BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- Multiple rounds hit a dining hall at a U.S. military base near Mosul on Tuesday, killing 22 people, including U.S. troops, members of the Iraqi national guard, and Iraqi civilians, Pentagon officials said.

Fifty-one people were wounded in the incident -- which occurred at noon (4 a.m. ET) as people ate lunch at Forward Operating Base Marez, the officials said.

No other details on the attack were immediately available......

But we're going to have elections in January!!!11!!

It doesn't matter that we can't defend our own troops let alone some random polling place, PROCEED.

what a chicken shit tactic. I remember this happening after the first gulf conflict, when a SCUD landed in the dining hall right before Saddam basically gave up occupation.

Don't be ignorant and turn this into some stupid theoretical argument that neither side can prove. How the fuck should I know? He made a comment I answered. I did not vote for Bush.. I have no idea what the hell would have happened if Kerry were elected.

Please travel in to an alternate reality, return and tell me.

BTW if you get stuck there and don't make it back, I'll manage.

And I'm still working on determining how long people should be banned. I know it seems like a "harmless" joke to some of you out there, but when you have friends who are serving in the hotspots right now and have taken fire and have been sent home injured, it's anything but harmless.

I hear ya... I remember during the Gulf War I was sitting at home in Albany, NY waking up each day and watching ESPN all day... then I'd get letters from friends over there... food sucked, morale sucked, shells flying overhead all night, they felt miserable...forgotten... made we want to rip my heart out....

Would let Tony Parker sleep with his wife
meanwhile in Tikrit..

From WWE.com:

OUTSIDE TIKRIT, Iraq – Mick Foley was eating breakfast with Big Show, Charlie Haas, Eddie Guerrero and some others at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Paliwoda last week, when he heard a loud explosion.

“We were assured by one of the officers that it was outgoing,” said Foley, in Iraq with a team of WWE Superstars for a holiday SmackDown! broadcast.“ A moment later, we heard another explosion. That was incoming. Soldiers went scrambling around for their (bulletproof) jackets and helmets, and we did, too.

“And through it all, Big Show continued to eat his corn pops.”

It’s a frightening story – but one not nearly as unnerving as a conversation I had with Luther Reigns about his visits to U.S. military bases around this war-torn nation.

“If I was 20 years old, I’d join the military,” he claimed.“ It’s a license to kickbutt legally, and that’s what I like to do.”

Honestly, I wasn’t too shocked by this comment; Luther’s known to utter things like that. It’s this next exchange that gave me pause for thought.

“Did you fire any guns while you were here?”

“No,” Luther responded, smiling demonically. “Heidenreich did.”

It’s been a busy week for the SmackDown!” crew. Days before the show, the Superstars landed in Iraq, and splintered into groups, visiting troops in various locations. I ended up here, just miles from Saddam Hussein’s hometown, at FOB Speicher – site of the program. A few hours later, I heard some Christmas carols emanating from a recreation hall.

I walked in to see former WWE Tag Team Champions Kenzo Suzuki and Rene Dupree among a group singing “God Bless Ye Merry Gentlemen.” Suzuki struggled with a word sheet, while Dupree was holding a candy cane and smiling.

Senior Airman Lawrence O’Neill, 21, of Wayland, MI, could use the holiday cheer. When he embarked on his first mission on Sept. 16, he immediately came under fire on the road back from Mosul.

“I aimed towards some buildings, like I knew where it was coming from, and the shooting stopped,” he recounts. “Ten minutes later, we got hit with an IED (improvised explosive device) rolled up in a tube. A piece of shrapnel actually landed in the truck with me. I picked it up, and have it in my room.

“Then, when we got back to the base, we got mortared. That was my first day.”

While the majority of the troops I’ve encountered are committed to the U.S. effort in Iraq, I also came across a few who’ve grown to question their government. Army Specialist Jim Hrehowsik isn’t one of them.

