YouTube on Wednesday announced a new tool that will allow advertisers to use Google's Gemini AI model to target ads to viewers when they are most engaged with a video.

The artificial intelligence feature, called "Peak Points," identifies times when videos receive elevated levels of viewer attention and packages ads to be placed after those moments. Peak Points has the potential to enable more impressions and a higher click-through rate on YouTube, a primary metric that determines how creators earn money on the video platform.

"Are you having fun with this video, well fuck you, here is an targeted ad to ruin your experience.

Some time ago i was about to open a topic asking if other people youtube also started ads in the most crucial moment of the video.

I swear these cunts have been doing this shit for years already, this is nothing new...

Karak Karak was talking on his podcast that YouTube was inserting 70 ads in a 3 hour video. Which seems insane.
Its insane. Though spots arent FOR SURE going to play an ad, something like a podcast where someone thinks...the system can lose its mind. Hopefully AI will learn and calm down, cause the older auto system is also just as bad.
I have to spend hours going through old videos where automatic WERE turned on(which defaulted to 3-4 per 4 hours. To this shit. Every single podcast the VERY instant I get done I have to leap in.
John from DF talked about it a year or so ago, and I randomly was like "I should check if...."
And found this. Of course no one cares if its us or youtube so you just get the shit beat out of you cause its so fucking daft.

The excuse is that this is just SPACES that could possibly have ads, and it won't show an ad every time. But come on. Fuck that.
For me, since we don't do sponsored stuff really, a couple ads is the only way I make anything from content. Which I am fine if someone wants to skip MY entries. But this is actively forcing people away.

The psychology being used to develop and justify that is insane. They are basically the guy form Ready Player One that talks about how they can cover 70% of the screen with ads before users find it intolerable. I personally hate watching terrestrial TV anymore because I cannot skip ads. I only watch live sporting events on regular TV.

Thanks for the picture. I appreciate you talking about this madness.

I swear that they do this in videos with time stamps when I click on the part I want an ad pops up.
This COULD be the AI. But so far I haven't seen that. That seems to be almost 100% creator caused. Most creators seem dead set on "end with a sentence that sounds enticing" ad, "timestamp" ad

Thank god for Raspberry Pi+Adblocker DNS server when outside and my router hardware adblock when inside local net. 😎

Hardware adblocking FTW. 🙏🏻🫠

I think the ironic thing is that the system is most likely looking at when people skip to a different part in the video for the "most watched" section, but often the "most watched" section is actually just the part where the in-video sponsored ad is ending.

As if Youtube isn't polluted enough already with AI generated crap even down to their useless support auto responses

Keep going Google whatever drives up engagement for you I guess

I use adblockers on PC but when Im at home I use my ps5 with our living room tv, ads have gotten so bad over the past 5 years or so, but luckily there was an easy way to skip ads on ps5 and go back to the video. It was about 4 button presses but if you had the controller in your hand, it was an easy process and made it much more tolerable. Ive been able to do this for years now...

They recently removed that ability and now I can't sit through videos anymore. The video starts with a 20-30 second ad and then the video starts. Usually with a sponsered blurb, so fastworward 30 seconds or so, bang, right into another 10-20 second ad... i back out and no longer watch the video...

The only videos I will sit through the ads for are maybe a few of my subs but yeah, pretty much weining me off youtube, which I guess is a good thing. I dont watch any of the ads, an ad has never made me want a product. If anything, it makes me despise the product or service.

No chance I will ever pay for premium.

With proper AI they can seamlessly stick the targeted ad INTO the video.

"Watch me pour ice water all over the scantily clad women, slight pause, wow that's hard work after this I'm gonna head down to 'local pub 2 miles from users house' and get a drink, slight pause, and wow watch them squeal from all that ice water!"

I subscribed to Google Music over a decade ago at the temporary price of $8/mo, and Google explicitly said that anyone who bought in at that time would have that price locked in for eternity.

Since then, YouTube Premium has been added to the service, and true to their word, it's still $8/mo.

I'm not at all suggesting people pay for YouTube premium, cause I'm sure it's stupidly expensive at this point, but I am DAMN glad I don't have to deal with any ads. Best subscription I think I've ever gotten.

Thinking about it, I have never been convinced to purchase anything that was featured in a YouTube advert. If anything it put me off the product.

Imagine that.

Yet, insane radical videos from insane radical people manage to stay up unharmed. (well as long as you are the correct insane radicals :messenger_winking:)
