4.

Is the SP in ARMA 2 as good as the on in the first Operation Flashpoint?
It was for me, but for some it was apparently glitchy and buggy. You can probably get the game for cheap now, so it may be worth a shot.

If you played OP: Flash you know what to expect but ARMA II tries to go way beyond that - mostly succesful as far as I am concerned.

Cool, I'll give it a shot.

Arma II is the only game in which I feel more badass walking slowly with my gun out doing nothing but chilling and not giving a fuck than being in an actual firefight (which are also very badass).

So I'm all for the future of badass gun strolling simulators. Very hyped for this.

Looks great.

First .gif looks like a GRAW CGI render if you ignore the guy on the right.

and I for one support this recent trend to make big .gifs. The bigger the better.

Arma II is great with large groups of people. Nothing like accidental friendly fire leading to the destruction of a couple tanks and said person being bitched out on voip. *Mission Restart* :lol

Yeah I tried the demo early but it was buggy as hell and I couldn't seem to do anything. It also seemed to run kinda crappy but I think that's because I set the draw distance to something ridiculous haha

I was extremely excited for Arma 2 and bought it the day it came out. I was disappointed with the quality and overall polish of the game. I'm gonna sit this one out unless they work out the problems online especially. Would be nice if they were able to put out a game that wasn't a buggy mess day one.

Just saw this:

Is this going to be the first ever OFP/ARMA game that doesn't have characters faces ripped straight from 1998 CGI? Awesome!

I might get interested for this when they make proper FPS view, smooth and good. Current one in Arma 2 is outdated and clunky as hell.
I know this is a sim, but they should make something to it. It's pretty hard to fight close-quarter combat or navigate inside a house with it, especially it's a third time they use it (Flashpoint, arma, arma 2)

It's really a lot easier than you make it sound. The thing is finding people to play with. Outside of coop, even with just one more person, it's only really good as a sandbox.

I heard the Arrowhead campaign should be decent, though.

Aren't the choppers in Arrowhead supposed to be a bit more simmy than usual? I remember hearing something about proper Shkval implementation (external camera for ATG target sighting).

Edit: saw the trailer. Looks great! Probably won't grab it day one, but maybe later this year.

I like the third person "first person" model, but unfortunately Arma's basic infantry movement is designed for open spaces, not CQB and building fighting. I want them to keep the "real" first person mode and just tighten it up, or even have an alternate movement model you can "activate" when precise movements are necessary vs. long treks in the open.

I really wish the weapons had a feel to them. That's what kinda killed it for me in ArmA 2. They felt weightless and not like an actual gun. Something that is pretty bad to have in a military sim.

:lol

Just reinstalled the game to see if patches have made it much better. What does it do when I play it vanilla on Win7-64? Fucking blue-screens me. Seriously, I thought those were gone!

Wow, it does look gorgeous. However, not having played any Arma game before, can I ask what separates this game from games like BFBC2 or Operation Flashpoint?

And please no PC-elitist bullshit comments, please (posts such as from LovingSteam). Thanks.

Game looks amazing :o

I am praying its well optimized, I would love to run the game maxed

The latest patch did some serious optimization, for me my overall frame rate was better, and the big city stuttery lag was completely gone. It was the state the game should have came out in tbh ;) They also removed the DRM i think so, win !

Nothing really separates it from Operation Flashpoint, this is the proper sequel from the same team.

It's most like Operation Flashpoint, only Op Flash is kinda like ArmA Arcade.

It's pretty hardcore. If I could find it for cheap, I'd be all over it. No, I couldn't get in on the euro D2D sale.

So where is ArmA 2 super cheap?

@Danne-Danger- Thanks mate.

@Kampsy- So many reviewers said that Op Flashpoint was one of the more realistic shooters out there. If that is like an Arcade version of Arma then I can't even imagine the gameplay mechanics that is involved to make the game an even more accurate sim!

I"m referring to the new Op Flash in that post, since I took it context with BC2 from the guy I quoted.

i really enjoyed the operation flashpoint dr singleplayer.

arma 2 singleplayer i wouldnt even bother, but the online community sounds scary. i guess making your own maps/scenarios might be fun?

bfbc2 is nothing like either, might as well compare them to mw2

oh and i dont think arcade is very fair on of:dr, even on normal difficulty its miles away from most fps games, and on the hardest i dont really see what seperates it from arma, except its way more singleplayer/story focussed.

I played quite alot of ArmA + expansions, online only though.

I never got the second one (lack of time I guess), but how is the performance, and the netcode?
