I think it's less depressing than Kitoh's work purely based on the fact a bittersweet ending is still possible.

Oh that's cool, I do hope they'll aim for that kind of ending because the way I see it the world in AoT is very depressing as it is.



On a side note I knew there was something off whenever Eren yells, as I just found out after looking at ANN, its the same guy who did Shu from GC, but based on the 1st ep. I have high expectations for Eren.

I was happy with how the first episode turned out. Araki's involvement with the show worried me, but the first episode was at least a good debut. The strength of the source material should help keep this show going.

Watched the first elisode and realized how dead on the description was while watching the opening. Good show, shame it's not picked up by crunchyroll. Reminded me slightly of Gantz final phase with the giants, but it seems to have much more depth so far. I can only imagine the original writer thought up the premise in an alcohol induced dream.

I want more.

Only drawback is that the episode ended too soon.

I just finished the first episode:

This first episode gave me a very heavy Berserk vibe, in its tone and its setting. I really love this first episode. I am not too surprised, since I am a big fan of the director's other work, High School of the Dead. I somewhat want to move on and read the manga, but I am going to resist that urge and continue to watch the anime. I have been looking for a new spring show, and this has entered my list for the season.

...Let's hope this doesn't become another Guilty Crown.

The worst thing about the writing is how he puts together the story honestly. It just uses convoluted fast-foward + flashback techniques which only serve to make certain events more "shocking" than they actually are, but without any benefit to actual narrative flow. It's a cheap technique which the author recycles over and over, and it becomes more laughable when he decides to reveal something surprising in every other chapter and does so in really stupid ways.

You'll be happy to know duckroll is somewhat in the minority, at least in manga-gaf. Not to say you won't share his opinion, but plenty of people are still very intrigued by what is currently going on.

I've known about the manga for quite a while now and have been meaning to read it after all the hype. After seeing this first episode, I'm definitely going to get right on that. I thought it was pretty good, really love the thick lines in the art and the action looked well animated. Looking forward to see more.

You really got the feel or sense of dread and hopelessness from the atmosphere and hearing that it subverts some shonen tropes definitely has me excited.

Manga is like 43 chapters, and ep1 takes part of first two. So, i guess if they make it without fillers and water, then it'll be probably 1 season for all chapters.

Thanks. Should probably get back to reading it, checked where I stopped reading it which was at chapter 31 last year. Just 12 chapters since then, one month of waiting is painful :/

I disagree though. I still really like the story, and I 'enjoy' reading it. The only annoyance would be the pacing, which, coupled with the fact that it's (bi?)monthly, makes it a little frustrating sometimes. I don't think that'll be a problem in the anime though.

I'm guessing they'll end it at right about chapter 34, assuming they don't take the original ending route.

Well it's not like Araki wrote the manga. Yasuko Kobayashi seems to be pretty good at writing adaptations, and apparently Isayama has some input on the anime as well, so I imagine it will be fairly faithful to the manga. Whether that's a good thing or not is for you to decide.