“I don’t see this as a war,” the 27-year-old native of Sewaren, NJ, told me while displaying his “girlfriend,” Becky – an M-249 that fires between 700 and 1,000 shots per minute.“ I see this as rebuilding a country.”

To show his confidence, he pulled a freshly minted Iraqi “dinar” from his pocket. “Look,” he continued, “I’m collecting dinars. Right now, eight dinars equals one penny. But I expect the value to go up – and to become a very wealthy man.”

He also has another strategy for Thursday’s SmackDown! show. When his commander carries the Delta Company 701st Main Support Battalion flag towards the ring – as part of the pre-match ceremonies – Hrehowsik intends to make his move.

“When the unit’s all around him, I’m breaking away,” he promised, “and getting myself aplace in the front row.”

first of all. my comment was directed at him. not you. second of all im not a bush supporter at all.. but im definitely realistic. with Kerry in power.. we would still be in Iraq. he never said we were going to completely pull out once he was elected. its not a theoretical argument when the man said it himself.

Yeah because it wouldn't have been news if just 22 non Americans died. Anyhow where are all the sarcastic, "OH MY GOD PEOPLE DIED IN A WARZONE!!!!" comments. It sucksthey died be they American soldiers or not but that's what you get when you unlawfully invade and occupy a foreign country. You think the Brazillian army is worried that a bomb will go off while they eat dinner, or Sweden, or Canadia?

Well I'm probably going to join the guy you banned but such is life. If you banned him for the joke then I guess it's your right. If you banned him because of the sentiment behind it then that's fucked up. I honestly don't feel sorry for these guys that got blew up. I mean it sucks and I wish noone had to die but they are occupiers in a foreign land and you have to expect this type of thing. Had these guys been sitting in Ft. Hood or Camp Pennington and they got blew up I would be like that's fucked, but as others that support this invasion has said on many occasions someone has posted an article about an Iraq getting killed, "OH MY GOD SOMEONE DIED IN A WARZONE!!!!!" Goodbye and I will see you when I see you. :D

I leaving because I'm getting banned not because I think I said anything stupid, I don't think I need a break. As for comparing US soliders to Nazi and Soviet, if they all three walk like a duck, quack like a duck and shit like a duck thne they are all ducks. I love my Dad and wouldn't compare him to Charles Masion, but if he got a group of people together and did a home invasion and killed a lady and ripped baby out of her stomach, then he's a sick bastard. Just because he's my Dad doesn't make him immune to right and wrong. The Soviets were invaded a foreign country unlawfully and got smacked the fiuck upside the head. Good maybe it taught them a lesson. The same with the Nazis. Maybe after this, I doubt it, the Us will say, "Hey WTF are we here getting killed for. We don't need to be here lets get the fuck out."

Look, I would like for us not to have invaded, and I do hope that the neocons learn something about not going to war without proper and lawful reasons, and when its right. I hope they learn about planning for the worst, and not bullshitting the nation for political reasons. I hope they get defeated in the mid term and the presidential elections.

Election = civil war

Many prominent Sunni leaders are advocating boycott. The Kurds are being opportunists and trying to milk as much autonomy and oil revenues as possible. Shiites are attempting reverse the Sunni-dominated power hierarchy that's been in place since the 18th century. No way in hell Sunnis will stand for that shit, and neither group will stand for the Kurds slipping away. Guess whose the unlucky bitch caught in the middle?

No but, the chance of us magically getting some aid would have increased and the US taxpayer wouldn't have to magically come up with the fucking funds to pay for this bullshit or do you think that the money that we need to pay for this comes from God.

I think you are absolutely right on the money, about both those comments. This administration acts (and so do all those fuckers with those 'support our troops' ribbon-stickers on their cars) as if they are right behind the troops, but they aren't, and that's more apparent than ever. If people REALLY supported the troops, they'd send over some bullet proof vests or donate some money to the struggling families stateside with relatives in the service, not put up some tacky bumper stick on their cars.

Besides, driving a huge Ford truck that gets 5 miles to the gallon is supporting Halliburton more than anybody else.. but right on, let's support the troops!

