Arthur Gies Leaves IGN

Reading this thread I think it's safe to assume that Steve Jobs resigned as CEO of apple to go to Giant Bomb.

Everybody is doing it.

The man didn't even know how the mobile side of his website worked. When I read his Deus Ex review via twitter, it started off by saying the score was a 9. Then it goes into a paragraph or 2 about the hype behind the game, and teasing if it lived up to the hype. I already saw that it was a 9. Your own damn website gave that secret away, but when he responds over twitter his answer is "Don't skip to the bottom of the review and read the score."

Another thing, what happened to loyalty? Companies aren't loyal to their employees, employees are not loyal to their company, but it's expected for a readership to be loyal to a writer? Where ever he goes, let it be obscurity.

Yes, she was an annoying happy drunkard on those, but she's a good writer.
She's also a fucking moron who played the female card when people hated her. "Oh you guys are only mad because I'm a woman in the industry!"

No, we dislike you because you're an obnoxious twat. Playing the sexism card made me hate her even more.

Yeah, same. It's infuriating when you can't communicate why something is bad. You don't only want people to know you disagree, you want them to know why you disagree.

She's was loathsome, and people only called her a bitch because she happened to be a female and it's an easy way of identifying someone when they are the only person of their sex there.

Notice no one ripped on the woman at the PAX panel, because she was awesome.

Carrie, and yes she is awesome. She was on the Gamespot podcasts/video productions for years and everyone loves her.

Because she knows how to act and is interesting to listen to, unlike Leigh.

Kollar still pops up on the Game Informer podcast every now and then. But yeah, they were a good podcasting duo.
Phil was the only reason I went to Game Informer, but he just seems not to be featured enough for me to become a regular. But I totally agree, lets get Nick and Phil together again!

Why does that seem like a lateral career move to a smaller gaming site? Why am I not seeing the reasoning for making such a jump? Am I just nuts?

Who knows. Better pay? Better working conditions?

Huh, well Joystiq could use some actual writing. I'm sure he'll help their podcast too, but to leave the IGN juggernaut for a blog is interesting.

From his original blog it seemed like he would be doing something different. Maybe he gets to work from home or something.

In other news Anthony was moved to IGN's PC site (from twitter). Wasn't he just moved to the mobile site a few months ago?

Rearranging deckchairs on the titanic if I've ever seen it

So it's Joystiq apparently:

Wouldnt have guessed that at all.

Wonder what was the reason was behind his move?

IGN has ALWAYS shuffled people around. Plus this fits Anthony anyways as he's always been one of the few more well known people who write in the industry that regularly plays and talks about PC games. Hell the reason most people know him is from the Brodeo which well was suppose to be a PC podcast among a shit ton of other things. LOL

I'm actually excited to have some new fresh blood covering PC games for a major gaming site that I know well likes playing PC stuff. We don't get many of those types of people these days.

Huh. I wasn't expecting that.

Still, good luck and best wishes, Arthur. Joystiq is one of the few gaming news sites that I read, so I look forward to reading your work there.

Problem is, all Anthony says these days is: "just buy an iPad". Seems like he lost interest in PC gaming over the last year or so.

You figure a company IGN that has been around for 12-13 years or so, there isn't always a lot of extra room at the top. If you want to chase exec-level status or attract a significant pay jump, it's a lot easier to let yourself get headhunted than it is doing really awesome at your current job and hope your boss either makes room for you or mysteriously falls off a cliff...

It's official. We're now at a point where the folks *leaving* GameSpot, IGN, etc., are folks that I've never even fucking heard of. And this is from someone who spent a decade reading those sites closely, back in the day.

Wait, are you talking about Ricardo at GameSpot? Ricardo WAS GameSpot.

Matt Chandronait is the Emperor and Anthony is Anakin

Don't give in to the dark side Chuff!

Probably couldn't take working for the man.

I get that, but previews editor at Joystiq isn't what I'd personally call a big step the corporate ladder from what he was doing at IGN.

On twitter it seems like a hatred of pant may be involved in his decision

Arthur discovered a pants free life? I hope Ryan doesn't leave giantbomb :(

What are you talking about? People don't leave GiantBomb.

I'm not defending her personality. Maybe she's the worst. I don't know. I missed her playing the female card in the aftermath of her Giant Bomb appearances, but I'll take your word for it. I still enjoy her writing.

HAHAHAHA no. I don't think you grasp how much traffic (and therefore money) IGN gets. They aren't going anywhere.

And it seems like Arthur is taking a downgrade in jobs. Maybe the pay is better? He'll be able to work from home at least.

Ah, I didn't see the role. Well then, maybe he has insider info about Joystiq's corporate retreat to Camp Soggycliffs...

If anything can tempt Ryan its working from home without pants or footpants

Let's be honest, there's nothing stopping Ryan from not wearing pants in the office. I've actually only seen Jeff wear pants a handful of times, and can genuinely say I've never seen Ryan wear pants.

I didn't mind Arthur at all. Sure, he is a little 360 biased, but is not totally idiotic fanboy-ish about it either. But yeah, he has a more abrupt way of forwarding his opinion onto others. He doesn't really sugarcoat it or say sorry, but on the other hand, he hasn't said MUCH to the point where I want to send him an angry e-mail.

I actually don't get those people who send RebelFM those nasty letters on a weekly basis.

BTW Arthur, good luck over at Joystiq. I felt bad visiting IGN just read your and Anthony's stuff... but still have to go there for Anthony. :(

Thank goodness he didn't go to Giant Bomb. I wasn't too concerned about that, though. It would've been an impossible fit. The GB guys all have a sense of humour, Arthur does not.

Well, now I'll just stop reading and listening to the Joystiq podcast. Not that I did either much anyway.

I didn't know who Arthur was before 6 months ago. IGN started that new 360 podcast and that was the first time I remember hearing of him. Like others, I did not care for his negative tone. IGN has never had a good Xbox 360 podcast and won't even with Arthur gone.

I don't mind him going to Joystiq. I quit listening to their podcast after they switched to the Joystiq Show. I listened to Rebel FM off and on when it first started quite a while ago. I knew he was involved with that recently as I'd see people retweet him when a new show was posted. That gauranteed I'd never try that show again.

IGN made a gamescoop podcast about hating IGN. They even complain about Stephen Totilo. Quite fun :)

I believe IGN is half good. Nintendo channel, TV, movies and tech fetish podcast are really good.

But the other half is the IGN imature, who gives low score for any games that don´t play like CoD or GoW.

IGN Nintendo used to be really good. If I click in there these days its either a top 25 list for a Nintendo platform or speculation about how Nintendo has to change to get with the times.

Anyone saying he'd be a great addition to the Joystiq podcast hasn't listened the show. Maybe some are familiar with and dislike the roundtable discussion Joystiq had in the past (which shocks me), but for the past couple of months, it's more of an editorial show now. The pick a topic and interview those in the know. So while Arthur may add something to the show, it's not exactly what you think it is.

I agree it seems odd. Pay must be better?
