Audiophiles: Computer Speakers/Headphones Suggestions

Query #1 - Computer Speakers:

Lightning hit my house about 2 months ago and fried my Creative Inspire T2900 2.1 Computer Speakers. I liked them alot when they were still functional, but it's time for me to replace them. I'm looking at the Logitech Z-2300 2.1 Computer Speakers since I recently started working at Staples and I can get a good price on them. The feedback I've read about them around the web seems to be good as well. Are they a good choice, or should I be looking elsewhere?

NOTE: One feature I really liked about the T2900 (and that the Z-2300 has) is that they have a seperate "console" that can be used to turn the speakers on and off, as well as manipulate the volume and has a headphone jack. Very useful.

Query #2 - Earbud Headphones:

Unrelated to the lightning, when recently vacationing in Europe my Creative Zen Xtra Earbuds decided to break. I can currently still used them, but only the left bud, which sucks for several reasons (cord length of the left bud is 1/3rd of the right, the right bud literally has it's wires showing and most of all, because I'm deaf in my left ear). I would like a high quality replacement for them, preferably in the sub $100 range (CND). Please, no full blown "headphone" suggestions, for as I previously mentioned, I'm deaf in my left ear and prefer to use only 1 bud. In-canal earbuds are OK.

Thanks for the help in advance guys, I appreciate it.

Well, as far as speakers go... if you have enough space - use your stereo. Seriously.

5.1 for the PC is kinda overrated IMO, unless you watch lots of movies on it, but even then... to me it's still kinda ridiculous.

But if you have a stereo with 50W or better speakers, and an adapter that goes from your aux out to the PC (sold for like $3-5 at stores such as Best Buy or Circuit City), you've solved that problem.

I don't have 5.1, but two 100W speakers do the job well enough for me.

Then again, if you want surround, I guess you can pretty much forget about what I just said. But I do see 2.1 mentioned, so... you could save some money this way. Lots of people don't realize that they can use their stereo for their PC.

2.1 is all I need. Anything more that that for me would be pointless because I only have hearing in one of my ears.

EDIT: I get the impression you didn't even read my post...:)

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that.

Well, if you have a stereo and it has RCA jacks on the back for "aux" (also labeled as "video" with some stereos), and your motherboard or sound card has an aux out jack... then like I said, you would have an awesome audio solution for under $5.

I read your first post, but some people like to talk about 2.1, but as time goes on starts asking about 5.1 -- only because 2.1 is what seems affordable, but something they really don't want. :)

I do have a stereo, but it's not exactly right beside my computer and I don't feel like having an RCA cord going across my room.

Tabris, those look OK, but they're kinda weak in the wattage department.
