Awesome Games Done Quick 2016: January 3rd - 10th.

Nice to see Devs supporting this, makes me wonder how big it could become, they already have partners running pinball and other activities and official giveaways, could become a much larger event if they wanted it.

Now that i think about it more devs should do that, for example it would have been cool to see a Nintendo donation on the Mario block yesterday.

Indie devs are great at it, not only contributing but actively helping the speedrunners, talking to them, making changes and even in prior GDQ's talking on stream while the person is playing.

I'll bet a ham sandwich that no one from Nintendo is even aware that this shit exists.

Or that speedrunning is a thing.

Nintendo Japan. Nintendo of America probably does, though I also think they'd get in trouble if anyone from NoA donated and mentioned they worked for Nintendo.

It would be really cool if it got big like that, but people would complain even MORE about AGDQ "selling out" than they already do...

Sadly, this is probably true but a Nintendo Treehouse member is at AGDQ this year: Ethan Stockton. And he's been tweeting about it on his twitter throughout the week.

Mirror's Edge run is basically this.

nobody worth listening to complains about GDQ selling out

While true, the drama surrounding it bleeds into almost every stream I watch (even chill, laid-back ones aren't exempt) for like the month leading up to and after the event. People can't stand watching something they like go "mainstream"

Ooo that's neat.

And yeah, while AGDQ might have some legitimate issues in their management and treatment of certain members of the community in the face of it's increasing popularity and sponsors/audience/etc. 99% of the people bringing it up are fucking scumbags so who fucking cares what they think.

Like for real, never visit r/speedrun except for VODs.

Next year we won't see this same runner again at AGDQ 2017 running Catalyst
because he got a job at DICE working on Mirror's Edge 3

While growth is nice of course and everyone wants to get the most money they can, the even is already a success and worthwhile.

Yeah if there's one thing I'll say it's that this event has had the best commentary and runs for any games done quick event.
It's been so consistantly good with some really high points like the SMM segment yesterday.

As impressive as this is...

I should go to AGDQ with a really easy game and just get a hype guy to go "Oh my god, this bit is so hard... omg Auctopus did it, that's amazing!"

I'd get so many applause.

Haha make sure it's some really obscure game that no one runs. "By the way did you know that I am the WR holder B)"

It would be hilarious if it's something like a glitchless "walking simulator" run (Like a everybody's gone to the rapture glitchless lol)

HYPE, He did it! He figured out how to run!

Kind of like when they brought in Alex Navarro to "run" Big Rigs.

yall ready for some stepmania?

About to get dizzy as fuck up in here

that's twitch. think of it as high speed youtube comments.

None of it is valid, all of it is kids/child-like adults not understanding a damn thing about how things work in the real world--and a lot of it originates on the 4chan speed run thread (i.e. slow-speed twitch comments.) I don't doubt there's drama and growing pains within the organization and even big mistakes made, but adults work through these things and make improvements. And as a bystander, it's basically none of my business. Teens/idiots think you need to totally throw out everything and try to rebuild everything in a "pure" way or that there's a grand conspiracy out to pull the wool over everyone's eyes. They also love criticizing from the tender confines of the basement where they have to deal with zero distractions and get to look at problems in a vacuum.

DICE devs watching and be like "shit we gotta delay the game"
