Love this image from the episode.
The action scenes in this show are really well done and fun to watch. I'm glad I gave this one a shot since it has been so fun.
Well, he didn't say anything about fanservice when he asked, but was still told there was some fanservice when the show was recommended.... posts listed above.
People often use early votes as a guide for shows they should check out over the month. It's not uncommon for them to be updated quite a few times before voting closes.
Yea, I will actually be trying to do the same because I hate the idea that I didn't see 10 anime I enjoyed this year. For 2013 we had a strong push by certain members advocating for Yamato and it destroyed Kill la Kill and Attack on Titan so maybe we can pull off another miracle.

Impossible in a year with Big Order and Keijo, no way could someone realistically say Divine Gate and Trickster are the worst of the year. In fact, Trickster and Divine Gate were litrally best anime of their seasons.
I used to enjoy reading his blog. Now that has already changed anyways but Flip Flappers at number one? How the f. Knowing him it's likely not even mostly for animation prowess but also storytelling which just would not compute.
When I opened up ANN's best character list and there was that big stupid picture of Subaru staring at me I thought a screenshot would make a decent bad tweet......
Prince of Stride Alternative had one of the best EDs of the year, BE MY STEADY from GalStan and also the ED visuals was so good http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3m1vns

Based on its director Kiyotaka Oshiyama's Space Dandy episode, I'd initially expected Flip Flappers to be mostly a whimsical visual showcase, delighting in adventure without having much more to say. I'd have been happy enough with that, but the ultimate show ended up being so much more.
From its first joyous adventures onward, Flip Flappers consistently builds a sturdy and poignant story of identity, family, and human connection, with protagonist Cocona learning to express and love herself all along the way. All of that would already make Flip Flappers exactly my kind of show, but Flip Flappers’ true genius is how much of its storytelling and character writing goes completely unsaid. Nearly everything that is critical to Flip Flappers’ story is revealed not through dialogue, but through subtext and thoughtful visual storytelling.
By conveying even its narrative fundamentals through backgrounds, art design, and animation, Flip Flappers is able articulate its story gracefully in a way that makes its narrative not just consciously understood, but truly felt in an aesthetic sense. Flip Flappers shines as both character story and adventure serial, but it also stands as a confident, imaginative, and consistently beautiful example of visual storytelling done right.
Since I enjoyed the anime adaptation of Yoshiaki Sukeno's previous work, Binbogami ga!, checking out Twin Star Exorcists seemed like a no-brainer. Unfortunately, after an okay premiere, the shown quickly went downhill in both the visual and storytelling departments. The animation is inconsistent, the characters are one-note, and aside from their too-cute-to-seem-threatening designs, most of the villains are practically indistinguishable from one another. I could forgive some of the poor narrative choices if the show looked a little better, and I could forgive the lackluster visuals if the story was a little more inspired. However, as it stands, Twin Star Exorcists represents the worst of both worlds.
Don't know about ranks, but I'd certainly put the end song from Grimgar and the opening songs from Euphonium and Erased on my lists. Probably need to go and check all the openings and closings again.

He's pretty much the only ANN guy I can agree with much. Not that I agree with Flip Flappers, but then I bailed after 1 episode. I do really like Nick though. Probably started with his SNAFU reviews (or his monogatari work) and continued with Eupho.

Easily the best episode by far. There were so many good things about this episode that I'm not entirely sure where I should start. From
Teru's breakdown, Mob's breakdown,
everything was just stellar all around.
This is a really interesting subject I don't see a lot in anime. It really makes me stop and think just how many anime characters would be average people if you took away their gimmick that made them super special and gave them an adventure.
Mob's resolve to not define himself with his psychic powers is quite endearing and
seeing him explode in this episode after everything he said actually made my heart sink.
I didn't watch Sansha Sanyou, but it's a silly slice of life show right? That person must have gone into that show with weird expectations or something.

I think this defence of Flip Flappers would be enough evidence to get Nick incarcerated in a 1930's lunatic asylum. I don't think I've seen a more inaccurate piece of writing on ANN all year.
People seem to really like the song "History Maker" for some reason. The voting in the category seems to be more determined by the song than the attached visuals.

From what I can tell, a whole lot of people like the OP because of the song and not the visuals. I mean, it's pretty catchy even if the animation doesn't look stellar and just a slab of sketches of skating routines throwing paint on some canvas. I think anybody would just burst out "We were... born to make history~" like they were going outside to take on the day or something, haha
I wonder if this is more worth it on its premise than Qwaser's or would it be better to just watch Bikini Warrior alone and be over and done with it...
