Can't wait to buy this tomorrow, I've played it a couple of times on the demo PS4 at Best Buy and loved it.... Has a ton of nostalgia for a 38 year old gamer like myself...

The design of the MC is pretty bland I agree. Nowhere near something as awesome as Super Metroid's Samus for example. But yeah, it's no big deal as long as it's fun.

There are secret areas hidden off the map (secret worlds) that you can get into which have a random layout and are in different locations with each playthrough. Speedrun Mode has the same layout for secret areas just to keep it consistent for speed running.

In the secret worlds you'll often find 1-2 power ups. Not sure how random the specific power ups are.

Not really a huge spoiler, but might be something people want to discover on their own.
