I've seen prison cells, but never have I seen a maximum security prison. So maybe you're right. Maybe there is some relief to all this. Aren't prisons already a slaughter house? Don't they go after one another with homemade weapons?

No, he will likely be in super protected custody because real life isn't Oz. He will likely be in a tiny cell, all to himself, for 23 of the 24 hours of the day. The one hour he gets time outside will be in a little cage all to himself where nobody will get to him.
 
Not against death penalty for serial killers, mass murderers etc. No sympathy. Why waste hundreds of thousands of dollars each year housing and feeding this guy for 60+ years?

If you believe in the death penalty at all, then sure. But this one extremely rare case where we have indisputable proof of guilt is not enough to justify the penalty in general. It's a principles thing. "It's cheaper to execute him" isn't a strong moral argument.

I'm told that the long appeals process involved in death row usually ends up costing an assload of money anyway, so the financial motive may not even be valid.
