But a loooonnggg time ago when I used to listen to Rebel FM, I was aware Arthur favored the X-Box.

I find myself disagreeing with a lot of what Arthur says (mostly on politics/religion/etc), but he's generally one of the most well-spoken individuals in the gaming press, and the writing quality of his articles and reviews is a cut above the competition. I don't see how he won't improve the quality of whichever company he lands at.

Back on point that would be quite a move up if he got a EIC job at Gamespot. I like his reviews but he doesn't stick out to me as worthy of a huge promotion over other people with seniority. Regardless good luck to him.

It's official. We're now at a point where the folks *leaving* GameSpot, IGN, etc., are folks that I've never even fucking heard of. And this is from someone who spent a decade reading those sites closely, back in the day.

Not that I have any love for IGN, but good. Ideally he would leave the games journalism business all together. Guy strongarmed his way onto RebelFM with a bunch of other proven podcast personalities and it became clear within about 3 episodes just why he had failed at making inroads into the games industry until then. Couldn't get his opinion out there without beating people over the head with it and shouting down others, constantly being the pretentious smug asshole know-it-all personality that you would never want on a podcast. It wasn't surprising when the other 1up remnants shortly got the fuck out of there.
Oh and as for the other poster claiming his morality-pushing shit is only on his personal twitter, that is incorrect. RFM was derailed more than a few times with his pseudo intellectual nonsense about not wanting to review certain games because of the writer's political leanings, or what words they can and can't say to not offend anyone. He was clearly being a wannabe Shawn Elliot from the get-go, trying to push 'deep' topics but when you have nothing interesting to say about them you end up just looking like a pretentious asshole try-hard.
Here is the infamous episode where Gies can't have a discussion like a normal person and caused a small internet uproar as people started to question who the fuck is this guy? His abrasive, discussion killing personality was a sign to me and many others to bail out.

I'm so far out of the IGN loop that I didn't even know he wrote for them, let alone was an editor.

he could be a bit grating on rebel fm which is part of why i stopped listening to it after a while, but i thought he was actually quite an interesting writer who was good at breaking down why things did and didn't work in games and was the only one at ign whose reviews i actively seeked out. i wish him luck with his new gig.
really not sure why people care so much about how he got into the business. i imagine establishing good contacts are how loads of people in the gaming press get in the door, people you like and dislike.
