Assassin's Creed: Revelations Review Thread

The bombs sounded like a stupid idea to me since the beginning.

If they keep the same setting for the next game I don't think they're going to be able to innovate enough gameplay-wise to keep it fresh. Hell, even if they change the setting, they're going to have to step up the variety in gameplay tactics that feel fresh and interesting, without being clunky, tacky, or useless.

I'd imagine there is some talk about the "same old engine", but in terms of things like animation, AC is still top tier, nothing has touched the game in that area, even with plenty of games trying to implement parkour/climbing mechanics.

I think this franchise would be about 10 times better if there was no "bigger picture, modern settings" bullshit. Just history.

Couldnt agree more. I despise playing as Desmond. So boring.

Hmm... how well did The Forgotten Sands do in sales? I really hope the sequel to '08 is still alive somewhere, in some design doc or concept artist's desk.

It's alive. It's on the DS, released some time ago. Read the wikipedia synopsis to see what happens to the Prince and Ellika.

I was kind of expect the law of diminishing returns to catch up with AC. I'm still down for another tour of Constantinople though.

I don't get why a great game + more of it but no real improvements gets battlefield/batman/uncharted almost 9s/10s but Assassin's Creed and Call of Duty 7s/8s.

Don't really care about reviews but find it interesting nonetheless. I'd play an Assassin's creed/COD/Uncharted campaign every year if I could.

Release dates :D

Wonder how it looks on PS3, AC2 looked like shit on PS3 with muddy looking faces, don't know if they improved it with brotherhood because i got that on 360 but would like to get this on PS3 if it isnt fucked over again.

Posted this in the OT but I am surprised at the difference of opinion in the Eurogamer and IGN reviews.

Not the best from Eurogamer:

Assassin's Creed: Revelations Review on Eurogamer :: 7/10

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-11-14-assassins-creed-revelations-review-review

If only the single-player game, which struggles to build momentum, were so well-considered. It's still fairly entertaining amid all its missteps, as the heart of Assassin's Creed perseveres to a degree. The disappointment is that Ubisoft is enamoured with its own glitter here, cramming Revelations so full of unnecessary adornments that there's not as much room for players to bring their own ingenuity and sense of adventure to the table.

Where Brotherhood enhanced the thrill of being Ezio Auditore, Revelations distracts from it. Ezio may look old, but it's the series itself that really shows its age.

Yet IGN says it's the best AC yet !?

Assassin's Creed: Revelations Review on IGN :: 8.5/10

http://uk.ps3.ign.com/articles/121/1212370p2.html

This is the best Assassin's Creed yet, even if that victory is claimed by an inch and not a mile. If you've been following the lives of Altair and Ezio this long, you owe it to yourself to see their last adventure.

The moral of this story; don't bother reading IGN.

Best part of ACB was the Desmond section at the end...one of the game's highlights at the very least. I enjoy talking to the team and see what they have to say about recent events, or just reading through e-mail. Of course that's gone in ACR now and replaced with some garbage "puzzling".

If you read ACR reviews like Gamespot's and Joystiq's you'll see complaints that new features like the first-person Desmond sections and the tower defense missions actively make the game worse. That's why it's going to score around 15 points less than Batman Arkham City.

There really is no need for more features in AC, all that needs to be done is improving them.

The BAM system in ACB, kill-streak, horse-based assassinations, etc., are all things that improve the game, and things that can be improved along with other things already present.

I don't want more features, I want the polished AC1 assassination setups, I want immersion and being able to hide anywhere using the environment itself, not just in a bunch of hay stacks.

This really is the best brand, it's very inspiring, and yet it's not focusing on its premise at all.

AC is about: assassinations and reliving historical eras. Period. That's all it needs to be, just like all Batman needs to be is about Batman and Gotham and that is working perfectly.

Of the few reviewers I trust/read I've seen people talk about how much of a copy cat shit show battlefields single player is, how the newest batman basically ruined the joker challenges by spamming them all over and having very few actual riddles it's not like they had all great additions.

Edit: I haven't played the newest AC and it may be the best game ever or a total pile of shit. Just find these things odd is all. Just another reason the only reviews I read are giantbomb/rebel fm people.

Man, big disappointment...I was already on the edge about buying this(never bought an AC game before, even though I love the series); this might get it down to a rental for me. They oughta think about giving AC III another year in the oven.

It just seems like the new stuff is not that engaging or worth while this time around. They hit a home run last time in brotherhood with the mutiplayer, 'tower heist' and brotherhood. Can't expect them to do that everytime.

Finishing Ezio story and having a new city to do shit in is more than enough. Hopefully the new stuff is not that bad for me.

I'm still early in the game, but so far it's not grabbing me like Brotherhood did. The controls feel slightly clunkier, the screen tear I think is slightly worse (360), and that tower defense mini game is pretty terrible. The graphics have seen a nice upgrade, but like I said earlier the screen tear seems worse. Istanbul looks great; much better than the previous settings, but overall everything feels very familiar. Haven't tried mp yet, so I can't comment on that, but overall from what I've played I can see this scoring lower than Brotherhood.

The reviews are a bit low but that's not a concern to me. I always love this series and played it with how I intented too, even if there were part of it they bored me or that I didn't really understood.

This feels like this is it once again, so really there's no concern : a good AC, with a great new setting, new gameplay elements and still tons of content but with a couple of flaws and a wacky story. Yeah, another Assassin's Creed, so another 40 hours of bliss ahead.

I actually quite liked the first person Desmond stuff. The puzzles were fun and I enjoyed that exploration of Desmond's past. I was ambivalent about the tower defense stuff, but if you're Johnny on the spot with heralds and messengers after you take back an assassin's den, you won't have to do it very often at all.
