Assassin's Creed Shadows 💮|OT|💮 Play Stealthy for Me |づ ╸ . •́ )メ

The game truly is stunning sometimes but goddam the voice acting and facial animations don't even seem up to ACRev standards at times.
Some cutscenes are fine but the majority do not add up with the graphics.
Please put the voice acting in japanese. Its so good.

Officially did all possible sidequests and everything, Plat, 100%. Amazing game.

With upcoming QOL, I really hope they add mastery setups to equipment loadouts. You get most out of those by min maxing, so while as cool as it sounds to have a decked out Yasuke archer as an option anytime, switching gear loadout means also manually reassigning 100+ mastery points or it doesn't make sense, aint nobody got time for that.

On that note, I have all legendary items in the game and did some experiments on level 60 builds, finding what I think is the most insanely overpowered Yasuke katana build possible. That is, as far as ignoring stuff you can buy in the animus store, tho I haven't seen anything there with a must have engraving. I really wonder where they go with this in the DLC, the new weapon for Naoe should be fun but what about our Slamurai?

I don't want to constantly look at the subtitles, though. It's the only reason I do not play in Japanese.
Well its either shit american voice acting with a fake japanese accent

Or put it on japanese

You can make the subs bigger if that helps.

No way im playing this again with shitty ass Ubisoft voice acting.

It happened... I got to the "looking forward to playing this game later" and "just a little bit more" phase. Didn't expect that a few months ago..

omg this game is so EXHAUSTING , played 8 hours but I can't anymore. Burnt out.

It's like ride your horse for like 5 minutes to reach a thing, then ride it for 5 minutes to reach another thing, rinse and repeat.

Pretty, but I expected something different.

This gets worse in Act II, typical AC padding where they send you all over the map for no real reason.

Doesn't help that the mission structure is always, always:

- go talk to someone
- they send you somewhere else (typically to the other side of the region)
- go do the thing (talk to someone, steal something, kill someone)
- Go back to the quest giver (now again on the other side of the region)

Can you imagine playing this without fast travel?

The quests are all terrible, just terrible. I'm having the most fun just casually exploring the map. I spent quite some time just traveling around lake Omi with no real goal in mind. Haven't done a main quest in days, I just don't care.

Don't get me started on the dumb climbing castles to unlock fast travel. It should just be that if you ride with your horse thru an area, some type of fast travel unlocks, that would make it less of a chore but I think I'm done with it. Will probably install again to check out the PSSR patch but more out of curiosity, not for wanting to play this game.

Half those fast-travel points are pretty useless as actual fast-travel points because you still have to make it out of the castle compound making the whole idea of fast-traveling moot. I basically only use them if I want to raid the base (again).

In fact, almost all viewpoint locations are quite bad as fast travel points, the houses are the most viable option (but they cost 800 bucks to unlock each, which is also not a great deal).

As with every Assassin's Creed, Shadows too has a lot of things that make me go "why did they do that?".

Don't you guys purchase little houses in every settlement? it's only 800 pennies each. It gives you the ability to fast travel to ground level.

Yep, the game looks incredible but the quest design is totally rote.

Playing this just after KCD2 is like going 10 years backwards, the difference in general game design, interest and writing is absolutely enormous.

Remember to cancel your Ubisoft + 😉👍🏻

Lol just rolled credits. That was random. Tbh i enjoyed the first 20 hours or so more than the second half. Game was beautiful, but the open world was lifeless, hard to navigate. Mission design was bad and boring. I feel like the personal story missions were the highlights and only that felt like real main missions. Really liked Yasukes story and his gameplay. Sadly the AC franchise is almost only AC in name nowadays. I want a lot more assassin/templar story in future titles and they desperately need to up their game in facial capture, VA and cutscene direction in the future. its not the xbox 360 era anymore. Overall i did enjoy it, but it had a lot of flaws and the beautiful graphics did the heavy lifting

This game has a decent amount going for it. I've decided that the open-word design is completely holding it back.

Not only is the open world not interesting enough to sustain the countless hours the player is asked to spend traversing it, but the resources going into it seem like a giant waste as well.

These companies can't keep putting out open-world games like this if the formula isn't going to evolve. The last instances I can remember of that are RDR2 or perhaps the nemesis system. This game design just doesn't impress anymore.

There is some good gameplay here. They really did manage to finally make the stealth reliable and satisfying. That's a big leap for the series. I don't want to spend 15 minutes riding on horseback between each segment though. And even if that weren't the issue, there isn't near enough level design variety to keep it interesting.

Presentation is also great, I'd like to give that a shout out as well. I just love the lighting and how it affects the color of everything. The change in seasons is pretty well implemented. The music is great imo.

I guess with a project this big in scope you are likely to end up with a mixed bag, which is what we have here. I just really feel like it crumbles under the weight, unfortunately.

You have not played KCD2 have you ?

But I 100% agree on what you say about Shadows unfortunately

Interestingly enough the open world is literally the only thing that keeps the game going for me.

