Everything i hear about this game sounds cool, but being both the sniper elite devs and seeing the gameplay, i just don't know if it's actually cool.

Like in theory the whole idea of discovery being like a puzzle sounds great, but the combat looks jank and I'm seeing far too many zoom in prattling conversations to feel it would be any fun.

The devs literally showed the game where you don't have map markers or a precise mission and combat is not the main appeal, how the fuck is sniper elite similar when it is a game based on fixed objectives, focused on combat, no role playing like killing important npcs or trusting someone instead of someone else, no survival elements and a truckload of map markers for every objective or side objective?

I don't remember anything about no map markers in Atomfall.. Are you sure youre not thinking of Hell is Us? I know that has zero map markers.

I only played Sniper Elite 5, but it seemed like the game has hardly any weapons. and you can't even carry multiple rifles or handguns. you drop what you are carrying to pick up something else.

I don't think it's that far fetched tho even tho it's a service provided by MS. It reminds me of how basically the music industry is pretty much gone with Spotify, Amazon music etc... It simply doesn't help the artists the way it did when people had to buy the albums.

Same with movies and how it all works now can't remember the actor but they were saying how they could take more chances back then because you had the theater money but then the physical releases were the gravy, which I know is a little different but with how all these streaming services work I don't think it's ultimately good for the industry. Same goes for game pass, I just don't think at the end of the day it's a good thing for studios directly. I personally will pay for my games, I want to help studios out as much as possible to keep making games we love. But that's just me.

You have a large selection of weapons and explosives/traps and a lot of ammo, also weapon personalization.

Atomfall seems to be about old, rusty weapons with a couple of bullets, you probably can find a rusty sniper aswell, but not multiple models with differenf stats, no realistic sniping model that calculate wind etc. nor weapon personalization.

They said multiple times that you don't have indications where to go and that you can feel lost because there are not map markers, and if there are map markers there are like very broad and you still have to explore to find what you are searching for.

I think i heard a review that said that he had latitude and longitude of a place from a note and he had to find it with these coordinates, it doesn't sound like classic map markers to me.

They got paid for the deal, they will probably get further residuals based on activity, the money they got helped the development of the game, as have so many previous cases.

Exactly. There are some cases where Microsoft may approach the studio about it, but it's almost always the other way around. Regardless, it's a decision made by the studio and if they want to partake. Studios can easily tell Microsoft no as much as they can tell them yes.

I really don't get where the whole, "GAME PASS IS THE ENEMY" mindset is coming from. It's pretty silly.

Again, just so it's loud and clear, if you think renting games vs paying for games is NOT contributing to the downfall of the Xbox console then I don't know what to tell you.

They're going 3rd party cause they decided to stick with keeping their 1st party games on Gamepass day and fucking date. They assumed it would boost Gamepass numbers. It did not. They now NEED to get SALES on PlayStation and PC and soon Switch 2 to recoup the loses from not making money from game rentals.

You can do what you want with your money. I wanted to see Xbox remain around for a very long time. Unfortunately fools decided that renting games as opposed to buying games was the best way to go about things. It was not. Again, you do what you think is right but Xbox consoles will soon be a thing no more and Gamepass is a major contributing factor to that happening. And we all have Uncle Phil to thank for that. Deciding to go that route in order to beat Sony. Now he needs Sony to survive. Pathetic.

And as for people paying for an early access game. Yes, they are PAYING for a game where those funds go straight to the devs. It's not going to a subscription owner (in Gamepass' case Microsoft) but instead where the dev will get the vast majority of the money from a sale.

In regards to Atomfall, maybe the money was too good from Microsoft to pass up. I'm sure they were thinking that they may as well take the rental service money as they sure as fuck won't get sales from the Xbox consoles, thanks to Microsoft training their bunnies to NOT buy games. Here's hoping plenty of people on Steam and PlayStation buy this game so the devs see some success and maybe fund a sequel…

Again, one should buy games if they want to own them. Not to keep xbox consoles into existence.

If MS wants to de-emphasise their console, I don't see that as a problem. Current console model has gone way too long. Its time to introduce something premium and exciting instead of a budget box.

Not saying it's a bad thing at all. But I'm less inclined to support any company over my own bank account. Game developers included. If it's on Gamepass I'll take advantage of it there.

Rebellion is quietly keeping the ship upright with this release. Some OG consistency from waaaay back when. Wish their peers were in equally good shape. 25+ years of making super solid AA+ shooters while having artistic continuity throughout.
