Assassin's Creed "Parity": Unity is 900p/30fps on both PS4 & Xbox One

Epic.

The problem is nearly every time GAF or some other large group on the internet care about an issue - be it DRM, regional lockouts, parity - someone eventually comes along to tell us how irrelevant we all are and nothing will change because no one will notice. It's annoying.

Meanwhile, Vib Ribbon, never before released in America, is coming out TOMORROW because people raised a ruckus at Sony after E3. Making noise matters.

You do realize that Assassin's Creed tend to sell around 10 million copies. Even if every person on Gaf was a portion of that and decided not to buy a game, they would be losing like 2% of their sales at most. And obviously we care about this stuff a lot more here than the mainstream consumers do.

You do realize that it won't sell anywhere near that since it's only on the limited install bases of PS4 and XB1. Many casuals haven't upgraded to a current gen console yet. GAF makes up a more significant portion of that potential userbase than you think and word will spread around to other sites like IGN, Gamespot, etc. Ubisoft is already losing a lot of sales by not releasing this on last gen and a move like this can only HURT them.

..I can't believe they literally came out and said
"We purposely gimped the PS4 version to keep them the same"

I think I'm gonna boycot this just to not to encourage this type of thing.

Your saying purposely making your product inferior for 1 specific set of consumers to match another is not anti-consumerism? When they can release a better version for little to no extra work?

They are purposely downgrading... Sure why not have Radeon and Nvidia resolution + FPS parity because of stuff and debate....

What does anti-consumerism even mean? It's still a working product that just looks worse. It's not a consumer rights issue, just a bad choice, and a worse looking product than it could be. I totally get people not wanting to support a subpar effort. I wouldn't either based on this info, but it's different than selling a lemon.

AssCreed4 was 900p on PS4 when it launched, wasn't it? I thought it looked pretty good.

This situation is more troubling than sub-1080p on PS4, however. Please don't be the start of a trend.

I can't believe people actually care about this. If a few extra pixels suddenly makes a game less fun, that really says something about a person.

I don't think you really get what people are complaining about. The post below kind of addresses your "disbelief"

Imagine if iTunes still used 128kbps or whatever crappy bitrate for MP3s, and Amazon was at 256kbps. Now, suddenly, Music Label decided their music on Amazon was going to be 128kbps because they don't want to be part of the bitrate wars, making their music objectively worse for no actual benefit to anyone. You better believe fans would be pissed.

Have you not followed the DRM and loudness wars of music? Games are not the only area where people care about the quality of the content they consume, nor should people not "make a big deal" of it.

I can't believe people actually care about this. If a few extra pixels suddenly makes a game less fun, that really says something about a person.
right, than why did we bother buying new consoles if all we were getting were a few extra pixels, this isnt much about the resolution but about the practice ubisoft is laying for other devs to follow, why try harder to achieve better if people will buy regardless

Sony may as well stipulate on Xbox 1 games must run in black n white.

- MS throws money at Crystal dynamics for Tomb Raider
- MS introduces Xbox One's controversial indie "launch parity"
- MS Introduces FPS + resolution Parity across rival platforms

I for the most party do not care what MS do, when it effects their rivals by fighting dirty is guerrilla warfare.

Still blame Ubisoft for accepting their anti-consumerist practicing and dereliction of duty.

Sony upped the game though when the comarketing contract forbade Xbox from advertising it all together

Embarrassing and shameful.

I don't expect a lot from Ubisoft but that is sad, imagine telling the dev team. Shaking their heads in disbelief.

Microsoft, how low can you go, the shit on my shoe.

I wonder if anyone is going to be able to tie MS to directly asking for parity?

I still don't know why Ubi would ever come out with this information.

Maybe some dropped pre-orders will get some attention. Everyone here who is upset and has the game pre-ordered should drop their pre-order. Even if you still plan on buying the game. Money is the only thing that is going to get the suits attention.

Well shit, I guess we should just accept 240P gaming if that's what the devs choose to make right?
If its fun to play why should it matter? Are you saying that the SNES waas the worst system ever of all time because of its lack of D's?

right, than why did we bother buying new consoles if all we were getting were a few extra pixels, this isnt much about the resolution but about the practice ubisoft is laying for other devs to follow, why try harder to achieve better if people will buy regardless
So they can put more in games obviously. The better consoles allow things like better AI or more enemies. Not just D's

I can't believe people actually care about this. If a few extra pixels suddenly makes a game less fun, that really says something about a person.

