ATi's Ruby demo on xbox 360

Fallen Xbot (cannot continue gaining levels in this class)
afaik, this hasnt been shown yet... cant imagine why, its fucking stunning. said to be on beta hardware as well :)

the first clip is from the start of the demo

the second clip is about 30 seconds after the first ended

then the third shows the demo in a few freeze frames with the camera being manipulated by one of the ATi guys with a 360 controller. also, a wireframe of one scene :D

i zipped all three, its about 40 megs.

i got quite a bit of footage of various other stuff, so hopefully i can contact BlimBlim to host some. any requests for friday?

oh, i also have a trailer for what looks like the 360 burnout :O

downloading now..

you mean full auto? or burnout for real? I want to see!

well, it was in ea's booth, with all the other 360 demos. it wasnt labeled as 360, but obviously looked like a 360 title (and not quite cg). i'll try and throw that up tonight too.

Find out what you can about a force feedback wheel for x360.

will do. i'm actually going to see if i can meet up with the head of MS studios racing division tomorrow. maybe i can get a peak at pgr 3 *crosses fingers

Dude, I was there too, but my crappy digicam footage was too grainy.

I was yapping with the ATI guys about that demo, and I found out that:

A) it's an actual 360 hardware running the demo, and
B) It's actually a Ruby demo originally made for the R520 PC card that they had to quickly port within the last month to run on the X360. This means that the demo does not take advantage of the Xeno's unified shader the EDRAM architecture (for instance, missing AA done by the EDRAM) and is not even scratching the surface of what Xenos can do.

I asked the EA guys manning the 360 NFS game demo and he said they are definitely implimenting drivers for the Logitech FF wheel.

i didnt know #2, thats cool. i did ask if it was the same hardware as the other games on alpha kits, and he said that the gpu running the demo was "near final"

Hey op ivy, what format are these in? they won't play for me.

Oh, and some footage of Alan Wake (ATI booth) and The Godfather (EA booth) would be nice tomorrow. I didn't have the patience to wait in line for those.

Very cool. ATI and MS should've had that running at the PC...doh. Anyway, so the early form of the Xenos chipset was running it, but still using the alpha kit's dual G5 CPU, I'm assuming, right? I figure it would have to be since the CPU end sounds as if it still hasn't been finished yet...

He told me it's very close to the final clock speed.

i'll try to get that footage, and the file format is whatever my ycamera spit out. maybe blim could reincode?

Very, very cool.

2 chicks fighting, reminds me of that UE3 for the PS3 demo (2 guys fighting).

They even stop the camera to rotate around the Ruby - just like in that PS3 tech demo :lol

With stuff like this it just makes the MS presentation more confusing. They REALLY REALLY wanted people to know about the new xbox live/home entertainment server features. Because of that focus some just are just assuming the hardware is crap.

HOTTTTTT! :D :D :D :D :D :D

Now if they could get Forza BC working and get a patch for the DFP...(head would explode).

Isn't the Ruby demo the one made for the R420(X800)?

I'll help you out by like blocking their view to you recording and shit like that. :lol

Holy FUCK that was awesome. that looked like fucking CG. It blows the old Raven-Robot CG they used to hype Xbox1, AWAY. I think Xbox 360 is going to be able to keep up with PS3 :D :D

Thanks, opy. I personally like the underpromise overdeliver approach. What framerate is that demo running at?

Maybe they can rerender the old Raven demo and say "This time we mean it."

30. I asked them about that and that's when they mentioned that the code for the demo is tailored for R520 and not Xenos.

Thanks, too bad things just don't work, so much optimizing. I certainly hope they'll be able to deliver 60fps games this gen. I can't tell the difference but it would certainly save alot of bitchin on this board.

They probably just didn't have the time. By the time they made the first 360 it was probably too late.

They said the last month was crazy because of porting that demo from scratch and getting the final kit ready.

That looked quite nice. Different from the other ATI ruby demo I saw a few months back. I think she was going after some diamond if I can recall.

holy f***
Why on earth didn't they show stuff like this at the conference ?? Dumb M$...

And i'm aware this is a tech demo but this is more or less what i expected from next gen games, not those slightly-better-looking-than-current-gen things we were shown.
I expected DOA4 to look pretty much like this, for example...

Are the dev kits really THIS underpowered ?

For both questions the answer is yes. :P

Expect to see HUGE upgrades on games within the last couple of months prior to launch. Hectic, but its the price they have to pay to be ahead of the tech curve. (this is exactly how Xbox 1 was built and launched so I'm sure they know what they're doing). Can't wait!

Too bad people will call it damage control considering who I am, but yes, the alpha kits are *THAT* underpowered. The 30% number is not something MS implanted in the borgs minds of all developers at E3.

That looks really nice! MS really should not have shown off the games that they did. Most of the playable stuff looked very "this gen" and should never have been viewable by the public. I guess they felt they had no choice with the system launching this fall, though.

ATI makes kickass demos, and I love the ruby ones. This one is no exception- hope its downloadable for pc soon.

Does this mean that most games will look much better at launch?

That's pretty impressive, I'd say it matches up with the FF7 tech demo pretty well. MS really should have shown some of this stuff.
