A new poster for the two live-action films based on the Attack on Titan manga debuted on Saturday. The poster unveils the live-action version of the story's iconic colossal Titan, and teases its massive size.

Hajime Isayama's original manga (pictured right) depicts the battles between humans and the giants who now rule the world outside humans' walled enclaves. An archetypal colossal Titan in the manga and the television anime was about 60 meters (about 200 feet) tall. However, the live-action films' colossal Titan is 120 meters (about 400 feet or 30 stories) tall — towering over even the 108-meter (350-foot) height of the tallest movie Godzilla ever, the monster from Garth Edwards and Legendary Pictures' Godzilla film this year.

The live-action Attack on Titan films do not employ just CG, but also tokusatsu (special-effects) techniques to create its realistic colossal Titan.

The taglines for the poster read:

The world is cruel.

Creator Hajime Isayama x Director Shinji Higuchi x Special Effects Director Katsuro Onoue

Attack on Summer 2015.

Kinda dig it.

The mix between CGI and 'real' special effects sounds very interesting and looked alright in the car ad.

Super intrigued as to how they'll re-create the titans. Hoping they don't fuck it up with lame as hell cheap CGI.

Anyone know the budget for this?

I hope this eventually leads to an Evangelion Live Action... coz you'll see the same basic gory stuff, but with modern day mecha...

What should I dive into? The Manga or the Anime? I've been curious about this story for a while.

Probably manga, since anime only has one season and S2 won't start until 2016.

Live-action movie will have very little to do with the source material. So you don't need to know anything about the series, if you only want to see the live action movie when it's released.

I can't say anything about the manga, but I'm a person who doesn't watch a lot of anime and I wound up marathoning this one. The main character is a whiny git though.

I laughed my ass off when he got chomped. He deserved it. He got a lot of others chomped too because of his self centered assholishness.

I'm sure this will not be good, but that's a great poster.

Manga is further in, but I feel the anime is the only way to go, since the entire thing is the 3D maneuver gear that has some rad animation that takes all of the budget, it's worth it for those moments alone, since the manga doesn't really do those scenes justice.

Why? Most anime adaptations are dreadful. And everything from the casting to the new charcters sounds awful so far.

... Why do I have to have a reason for that? I can't just be optimistic for the sake of being so? I thought the Rurouni Kenshin movie would be hot garbage, and I enjoyed it quite a bit. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The thing that I'm worried about is that Japanese CG in films is always 15 years behind the stuff Hollywood produces.

Sure, whatever you want to be. Was just kind of curious, as most Live action adaptations are usually awful. And everything we know about this movie so far is bad. Was kind of surprised someone was optimistic. Was just wondering why.

EDIT: What I mean, I was just curious if you liked the director, or there was some other reason. But if you are just optimistic for no reason specific. That's cool.

The Rurouni Kenshin movie was a different beast, the cast fit the characters because... Japan and it didn't need to rely on special effects unlike this movie where the cast doesn't look like the original characters at all and are also way older too.

This is going to be a big turd, you can be an optimists be the signs are on the wall for this one.

Interesting. Really liked the anime a lot. Has Japan done a lot of anime to live action movies before? I can't recall any.

I'm not saying that because I think he's good, I'm saying that because he's every generic anime protagonist. I just don't see why he'd be singled out when he's the same as most of them.

Honestly that's true, there's just something I can't really put my finger on that makes me hate him more than most. Maybe it's all the weaboo love for him or something, not sure.
