ive always just plugged headphones into my usb. never listened to anything for example dolby, dts. so i havent been blown away from sound clarity ever.

Ok. Well, you got the answer to your initial question.

To make a decision on what you want to do you need to go out and listen to the best. When you have listened to the best then you will know what you want. So please go to though music hifi stores and take on all those demo products and, while you at it, those home theatre sound rooms. I mentioned what type to make sure you must check out because, ultimately, if you do not know what the best sounds like then you will never truly know what you want.

I did get full surround but to be sure I set MPC to bitstream and exclusive. I'm out of my element here so if I did something wrong let me know. Still, after turning on those options the demos still worked fine and I could hear sound coming through each channel.

As for the links it was just a Dolby TrueHD sports demo and a DTS-HD terminator 2 demo.

My receiver displays the exact firmware shown here.

Nvidia driver is 375.63

EDIT: Man, I'm sorry about hijacking your thread.

So how is your progress now? Did you manage to get it working after adjusting the color space and other settings?

I've been out of it but yeah, nothing. No change.

I'm thinking it would be easier for me to get a souncard and just leave my PC connected directly my TV and a soundcard to my receiver.

That sounds somewhat a good idea. Sorry to hear that nothing worked after all the numerous ideas and suggestions myself and others thought of. It's really bizarre that nothing worked but it does sound like the issue is from the Amp's end.

For now, just connect your Optical cable from your PC to your Amplifier and the HDMI from your PC to your TV. Make sure you adjust the sound devices default to the Optical output and your PC see all the audio features that an Optical cable offers/restricts you. Unfortunately, you will not be able to get very high bandwidth sound or even Dolby TrueHD nor DTS MA sound, however, as you do not watch any movies via your PC anyway and most - if not all - games do not feature HD quality level sound let alone uncompressed sound, you will not be missing out anything anyway. Plus, it is very difficult to hear the difference between 320kps 24-bits MP3 and Uncompressed WAV/PCM/DTS HD via a really good amp let alone playing a game that may utilise such high-quality sound samples (which they don't).

So yes, the above is indeed the best course of action for now so you won't need a new Sound Card. However, you will need to purchase a sound card for sure if your machine doesn't have an Optical Output. My only hope is that there won't be any sound lag caused by your amp but I seriously doubt that would happen, especially in consideration that your amp is recent.

Yeah, no lossless would bum me out. I guess I can go grab an optical cable.

Would you have any recommendation for a soundcard? Last time I actually bought one was three PC builds ago.

You need a sound card that got HDMI output and can deliver Dolby True HD and DTS MA bit-streaming and encoding. The thing is, these cards mostly play video & Audio so I am not 100% sure that you can assign your video to come out your graphics card while your audio specifically comes out from the HDMI Sound card that is also capable of displaying video. Frankly, I can't see why not but I've never tried it before. I took a quick browse and the one that I found the most suitable for your setup is the one below but note this, it's expensive:

Most other cards are analogue output soundcard, which is not what you want. Even when I looked at the best soundcards of 2016, all that came up were analogue cards.

I believe without the above method, there is no way for you to experience Uncompressed Sound, Lossy DTS MA or even Dolby True HD in any way unless you sell your Amplifier and buy something else, or you somehow figure out how to get the 4K and Sound working via your Amp.

I hope that makes sense?

Btw - Titanfall and GTA V use uncompressed audio PCM. So i think you should also look at your speakers to see if its good to showcase your pcm sound.

What speakers are you using for your 5.1 setup? Can you provide the models and pics?
