A close friend told me her friend went AWOL and is now talking to her via phone. Now, when you go AWOL, you're considered a fugitive.

He hasn't told her where he is, nor does she want to know--can she still get in trouble with the law for talking to him?

I ask this mainly because there are quite a few MIL-gaffers

Aside from the fact that she talked to the person what can she do. If they asked her all she could say is yes she talked to person x, no I don't know where person x is, and yes I would have advised person x to return to base.

Just tell her to be honest..Damn I would never go AWOL, Iam in the Air-force and know people who have, and the punishment is not worth it..just take leave.

Well most jobs in the Air-Force you dont have to worry about "being shot up" It really pisses me off that so many people look down upon our millitary and America, If you dont Like it here leave. You will not be missed.

It's not against the law to talk to a criminal or a supected one at that so no she has nothing to worry about, unless she aids him, by sending money or passing on to the authorities false information so as to stall or thwart their aprehension of him.

yea its way easier than "if you dont like it try to change it for the better."

and anyways if you dont believe in something would you be willing to give your life for it?


someone signs up a few years ago do you think its fair for them to still have to fight if they dont believe in their leaders orders? i see nothing wrong with going AWOL if thats the only choice presented.

If I didn't believe that you just may represent the average person in the armed forces, I wouldn't have lost respect for the group on a whole.

Well they did sign a contract to join the millitary noone forced them, unlike some places it is mandatory for you to join the millitary at a certain age.
