This was recorded at WZRD in Chicago. Does that station still exist? The interviewer is kind of um, annoying so ignore him. Anyway this is SP live circa 1988, they sound great. Billy's voice isn't really that whiny at all. It's actually deep. The guitars are very tripped out and surreal.

SP - Venus in Furs (1988)

This is from the 5CD Mashed Potatoes bootleg.

If it kept them, it would still be the original. Look at Manson's cover of Your Own Personal Jesus, sounds just like the original. The best covers rework the song but still sound good.

How do you find this stuff, Diablos??
Definitely more melodic and less searing than the original, but its still a bit eerie. It's alright, sounds like the dream-pop SP of the Siamese era.

Its the Mashed Potatoes bootleg... www.westernavenue.net has it with gigs of other SP boots and videos :D

Eh, it doesn't sound like Siamese IMO... sounds more like the pre-gish, 80's dreampop/prog version of the pumpkins covering VU.

Well, it reminded me of 'Soma'. And by the way do you still believe there is not a hint of My Bloody Valentine in Siamese Dream?

Not bad. I enjoy hearing other musicians doing their Lou Reed impressions.

Do you happen to have access to the SP Moonage Daydream cover? I've wanted to hear that for a while.

Never even knew they did it. Must be rare as all hell.

Substance: In perhaps a production approach, yes. But it still doesn't sound like a mirror of Loveless or something.

MBV never wowed me with what everyone else praises them for. I think more of that praise should go to Sonic Youth. And IMO, especially live, it sounds like SP was influenced by a lot of Sonic Youth noise rock. Like all the stuff you hear in live versions of Silverfuck. Very Sonic Youth-ish. Except more intense.