It is just an amazing feeling going through a mountain pass and ending up in some valley with huge rice fields or whatever and some shacks and seeing a small town in the distance, birds taking off in the fields, leaves and petals flying through the air while wind waves the grass. Visually the game is just endlessly rewarding just by moving through the world.

Infiltrating a castle as a shinobi feels super cool, even though at this point I figured out the AI strengths and weaknesses and it's getting more and more easy to just bruteforce the mechanics.

The story and presentation take a catastrophic nosedive after Act I, the combat is subpar and ridiculously barebones, and the gear/loot is not remotely interesting enough to carry the game. I'm having the best time just going through the world, running into people, towns and situations organically instead of following quest markers.

This game is both extremely next gen and two generations behind.

This guy is a treasure. Love his videos.

He is always on point

Edit: Guys, please play in japanese. Seriously.

The voice acting is a million times better than English. Lip sync is also pretty great and much better than Tsushima.

The voice actress for Naoe in Enlgish makes my ears bleed, sounds so horrible.

I cant overstate this enough

Both of the main characters sound terrible. I have changed the game to Japanese since the first cutscene and never looked back.

I believe people complaining about the script/dialogue are mostly negative about it due to the voice acting. Its nothing Oscar worthy, but in japanese its more than good enough so far.

When I listened to both characters in English when watching reviews of the game, I couldnt cringe harder.

Haven't been around much because I've been busy playing Shadows. Judging by my stats page, I'd say I got my $17.99 worth of value out of my one month Ubisoft+ subscription.

I don't really have a lot to say except I think Shadows is the second best of the post-RPG shift Assassin's Creed, just behind Odyssey. Towards the end of playing I kinda hit the Ubisoft Wall where I was just over doing a lot of the repetitious side stuff like Horse Archery, Shrines, Kata, et cetera.

Anyone else having issues with the legendary Sumi-e giving proper credit? I have the artwork for all 5 in my base management but the achievement tracker is stuck at 80% (missing 1). I don't think it ever properly registered the Red Crane, and now that I've cycled into Spring again, I'm not gonna sit here for hours waiting to try again. 😐

50 hrs and still finding new places that I am in just in awe of with atmosphere and visuals. The game is just insane graphically.

Wait...Does the Rin romance really blue-balls you like that??? She says she will wait for you at the hut and then she isn't there and you just never see her again? :(

This is what happens when a game made by 10 studios. Act 1 was great i agree and the cool moments after that literally disappeared.

Indeed. And that's how most open world games should be played in my opinion.

I'm just running around doing, stuff, and I believe that eventually the main story will organically resolve itself.

...But if I'm getting tired of the game before it's over, who cares, I'll just watch the ending on youtube and move on.

Pretty much agree with everything you said, especially about the story. It ain't great. AC has always been that way for me. The story is just kind of "there" and the world around it is what is entertaining. Combat is way behind GoT, imo, which is a disappointment as I typically enjoy AC combat more than I do here. I google what the best gear is in the game and found it. I'm just upgrading it rather than having to switch out every time something shiny comes along as it just isn't that great. But the stealth is fantastic as always so I'm enjoying playing primarily as Naoe and taking out as many enemies silently as I can. Yasuke is pretty much a side character for me at this point.

Have you seen the letter? She dumps you claiming she knows you fucked another. You could've walked away from that fling with mr Flambo my dude

You know what? I'll give it a try later tonight. Maybe the vibe will kick in a little more.

It's didn't really bother me in the last few titles but the characters feeling this weightless and floaty doesn't feel right. Would have much rather they had a good amount of weight to them.

So, this game kind of backfired most negativity. Great to see Ubisoft delivering a fantastic game. They deserve all the rewards.

We need more good games. Not less. So, we need Ubisoft.

Playing this game really makes me feel like they deeply wanted to deliver that "AC set in Japan" game. It's rough around the edges and has its problems, but they knocked it out of the park overall. 70 hours in and counting!

I feel like this is the first next gen game I've played.

On pc it's breathtaking.

I was taking out a small encampment and it started raining and thunder/lightning. It was bonkers. The entire screen was full of effects. Incredible.

the safehouse or whatever its called is so laggy on my series x
Same. It isn't like that anywhere else in the game though, which is so very odd. But the hideout runs like complete ass, and now that I have it fully built up with pets and trees, buildings and people, it often is a slideshow. I had to move the forge to an isolated corner so I could get to it easier.

Heres the thing, Ubi don't make bad games, they make very bloated and formulaic games. I still have SW Outlaws to play and I already know what I'm getting into, and I like these games

Yep. For me, these games are just stupid fun.

problem with latest Assassin's Creed games is usually the pacing
the game just gives you full control of what you can do, and most people don't know what to do and chase after quest markers, eventually getting bored

the correct way to play would be to plan ahead, take notes of what you have in the way, don't go to a place just because the quest requests it. go there organically (as someone else said).

I enjoyed ac valhalla much more that way and I also enjoy ac shadows similarly.

making routes and ignoring quests that send you to other regions is great. eventually those quests that send you to the other region will pile up, and when you eventually go there, you will do them all at once instead of fast travelling all over the place all the time
