James Cameron already said he's gonna make another terminator after he gets the rights back in 2019. That's a really good idea about Arnold playing the person the Terminator is based on tho. They could have a young CG version of him cameo before they move onto another model played by another actor. I want Arnold but he's too old and they already used the Terminator getting old thing so it wouldn't be fresh to use again.

I think done correctly it can still work.

Having Arnie play a human who the T1000 is later based on would be the ideal option, maybe someone high up in Skynet or some shit.

Having him play another machine who for some reason ages would be going a bit OTT now.

Who even cares any more? Fuck it, get paid Arnold. Take them for as much money as possible.

I care. Terminator is one of my favourite movie series after Star Wars.

The fact they have squandered the potential of Terminator, Robocop, Alien and Predator franchises bothers me.

Since T6 will probably be made by James Cameron I hope he does a alternate sequel like they did with Superman Returns. it could pick up after 2. Maybe they could get the original cast back. I'd like to see Eddie Furlong get another chance to get his life together. Linda Hamilton can come back too. I hope they could work Micheal Beign in somehow. I'm sure they could work something out. Even if it'd have to be CG he could do the voice.
You shouldn't have bumped this thread. It's old and now people are going to think Arnold is involved with the new one.

Is it about how he goes. Ack in time to Terminate Trump?

I didn't think Genisys was that bad. I enjoyed it more than T3 and Salvation.

Genisys would have been infinitely better if they hadn't terribly miscast Sarah Conner and Kyle Reese. If you wanted an example of bad casting tearing down an otherwise passable movie, Genisys is it. I wanted to give them a chance, but I found myself actively disliking Sarah and Kyle. Both act like assholes with zero charisma and even less chemistry.

i think we need a Terminator Vs Robocop to make these series relevant again.

hey, it worked for Freddy and Jason!
Freddy Vs Jason is still the highest grossing installment of both of those franchises.

I just love the old classic ones and reject/ignore the new ones. It's going to take some seriously positive word of mouth to get me to see a new Terminator movie after the train wreck that was Genesys (luckily I seen it on a flight so they never got my money)

Terminator 1 and 2 are incredible films and classics and no amount of shitty cash grab sequels can take that away. They deserve better but we are probably are never going to get it so *shrugs*

I feel the same way about the Alien, Predator and robocop films.

The first ones are classics - the rest are shite.

We'd probably get old Arnold vs RebootCop though. The only version of this I'd ever except is T2 Era Arnold vs Peter Weller RoboCop. Because that era Arnold is the best and Peter Weller is still the only person who really nails the RoboCop role

Hopefully, he hands the terminating down to the next generation of terminators like Tfa instead of a feminist terminator reboot like answer the call.

I love Arnold but ugh, he's too old to play an action movie star :( You an make a cameo or whatever work with him, but they need to reboot the franchise to update the science and ideas for 2017. Genisys tried to straddle the tech update (skynet evolves from iPhones) but then muddled it all up with trying to make deep connections to the 1984 movie, and that just doesn't work.

Oh well, I guess after it fails yet again maybe they will finally let it sit for a few years and do a proper reboot.

His new drama/sad movie looks interesting, would be so much better if they can pull him into this kind of role in any Terminator reboots. Old guy who is Sarah Conner's dad, old guy who fights the AIs in the future and the machines use him as a template for the first terminator edition, etc.

welp. this totally kills any desire for that.

Freddy Vs Jason was fun because they still had the OG Freddy in the role and Jason was masked so it didn't really matter who played him.

now i wish the crossover had happened 2 decades ago.

Rest

All these years later I still chuckle at what a fucking moron that guy is.
Hadn't seen it, but I thought the new Terminator was actually pretty entertaining? Not "good", but a decent popcorn flick?
Newest one was a good movie, though is not related to the original two. Not entertaining, actually good. They managed emotional connections really well, had some good character development, did fun things with the Terminators, and had great action. There was some nonsensical time travel stuff, and the ending was a bit too happy for a Terminator movie, but it wasn't bad at all.

RoboCop vs Terminator made in 1993 off the heels of RoboCop 2 and Terminator 2 would have been amazing.

It also would have saved us from RoboCop 3 and maybe altered the future and spared us from Terminator 3 :(

Ugh, just stop ruining this once great franchise. It's so sad to see that the first 2 movies are classics and the 4 after that are just hot trash. It's been ruined, please stop.

I am a huge terminator fan. T3 was okay and I was not a huge fan of salivation. I want to like Terminator genisys but it was just a jumbled mess, not to mention I hated the casting of Jason Clarke as John Connor and Jai Courtney as Kyle Reese.

I just have no idea where they go from here. Every movie is worse than the previous one.

Agreed. I think I somehow trained myself to ignore any scenes they were speaking dialogue because they both made me cringe numerous times. That allowed me enjoy it a little more.

I couldn't get past how Genisys basically retconned the entire franchise to actually enjoy any of it. I was like "no, fuck you movie".

I enjoyed the last one but mostly out of nostalgia. It's not a good movie.

I don't know why with the millions of dollars in Hollywood they just can't get someone to write a good story for this thing. Last movie Arnold spent more time being a scientific genius and explaining time travel then actual terminating. Terminators themselves are still playing off ideas in T2 and almost nothing more. The "twist" last movie was revealed in the trailer and still not good. We don't need cg young Arnold anymore think of something else

Yes. It's too tethered to Arnold Schwartzeneggar when it should have adapted and moved on to other characters to move their story forward. Imagine if Planet of the Apes relied exclusively on Charleton Heston, or if Star Wars was adamant in sticking with the cast of the original trilogy.

I'm of the mind that believes that there's a rich enough backstory and mythos for the Terminator franchise to mine from that you could make a serviceable film without relying on the charm and nostalgia of Arnold.

This is painfully true. Especially when you look at T1, and to a lesser extent, T2. The great movies in the franchise didn't hinge on Arnold--Michael Biehn, Linda Hamilton, and Robert Patrick were also great to watch (I loved Edward Furlong too but I guess a lot of fans find his 90's persona to be so dated it's cringey). Arnold only has a few lines in the original movie; he's a force, not a character. A major plot point in the sequel is him learning to understand and value humanity.

The non-Cameron movies completely forgot all that shit. They just make him a wacky character in 3 and the entire nonsense of Genisys exists to keep an old man involved in the film. Yeah, Arnold was great, but he isn't the only great part about the Terminator series. The only way it'll ever have a chance again is to be put back in Cameron's hands (or at least someone who truly respects and understands his work) and for Arnold to be uninvolved. It's just too late for him now.
