awesome platformers that need sequels but will never get them

Seriously, I liked this game.

not quite "awesome" but a beautiful and solid game which thankfully rejected RARE's usual collectathon craziness, a sequel could be awesome if they made one
I finished it this week, that's no platformer.

back on topic:
CROC

Super Mario Sunshine.

Started replaying recently and it's easily my favorite 3D Mario. It's just too much fun to dick around the hub world and I always get sidetracked surveying the beautiful environments. Also has the two best 3D Mario levels- Bianco Hills and Ricco Harbor.

GAF is on fire with the recommendations today. Ristar, Mischief Makers, Rocket Knight Adventures, Goemon and Shantae all have been mentioned already. :D

With that all said, we need more Jet Set Radio, Banjo-Kazooie, and Donkey Kong (especially after the phenomenal Jungle Beat).

Rocket Knight Adventures is my #1 pick, also Kid Icarus is technically a platformer so that is #2...

To those that have mentioned Dynamite Headdy, consider yourselves my bed-fellows. I tip my cap to you. You have done well.

Its like the original boxart was already teasing it's own 3d sequel.

I am suddenly reminded how there are barely any more platformers nowadays, other than the reliable series (aka Mario, Ratchet). I wish Microsoft would spend some money making their very own definitive platformer. I know that they've tried this a few times--but try again. :( Rare....come on....

This is the second time in two days I've seen someone mention Monty on the Run.

Does that mean it's time for a Monty Mole revival? I think it does!

It was called Mischief Makers ;o

I do love that box art though... those early Genny Treasure games were so bizarre aesthetically, McDonald's Adventure Land included.

+1 Rocket Knight Adventures!

And Holy fuck, THIS! Now that dual analog sticks are standard, the controls would be seamless and provide tons of potential. Think of the possibilities!

Clockwork Knight and YES oh please Jet Force Gemini and Blast Corps(although REd FAction Guerrilla seems like the spiritual successor)

I agree, though. Never played Rocket Knight Adventures, but Sparkster is holyfuckawesome.

RKA blows both Sparksters out of the water. It's not even a contest.

Pulseman already mentioned. Damn looks like I've got nothing to add.

How the fuck has Maximo not been mentioned yet?

It had a sequel, and it was awesome.

edit: The studio behind it was broken up or fired into the Sun or something. No more Maximo.

Gex in the OP had multiple sequels, I don't think this about "standalone platformers that never got a sequel"

I don't even really acknowledge the two Sparksters. RKA is just that good.

You should all be ashamed of yourselves for forgetting Doki Doki Ripoff. It was a damn fun platformer and you know it...

I WANT A SEQUEL DAMMIT!

What completely gets me is that even if RKA got a sequel it wouldn't be RKA 2. It'd turn out to be Sparkster 2 or some shit like that. It was bad enough that Sparkster was re-designed to look like some xtreme idiot with hair that makes it look like his head is on fire but the gameplay just totally misses the point in both sequels. The controls have been changed around, the levels are long as hell and filled with repetition, and those games just focus far too much on the rocket pack.

The thing is Sparkster is supposed to be a Possum with a rocket-pack, not a rocket-pack wearing Possum. Sure RKA has a few instances where the pack is required but for the most part using it properly is up to the player. In fact the few instances where the pack is required serve more as tutorials than anything else as they give an idea of what the pack can be used for and how it works, then giving the player free reign to do as they please.

It's like how the later Sonic games forced Sonic into these levels where he needs speed to survive. It's no longer an advantage it's just a necessity. That's not interesting game design at all. It's hardly a wonder why the only people that talk about the sequels are the ones who never played the original.

I want a Klonoa on PS3 and also a sequel to I-Ninja. Other than that, I wouldn't mind a new Haven: Call of the King.
