Assassins Creed 3 PC performance thread

Fucking Ubisoft. Check out what my game looks like anytime I set AA as High. Hd7870 here

Also, what is a surefire way to find out what resolution my game is running at? As mentioned in the previous page, I can't even find the resolution option in the graphics menu :|

How do you think it'll go on

GTX 640
8gb ram
Intel Core i5-3330 3.0GHz

I know it'll run, but if I can't get higher end settings running at 60fps, I probably won't bother.

That pic looks awesome! Hope you get it fixed though.

my amazon.com order didnt go through so had to get it from gmg, paying more for it and waiting longer. god damn it. should unlock 9hrs from now

Does this game even exist as a digital download? Nothing on Steam, nor the usual alternative sources.

yeah, amazon, steam, gmg, gamersgate are all selling it

Not in the UK, I can assure you. And even though today is release day, it hasn't been available for pre-order at all either, as far as I can tell.

Is it just me, or does anyone else have like no options for customizing resolution, and features on the PC version in single player? I bought this off steam last night, and just booted it up, and it looks fine for the most part, but I don't think it's displaying at my right resolution in single player, because I got bars on the top and bottom. I can't find any options to change the resolution anywhere, and there's some screen tearing, so I'd like to tweak other settings too, but I can't find anything.

I can't remember the exact option menu names, but it really should be under "Options" or something similar in the main screen. It says something like "Tweak the Animus Settings" in the description, so that's what may be throwing you off? Once you are in there, there is a graphics setting where you can change everything.

Thats the thing, I've looked under every option. I get some basic stuff I can change, like texture quality, and AA setting. Nothing about resolution though.

There is an option to change this stuff in the multiplayer part of the game, but nothing in the single player. The multiplayer and single player resolution are not the same I can tell though. Single player has black bars on top and bottom, while multiplayer did not, and was displaying at 1920x1080 as it should

not just you- I posted in the previous page as well as this thread. Dropped UBI support a message- but I'm not optimistic about a useful response :(

I see. Thank you.

Why not just make an option to enable MSAA alone?

I don't want FXAA at all.

"lol gamers can't understand AA terms lets just call it Normal, High and Very High"

Seriously. My GPU is AMD, so it's either Very High or nothing. FXAA degrades IQ, don't know why people use it.

3930k @ 4.7GHz
16GB Ram
2 x 680 4GBs + latest drivers

Should be sufficient but I'm not even seeing a steady FPS outside of Boston, fluctuates between 50-60 as others have reported and Boston 40-60 as ... others have reported.

Definitely something that needs patching, rather than more power.

No way it's CPU limited, unless their engine is bad. I mean, per core CPU performance isn't going to go up massively with Haswell, and consoles will be like 25% as fast as Sandy per core.

Well I'm in the middle of sequence 2, and even though my CPU isn't that great, and the fact that I can't customize the resolution or much else, I am still impressed with how well it's running for me on my PC.

How are you all getting FPS on display?

I'm trying to use Radeon Pro, hotkeys do nothing. Using AC3SP.exe for profile.

Pretty sure it's shit right now for me. Like 20 fps with tearing and frame rate drops. Going to tweak stuff.

Settings:
1080p 120 Hz
Everything else maxed

PC:
i7 2600K @ 4.5 GHz
16 GB DDR 1600 Mhz
2x6950 2GB with crossfire enabled.
AMD 12.10 Driver

Some of it may be my GPUs getting weak, but surely I could optimize to at least 60 fps (and not console optimize)

20fps with tearing? Weird.

I'm running a worse setup and other than some parts in Boston, I'm always above 30fps. Zero tearing, too, which is really surprising to me because previous Assassin's Creed games on PC have always had horrible tearing issues even with V-sync on.

Settings: 1920x1200
Everything maxed, except with AA on "Normal"

PC:
i5 2500k @ 3.3 GHz
4GB DDR3 1600 Mhz
HD 5870 1GB
AMD 12.10 Driver

Well, it's inconsistent. Desmond outside at the beginning was really bad, then it was a bit better. I'm inside in the first sequence with a lot of NPCs and it's running closer the 45 I think.

Maybe CF is fucking stuff up. Not that I think I have a checkpoint I'm going to try stuff.

The game is heavily CPU limited so a CF could fuck things up.

Try to disable one of your GC.

Yep, I disabled crossfire and menus are buttery 120 fps, in game is 45-60 fps now.

I'll see if I can find a CF profile that improve things later on. I need to progress in the game first so I have appropriate environments to test.

Other than that, game looks really good. My memory is imperfect, but it seems like Uncharted 2 quality assets at 1080p with high IQ. Wonder if this is Ubi's first stab at what Xbox3 and PS4 are targeting. Otherwise they wouldn't have put this much work into it.

Heavily CPU limited, eh? May be time for me to overclock.

This might not be performance related, but is the multiplayer down for anyone else? It won't login to their servers at all.

Yes it's down.

blah, was looking forward to trying it out. this was the one thing that made me hesitate about the PC version...don't trust Ubi Soft to keep it running good. Not sure how the other PC AC games multiplayer was handled, but I really enjoyed Brotherhood's on xbox.

Yeah what's the deal here? When is it coming in the UK?

http://www.vg247.com/2012/11/22/far-cry-3-assassins-creed-3-not-on-steam-uk-ubi-in-talks-with-valve/

Ubi is in "discussions" with Valve right now. From the sounds of it, the UK won´t get Far Cry 3 on Steam either until the issues are resolved.

Played the game a bit earlier. Framerate was fine until I got to Boston, then it slowed down hard. Overclocking helped a little, but still not near 30 fps. Time to get a new CPU.

It's not because of that. Everyone is having problems. Let's just hope they fix it!

I had that issue when I was running with older drivers. I did a clean sweep and installed the newest drivers and it went away.

Performance is still far from stellar, but at least the game looks like it should.

I have a problem with steam and AC3 and I'm not sure where to post this. Move if needed.

All of Tuesday night I download AC3 on my PC. I close my computer for the night and when I open it up the following evening, it's gone!! I mean the game is still there, but it has to be completely re-downloaded. Anyone ever experienced that? All that wasted bandwidth. Is there anything I can do? I mean what I downloaded has to be somewhere on my PC!

Please help!

Is it on your library? Try to check the cache integrity.

A patch would be nice, but my CPU is over 4 years old at this point. While most games I played this year were fine on mid to high settings, I would certainly understand it if becomes an issue.

Cannot get RadeonPro or CCC to trigger. Stupid uPlay.

So I'm probably axing either environment quality or AA.

Update: AA Normal, Environment High, getting what seems to be 50-100 fps.

Game is pretty slick on
AA: Normal
Environmental Settings: High
Rest max

I read a benchmark posted somewhere showing that the game chokes a single core on your CPU with AA cranked. So fundamentally the game can only give a high framerate if you sacrifice AA. But I think it's worth it. Rock solid framerate, menus are snappy. load times instant. Definitely better looking than AC2 on PC by a good bit.
