LOS ANGELES, CALIF. -- Avril Lavingne is about to be a “Girlfriend” no longer — she’s engaged to fellow Canadian Chad Kroeger, singer for the band Nickelback.

A rep for Avril confirmed the news to Access Hollywood on Tuesday.

Chad reportedly asked Avril for her hand in marriage on August 8, giving his fellow Canadian a 14-carat diamond ring, People first reported.

The romance will come as a surprise to many. Avril was linked not long ago to Brody Jenner, but the two reportedly split earlier this year.

While teaming up with the “Rockstar” singer to pen a song for Avril’s next album, the two fell for each other.

“A romantic relationship blossomed as they spent time writing together,” a pal of Avril’s reportedly told the mag.

Avril and Chad were spotted looking cozy as they dined in Paris, France in May.

This will be Chad’s first marriage and Avril’s second.

She was previously married to another rock frontman — Deryck Whibley of Sum 41. Avril filed for divorce in 2009.
