Awesome Games Done Quick 2016: January 3rd - 10th.

This reminds me of how you could glitch up and down through the doors in the original Metroid. Was that ever useful in any way for speed runs in that game?

Not sure what these scrolling glitches are that you mention btw, just made me think of the above when I read it.

The scrolling in metroid is used in any% I think, to either get ice early or to save some room traveling.

In blaster master they can do something weird on foot to move the collision layers and doorways, then use this to pass into locked away areas.

What the hell does this game have to do with Batman? Like... okay, you play as Batman. And the final boss is the Joker. But literally nothing else in the game bears any resemblance to anything in Batman '89, or really anything else Batman related. And why can the Joker summon lightning? This definitely looks like a game that was developed as something else and had Batman slapped on late in development.

Cute.

I guess. The only licensed NES games I had as a kid were TMNT and Chip & Dale, and TMNT actually had some resemblance to the cartoon and Capcom's Disney games were great.
most of the enemies in TMNT after the first stage weren't in the cartoon, only the bosses. I don't blame these games, batman and TMNT don't have much for enemies in their shows besides the bosses and regular goons.

Several of Batman's bosses and enemies are actually minor villains from comics (not from the movie that the game is ostensibly based on, though...) Given Journey to Silius (another NES Sunsoft game, a Terminator game with the license sawed off), it seems fairly likely that Batman had the license grafted on somewhat awkwardly.

Battletoads next!

They should play the pause music until Battletoads starts.

One of the best parts of these events is watching childhood favorites be played like you've never seen before.

Battletoads next!
Yup, and this run actually reminded me that I did get to the very end, I just never beat it. Was so, so hard back in the day. Nice to see an actual end to that game.

As to the upcoming Battletoads, just no. I never got far into that game and it was so painful to try. Another fun one to watch I'm sure.

Never actually played either of these myself but I have seen runs of games where, like you said, I got near the end but could never finish them. I sometimes think about going back to some and seeing if I could do it as good as these people.

Again on Battletoads, I couldn't do it. Any of it.

I played Battletoads on the Rare Replay using the rewind option like 10 times per level, these games were savage