Turkey is going to LOVE that. This is a no-win situation.

Do you really think the fact that Turkey wouldn't like it would stop it from happening? Seeing as how the US is the only superpower at the moment... add to the fact that Turkey didn't exactly jump up for joy when the US originally decided to go to war, and I could easily see Bush flying there, backhanding them and telling them tough shit, but we're giving some of your land to the kurds. More than anything I'm certain that's why Turkey is trying to get into the EU right now... so they'll have more leverage. They know whats up, Iraq is going to fall apart again, and we'll be forced to redraw Englands boundries so that they make more sense.

Well, Turkey already has plenty of leverage because it is a NATO country and USA wouldn't like them to leave NATO or deny access to their airbases. But who knows...

Yeah, that's true, but then again, the US has already pretty much screwed up relationships with some other NATO nations over this deal.

I don't see why not. They use to be three provinces anyway -- Baghdad, Mosul, and Basra. Fuck, bring back the Georgian mamluks and let them rule over Iraq. But Kurdish autonomy, no, I think their oppression will continue until the end of time.

Most of the soldiers in the war support Bush, as pre-election polls testified to. This is another sad but unavoidable tragedy in a war waged by an administration dripping with mendacity and greed. As long as the war continues to mask their true aim -- the confiscation of iraqi oil -- Bush and Co. will shamelessly prosecute a war that sees young Americans die everyday. Think of the thousands upon thousands of innocents killed in the ongoing assault on Fallujah. The right-wing media focuses on this while ignoring that slaughter.

How am I being a dick? I'm just stating it as it is. If you get killed in the proces of doing something wrong I have no sympathy for you. Be you a robber in the act of counting your spoils, or a rapist running from the scene of his crime or a soldier in an occupying army on foreign soil having dinner. I doubt anyone would shed a tear for the first two people either yet it's a tragedy if the soldier gets it, unless that is they are from another country then it's ok. As far as the neocons are concerned all they have learned, as if they didn't know all ready, is that you can wrap up any old shit in the flag and claim that mysterious boogie men are on the way to take it from us, shove it in the electorates face and they will eat it and ask for seconds. As for the mid terms get ready for a greater Republican lead. The Democrats are dead and the Republican will keep them around just enough so that a real second party doesn't form and challenge their rule.

I don't think it's that simple man. Yes I too sometimes think that Nazis and USA have many in common. And yes I like it when the US morale goes down. But being happy for soldiers killed? That's another story. Most of them don't want to be there, many of them hate what they're doing, but all of them are forced to be there and do the things they do. Watch Fahreneit 9/11. Most of these people are themselves victims of the capitalistic system and because of their poverty they are forced to "join" the army and serve this system. It's an endless circle in which the soldiers are only the puppets. Now if the white house or one of these bastards who run USA with their money got bombed I would be the first to celebrate.

Exactly, you're a dick.

Look, I feel sorry for some kid who joined the army because his parents raised him that way, or he wants to go to college, or he was inspired by the horrific acts of 9/11 to join the military to fight for what he or she was told was patriotism and for the protection of his country, only to be sent to a hell hole where the people that were supposed to be cheering want the kid killed, and that the country proved to be of no threat to the US whatsoever.

So, do I feel sympathy for a US soldier, yes, do I feel sympathy for Iraqi civilians, yes. Have I ever supported this war, no.

In conclusion, you're a dick.

Well Nazi soldiers were also going to war because they were misinformed, or they were forced to, or out of blind patriotism. I don't see many people defending them though. Things are very complicated. And don't ask me what my point is, I have no idea. This world is a shithole.

Actually I defended the american soldiers a couple of posts above. And don't forget it's really hard not to hate american soldiers if you live in Europe. Here we get interviews from soldiers saying things like "I shoot him on the head and fell like a rock" while smiling or Iraqi children crying while soldiers are invading their houses in weekly basis. Anyway if you had read my previous posts you'd understand that I'm not happy something like this happened.
