What is this crap? A half-pint gender bender Wolverine missing her middle claw?

No wonder Marvel is suing everybody under the sun - they're creatively bankrupt.

This post and the one just before it has been brought to you by BGPAM - Black GAF Posters Against Marvel.

So, it's some kind of Wolverine tie in? but a girl.. and a kid?

I don't follow Marvel enough to recognize the particular story arc or anything like that but child assassins are always sort of cool, but she loses points because she wasn't in ninja gear.. or a proper school girl's uniform.

All I got for the Vernal Equinox was this stupid tag
Never saw the character in X-Men Evolution, but the backstory behind X-23 in the Marvel continuity is that she's a clone of Wolverine; after Logan went beserk and left the facility during the Weapon X program, research continued as they tried to grow clones of him, and a female scientist brought in to work on the project found that making the clone female instead male would speed up the process by 10 years for some reason.

This at least explains why she has a healing factor and berserker rage.

It's hard to believe it took this long for Marvel to create a female Wolverine. But look at this way: They now have two Wolverines they split between the X-books. Then Logan won't be in every single comic they make...

...right? RIGHT? :lol

My god!! What has Marvel come to?! Is this the best material they can come up with . Now I defiantely don't regret my decision of giving up comic reading/collecting 10 years ago.

Marvel, make Quesada have an untimely "accident", and then get on your hands and knees and BEG Stan Lee to come back and stap some fucking sense into you.

IIRC Dr. Kinney suggested a female clone because the Y chromosome on their file sample of Wolvie's DNA was too damaged to repair or replace. By dropping the Y and making the clone XX, they were finally successful in the cloning process. Right?

And at this point in the story I don't believe X-23's entire skeletal structure has undergone the adamantium bonding process yet - just her claws. Something about them maturing faster than the rest of her body; they were there at birth, after all. The Weapon X goons bombarded her with a lethal dose of radiation to trigger her X-Gene mutation before puberty, to accelerate her healing factor's development.

And you guys suck: this is the most interesting thing to happen to Wolverine since Origin.

She has toe claws...

And fire whoever colored that tripe. The guy's eyes are fleshtones :/ The highlights make no sense, either.

<sigh> Poor Spike... I lament his lost Sanity.... I personally thought Origin was GARBAGE.... add X-23 to that pile.

First 1/2 of Origin = Good. Second 1/2 of Origin = Bleh. In terms of quality, Origin was a mixed bag at best. But that’s irrelevant; my point was that Origin actually brought something new and interesting to the table for Wolverine, and that’s a rare thing these days.

As a character, Wolverine has a lot of the same problems that Superman does. He falls prey to the “status quo” mentality. He gets passed over for meaningful character development, in favor of other X-Men that aren’t as (over)exposed. He’s treated like a caricature in his guest appearances, for comedic effect and often at his own expense. Even in his own solo series, he’s not immune to these problems; this Hydra/S.H.I.E.L.D. thing might be going somewhere, but it’s too early to tell at this point. I mean, let’s face it: since Origin, there really haven’t been any significant happenings in Wolverine’s story. And before that, what? The adamantium loss?

So when something like X23 comes along, that stands a chance at adding something new and interesting to the weathered, tangled tapestry that is Wolverine’s story, I’m all for it. At the very least, X23 could really end up doing something good for Wolverine who, as a character, really doesn’t have all that much going for himself right now. And who knows, maybe she’ll become her own established character, if handled properly.

(Unfortunately, I’m not getting that Claremont is up to the task.)

Why couldn't they do a Wolf and Cub story with Wolvie and X23? Why? That would've been great. Character development all around. Jesus.

Wasnt she a crack whore prostitute in NYX? Damn those first NYX issues were good.....

You're ten years late. Me and Apharmd got when the getting was good, (although I was around long enough for "Iron Boy"). *shudder*wretch*shot of bourbon*

The current story isn't meant to go anywhere... it's just a good old fashion Wolverine vs. everybody story. Sometimes it's a good thing to pull back from always trying to make each storyline deep and meaningful.

Bleh, her gestation was one of the most convulted ever... hey we created this character for the cartoon... hey now let's put her in the comics... but it's not really the cartoon character so now we've got to come up with a origin, etc....

Do we need another character with claws in the Marvel Universe?

BTW Superman has been pretty good lately.

Yeah, that makes sense… at least, it would, if any of the recent Wolverine storylines had even tried to be “deep and meaningful”! He’s been flat for years! The “Horseman of Apocalypse” angle went nowhere, the repercussions from Origin were mild at best, Claremont, Austen, and Whedon have kept him strictly in supporting roles, and Morrison and Casey only briefly toyed with the Logan/Jean/Scott triangle before doing the exact same thing. And Rucka’s relaunch of the solo series (and Tieri’s pre-relaunch run, to some extent) just put Logan into the familiar “wandering samurai Samaritan” role and left him there. Wolverine hasn’t seen “deep and meaningful” in a long time, and X23’s emergence could change that.

Weak. What’s so convoluted about her transition from screen to page? Craig Kyle created her specifically for Evolution, liked the character too much to see her die with the cartoon, pitched the concept to Joe Q., Joe liked it and green-lit her transition, but because of continuity differences between the show and the comic changes are being made to her backstory. Same basic thing happened with Harley Quinn.

Now, you wanna talk “bleh”? That’s Marvel’s handling of X23 since her introduction, and that boils down to two things: the chronic lateness of NYX (now wrapping up in June/July), and Chris Claremont. It still hasn’t been explained how she went from being a goth-punk prostitute on the streets of New York (which is where this origin series will probably leave her), to a street vigilante wearing one of Logan’s old costumes, to living as a student at the Xavier Institute.

But, you’re probably right: we really don’t need another character with claws. While we’re at it, we really don’t need another character with spider powers, do we? Do we need another gamma-irradiated powerhouse? Another mutant telepath? Another Kryptonian exile? Does Batman really need all those sidekicks? What about all those bracelet-wearing Amazons wandering around? Surely we don’t need all those…

...

And damn Marvel for letting that f*cking "Spider-Clone Saga" see the printed page.

In Claremont's defense, he revealed in an interview that the character was forced on him with pretty much no characterization guideline available. So he made it up as he went along. Seems fair enough to me.

The reason she's still around is that Alan Davis evidently likes drawing her and Claremont's warming to her too. Fwiw she was wearing the Fang costume when the X-Men encountered her because it took place at some nightclub where the dress code was superpeople costuming.... I guess she likes it or something so she's kept it. She's also at the institute now because she's under XSE house arrest.
