It would be nice to know exactly how many Nintendo DS units sold at lauch.

I never realized how small the Australian market is.

The US could account for 20,000 systems in one city.

When you look at Australia compared to the rest of the world you see why Nintendo ignores them.

To date, Nintendo has sold more than 1.4 billion video games worldwide, created such industry icons as Mario® and Donkey Kong and launched franchises like The Legend of Zelda® and Pokémon™. Nintendo manufactures and markets hardware and software for its popular home video game systems, including the Nintendo 64, NINTENDO GAMECUBE, Game Boy Advance and Game Boy - the World’s best-selling video game system which has sold over 120 million units.

Nintendo Australia has sold over 12 million video games, over 2.5 million Game Boys and over 1 million consoles to date. Nintendo Australia has also sold over 2 million Pokémon video games alone, since their launch on Game Boy in Australia over 3 years ago.

To my knowledge the PS2 has just sold over a million units here. So that's a 50 to 1 ratio for the DS in a couple of days. I was really quite surprised to see it flying off the shelves when it was released last week. Even more amazed to see SM64DS at the top of the charts alongside Wario Ware: Touched!

The real question for Nintendo is if Europe react in the same way.

Time will tell, I guess.