Fun in this case is irrelevant as no one has played it. This is simply a backlash to a company making a product inferior on purpose.

It doesn't matter what console you own, this is wrong. You shouldn't lower the quality for one to be more in line with another version. I owned a PS3 last gen, if developers would have lowered the quality of 360 games to match some poorly made PS3 ports, I would have been disturbed.

Yeah i don't remember any of this parity nonsense with PS3 and 360.

Sony really should do something about this. Here they create a powerful platform for developers instead of TV BS and developers don't take advantage.

I can't believe the game will be 900p after the significant downgrades its gone through. It looks marginally better than AC4 at best.

Conspiracy theories and righteous indignation over how video games perform. Amazing and scary. Did you guys forget how previous generations worked when there were differences in capability or something?

So you're just a masochist then? What's the point of any of your posts? They don't lead to a deeper view on the topic at hand. They're just about your ego. No one cares.

Lol you seem to care. Sorry my opinion doesn't conform with yours, guess I'm not allowed a say in this thread then.

Oh good I'm glad you are still here. Don't have any fun video games to play? Instead like to read this "Whine thread"?
You got me, no more fun games left to play so I'm watching people freak out over pixels.

Are you guys seriously this upset and not buying it anymore because it's 900p instead of 1080p?

I wouldn't say I'm upset about it, but I don't support the idea of gimping PS4 versions of games to make up for the Xbox One being relatively underpowered. You better believe every game company is watching to see what happens so they can see if they can get away with it also.

Yeah I think they're gonna lose a lot of day one money. At least on the PS4 side. Well, from people who read this stuff and care about it...

I definitely will not be buying day one now. If every third party dev did this with every game it'd be insane. Don't do this crap. The people who prefer X1 are gonna play it on there anyway. They should know that their box isn't quite as strong as Sony's. Should just come to terms with that.
wtf? So you are saying that Xbox One owners are needing to come to terms that the X1 is weaker? WTF kind of bullshit is that. You make it sound like it is X1 owners fault this is happening.

Wow you're right, I hadn't realized that the overwhelming majority of people on Gaf had bought current gen consoles already. My mistake!

This is ridiculous. Just shameless to even admit it this way.

I hope other developers won't do the same.

shaking my fucking head

It'll be interesting if FarCry 4 also has forced parity since it doesn't have a Microsoft marketing deal behind it like Unity does.

Sony may as well stipulate on future marketing deals that Xbox 1 games must run in black n white.

- MS throws money at Crystal dynamics for Tomb Raider
- MS introduces Xbox One's controversial indie "launch parity"
- MS Introduces FPS + resolution Parity across rival platforms
This!
Absolutely ridiculous!
Whatever. They won't see my money. That's for sure.

I don't like this forced parity at all. It is not that hard to only show off one version of the game until release day, like other publishers do. That is preferable if they can't handle any debate.

PC version should be locked to 900p/30fps too with medium settings.

Ubi has the chance to stop this console v. master race video gaming civil war once and for all

Soon we will hear the people who only own Xbox say

'people need to calm, it's no big deal, get over youraelves"

Yet your system was not held back by this, you can't take the high road here, it doesn't work that way.

Pre-order dropped. This will be the first Creed game I do not pick up day one outside the first. Halo Master comes out the same day anyway, so my friend and I can coop those. I still plan on buying the game, but I will wait until it is cheap, or a patch comes out.

Are you guys seriously this upset and not buying it anymore because it's 900p instead of 1080p?

The issue is one platform is being purposefully and intentionally held back to the standard of another platform that's ~30-40% weaker, not the resolution itself.

Meanwhile, Vib Ribbon, never before released in America, is coming out TOMORROW because people raised a ruckus at Sony after E3. Making noise matters.

Yup, exactly.

LOL at the image, but the scenario described is possible. The game can be so cpu bound that it takes away time from the GPU so you end up with less time to handle graphics. This is basically what Mantle showed us, but to achieve higher framerates instead of resolution.

Exactly... even being CPU bound can have adverse affects on other components. It's not a cut and dry "I'm CPU bound, so I can run the game at 4k resolution". Being CPU bound can cause stalls in the data you try to feed the GPU. Bottlenecks can also shift between components so it's not 100% of a CPU issue
